Unit/Scheme of the Month: Lyran Commonwealth/Alliance
« on: 05 April 2019, 19:09:57 »
Welcome to April everyone! :)  Hope the month is off to a good start for ya.  Big thank yous for everyone who posted last month.  We got to see some excellent paint jobs there.

This month we jump back to the Inner Sphere and say "guten morgen" to the Lyran Commonwealth/Alliance.  The Lyrans have always seemed to have one answer to all their military problems: bring a bigger Mech.  With the Draconis Combine on one side, and the Free Worlds League on the other, they have had plenty of occasion to throw their weight around (bad pun intended).  So roll out your Lyran Guards, Skye Rangers, or Tamar Cavaliers.  Let's see them all! 8)

For myself, a couple of Lyran Royal Guard mechs.  A Highlander and a Fafnir.  The remainder of their company is in progress.

Next month we go back to some camo schemes with a trio of choices: night, mountain, and exotic.  June will bring us back around to Clan territory: Clans Coyote, Fire Mandrill, and Snow Raven.

Thanks for reading, thanks to those who post, and may you all have an excellent month!

Now, show them how House Steiner deals with things! :D

I've got some odds and ends here.

2nd Republican Guards (my conjectural take on field-expedient TFRA camo). They end up in the AFFC and later the LAAF soon enough.

And something more traditional...

4th Lyran Regulars. My main Steiner Op-For.

I need to do some better pictures for my lyran units. But to start with some, i give you a Lyran Guard Marauder, a generic tank lance in city camo and with a Tharkad warship and a Union dropships some naval assets too.

Lyrans ... my faction.  :)
So there is quite a number of them available. Let us start with the more uncommon units.

1. Tikonov Republic Guard
These guys were more of a capellan unit, but when Tikonov came under FedCom control, they decided to be lyran, not FedSuns.
Several of these guys are older paint jobs and i haven't done much more than these four. The Cataphract has a magnetised torso and the torso gap of the Catapult has been filled, but no other changes.

17. Skye Rangers

Those traitors ...  :P
Maybe one reason why this unit only has three mechs painted.

1. Royal Guard

The Hatchetman's white base was intentionally as this is a playable piece of a winter diorama.
The Atlas II torso is twistable.

And now some of my bigger units.

A full company of 11. Lyran Regulars.
No lance pictures so far. More pictures to take, so just three more examples.
The Griffin is from the Wolf&Blake lance pack with magnetised weapons as option.

14. Donegal Guards

The Stiletto has been modded to the B-configuration.
The Gauntlet is an older fantech mech. Almost forgotten, but mine is a nice addition to the company.

The 23rd Arcturan Guards has been my go to Commonwealth unit since the early 90's. Sporting just a company, they are the second most painted unit since my return to the hobby.

These four were the ones that got me back into the hobby... When I opened up my case after 15 years I noticed the white had turned amber (I used polyurethane to seal them) and the epoxy I used on the base was "leaking"... When I striped them (some of the only mechs I ever have) I decided I didn't want three of the same again, and that started me down the modding road.

The 23rd AG was the remnants of a campaign I once ran, with the story that the four mechs above were left behind (intentionally), and their lance commander was trying to first survive and second find out who betrayed them. When I first painted the company Command Lance below, it was all part of the mystery... I still remember the who and why, but I lost my taste to tell the story...

Other mechs include this SDR-5V Spider with blue armor bond (remember the fluff from TRO3025?).

My first attempt at modifying the old F-Atlas

A CN9-AL Centurion

And a BattleDroid Falcon I originally painted for Haku, but bought back from him.

There are two others I've painted, and represent 2 of the 5 mechs that are no longer in my collection.

A AWS-9Q Awesome I did for a charity auction to help a friend.

And a TDR-5SS Thunderbolt I gave to another friend (Grud).

Finally, my one non-Arcturan Guards Commonwealth mini is still partly white... A 3rd Lyran Guards STK-3H Stalker.

Seconding that - good to see you back, Cazaril!

my more humble contributions:

A short platoon of Fenris battle armour accompanying combat engineers, from the 8th Donegal Guards.

Command lance, 14th Lyran Guards

Battle armour company, Tamar Cavaliers (with special guest)

Striker company, 5th Alliance Guards (it's not all wall of steel in the LAAF!)

And that's it for the moment!

After 30 plus years I finally broke down and painted some Steiners. Generic Donegal Guards.
