Tangential question, but am I the only one who feels a bit lactose intolerant at cranking the piloting skills of de facto pillbox vehicles?

Every once in a while is OK but if it becomes a habit I stop showing up for games.

/cough,  BV
I can get 2 LRM Carrier-3058's at 4/7 for the cost of that one Partisan and have more ammo, C3, & Artemis IV for when its not indirect fire.

The LRM carrier certainly has its flaws but in is also a LOT cheaper than said Partisan, Ontos, or Sturmfuer while throwing out the same or more LRMs than each of them.

I still prefer those units to a LRM Carrier (also, don't forget the Brutus LRM variant) except maybe the Sturmfuer.  19 tons of armor is just way over the top.  Bleh.

Plus you know that 1 Partisan with a 2 gunner will stand a pretty good chance against 2 LRM Carriers with 4 gunners more often than not.

As an afterthought, shouldn't that question rather be "as rarely as vehicles actually need to make Driving skill rolls, why does anybody bother with better drivers?" Stock TW rules give players little reason to ever improve their (non-hover) ground vehicle crews' Driving skill except for urban combat specialists; out in the open country, with no pavement to skid on or buildings to try to take shortcuts through, a Driving 7 crew is just about as good as a Driving 5 or even Driving 0 one, so I'm arguably not getting my BV's worth out of those skill boosts in the first place.

Keep in mind that this assumes stock TW rules only. I'm quite aware that TacOps provides some new challenges and opportunities to apply a tank crew's Driving skill to -- provided, of course, that the relevant sections actually get used in play... :)

In a duel between each other using Direct Fire,  probably.
But when we are talking using Indirect/Tag+SG to support OTHER units.
Nah, I'll take 6LRM20's v/s 4LRM15's.
But again, I'm not using my LRM boat as a MBT, its hidden behind a hill where it likely won't get shot.

Aye, this is the problem as I see it.
TW increased Piloting BV by 300%,  from 5% to 15% per point.
YET, at the same time made Piloting nearly useless for a Tracked-Wheeled vehicle.

One fun thing I really want to try out is a lance comprised of 2 Heavy LRM Carriers, 1 Heavy MML Carrier and a Tufana.

The Heavy MML Carrier can't crank out as many LRMs as the two Heavy LRM Carriers, but your opponent is in for a rude surprise if they try to run over the hill to get to close for your LRMs. The Tufana is a nice new toy that provides a nice and fast turreted TAG+Narc (or iNarc) combo.

That sounds like it could be fun.  For you, not for the OPFOR.   }:)
