ComGuards Level II
« on: 08 May 2024, 13:42:23 »
I finally finished my ComGuards Level II, which was a relief after painting all that white and the challenges that came with it.

Great work!  The black lines really help the white pop!  Can you explain your process?

Lol, thanks for the kind words, MarauderD, but to be honest, I had so many struggles with patchy primer and variable quality black ink painting this batch, I had to change paints and approach constantly to fix them-it was a real struggle!

However, I finally found some primer and paint that worked consistently (whew!) so here's the plan that finally works for me:

1. Prime with Vajjejo Panzer Grey (excellent primer)
2.Drybrush with GW Corax White, brushing lightly to get the flat armor panels and surfaces as light grey but leaving the panel lines Panzer Grey.
3. Use a black ink of your choice to pin wash panel lines and grooves black.
4. Last, paint armor and surfaces with thin coats of Vallejo Model Color Ivory. I found multiple thin, watered-down coats gave a finished smoother color.

The main thing I can't emphasize enough is use a good quality primer! I got a bad can of Army Painter White Primer I tried first, and it went goopy and patchy halfway through the force. I was able to fix it, but it was a real struggle. Priming with the Panzer Grey and base coating with Corax White and finishing with Vallejo Ivory got the same results and was much easier.
