I have not managed to find a link from the forums back to www.classicbattletech.com main page.
This is slightly annoying if I want to go and check something there, so could you add a link, please?

Just scanned the sub form because I was going to start a post for the same thing. I was going to suggest the BATTLETECH in top left above your avatar.

Nth'd.  It's not good to not have a link-back.

Aw hell, that's going to screw with me for weeks... by habit, I click that to get to the main forum page!  #P

Me too, actually. But it made the most sense, given that the forum index page already has a link in the breadcrumb right below the linkbar.

Thanks!

Though I have to ask: Why not use the "BATTLETECH" link in the very top left corner? The "Home" link is part of the forum and I would instinctively expect it to go to the main forum page (like it did previously), whereas I'd expect "BattleTech" to link to the CGL homepage...

Because that's part of the breadcrumb trail that shows you where you are within the forums. It would make no sense to link it to the home page because then the trail would go:

home page > forum section > board > topic

rather than

forum index > forum section > board > topic

I think he's talking about the all-caps bold text at the very top left, not the breadcrumbs above and below the main part of the forum.

Yeah, actually that's what I thought would make the most sense as well.

Agreed that the BATTLETECH in the top left makes the most sense for a link back to the main page. I don't mind the Home button going also but I keep clicking on that very top BATTLETECH out of habit.

Wholeheartedly agree with the previous few folks, who are wise beyond their years and deserve cookies.

I see what you're saying. I'll look into it.

Later, at stately Rooster Manor...

Hmm, nope, not going to happen. Changing that big BATTLETECH up in the top-left corner would involve changing the code for each theme that's available on the forums. Right now that's just two but once Deathshadow creates more themes then we'd have to do that to all of them. Changing it in the linkbar means just adding a few lines to a single settings file to make the change available in every theme no matter how many there may end up being. Sorry.

(Now, if DS wants to make the changes in each theme, he's the main maintenance dude and more power to him. I'm not going to do it, though.)

To throw you guys a bone, however, I've added back in the code for spoiler tags!

To recap how it works, this code:
[spoiler]...this is some text you want to hide...

...it can span multiple paragraphs[/spoiler]

and here's how you do it to hide [spoil]inline[/spoil] spoilers

Produces this result:
...this is some text you want to hide...

...it can span multiple paragraphs

and here's how you do it to hide [spoil]inline[/spoil] spoilers

And, as before, click the black bars to reveal the secret text.

I still don't understand what you're asking for.

Or were you just wondering how I had unparsed BBCode in my post? Yeah, that's done with the [nobbc] ... [/nobbc] tags.

Yes.  It's more readable than the standard code blocks.

That is weird, as the links to the right of it refer to the forums, while the Home refers to the main site.  To me, if the links have nearly identical style, font, location, etc, their destination should be related.

The BATTLETECH in the upper left corner is separate from the others, is above the forum, and has a different style.  That to me says it heads somewhere different than the forums.

Since that can't be changed, would adding a second line (that is easier to change via the code) that links directly to the main site be easier?  Its format would be different than the forum links, so people could recognize that something else happens.  Or just use an image that we would recognize, instead of text.  But that is Deathshadow's area, so I'll wait.

That's also how the old forums worked, if I remember correctly.  Personally, I'm happy just having the link.
