Spontaneous logoffs?
« on: 28 January 2011, 20:18:32 »
I'm seeing a problem where the forum will log me off at random intervals, especially annoying when it will log me off when trying to make a post. Has this been happening to anyone else?

Are you sure you aren't timing out your login session?

Every time I log in, I tell it to keep me on forever. And I've already had to re-login before making this post.

The only issues I've had were a few times where it seemed like the site had gone back down...I waited a few minutes, and tried again, and it would eventually come back...

Not sure if you did anything to change it, but logoffs haven't been a problem anymore for me for a while.

Nor for me lately.  I had one and that's it.

EDIT: Or a session timing out in the middle of a post, but not logging me out.  That was weird.

I am having a problem where it is logging me off constantly. Just started tonight.
Firefox 3.6.13, Windows 7.

While typing this, it told me my session "timed out", yet I am telling it to connect me "forever"

Interestingly, my lap top, which is running the same stuff, is NOT having that problem...

I had that happen to me over the weekend. XP with Chrome 8.0.552.237. After a while it got better.

Silly question, but are you guys using the forum archive? Logging in there CAN cause a logout here. (even with the cookie name for each being different)

You might also try flushing cookies, you might have some old cookies screwing with the new forum.

Interesting though with my high usage and four separate machines I've yet to observe this 'issue'... and if I can't recreate it, I can't fix it.

I just double checked on the back end and found a few new setting options that weren't there in previous versions of SMF, and one value that was different from what I set up on the old forums.

I've increased the timeout limit, enabled "local storage", and tweaked a few other things. Hopefully this will prevent those oddball logoff issues.

I was checking in on the archives a few times back then, yes. That might have been it on my end.

Beginning to happen to me too.  I haven't been using the archives since before the crash.  Something is happening on the server to log people out.

I was getting this too,  just started today.  I think it was a conflict between 2 browsers. I was logged in in Firefox, but in IE8 I was not logged in (wasn't even at CBT.com at all).  It was getting pretty bad,  I'd log in, go to a thread, hit reply and it'd complain that my session had expired or that I wasn't authorized to view the sub-forum I was in.

So far, shutting down both browsers has eliminated the log offs.  As an experiment, I've made sure to log into the CBT forums in IE8 too.

strange doings are afoot.

Been happening a few times each day for the past 3 days here, too.
Mordin Solus: We need a plan to stop them.
John Shepard: We fight or we die. That's the plan.
Ashley Williams: Wow. That's the plan? Is it just me, or did Shepard have better plans before he died?
Urdnot Wrex: Silence! This is the best plan anyone, anywhere has ever had!
Garrus Vakarian: Yes! I AM SO THERE I AM THERE ALREADY!

I'm having it happen too.
