Decided I'm going to push a pre-alpha version onto a server to seek input. Still no word one way or another from MS, just trying to keep pushing this forward.

I'll share a link here once it's up. Look for it over the next few weeks.

MS is a little busy trying to buy Activision/Blizzard for $70B.  Good luck getting an answer any time soon...  :-\

It’s been 3 months since last contact. Been working on it for 19 months now. Patient is a virtue. Added bonus is it’s the same division doing this and they did show interest in my master plan.

If they've actually shown interest, persistence is the ultimate virtue!

I'm waiting on DNS to propagate and a few other things before I give out the URL to the pre-alpha site.

I present to you... a pre-alpha AToW Character Sheet: https://atow.battletech.dev/characters/adc40006-45f4-44f8-b0be-5c9b198831cd

Please put it through its paces, take note of the "Planned Features," and use the email link on the main page (or comment here) for any issues and suggestions.

First thing to note is it seems I can't sign up to make a character of my own.

If it gives you an error, let me know.

I'll make it more clear in the next code push.

Edit: Someone just shared the error that is occurring. Working on that now.

Fix for "duplicate player name" is going through the pipeline now and should be live within an hour along with links on the top of the site.

edit: fix is live. Please report any other issues.

It works MUCH better in Edge than IE.  I should have time to try making a character this weekend.

Edge won't log into the forum for me right now for some reason, so I'm on IE until the next patch, I guess...

And now I can't log in via Edge on your site either.  I have NO idea what's causing this...

No errors reported in Sentry. Try clearing cache. But a point of note, if MS doesn't support it, I won't either. I will try Edge via Win 11 to see if I can duplicate it thought later today.

When I enter my e-mail and password, it just returns me to the log in page (it's the same behavior I'm seeing with the forum).  I hope that helps!

Alright. That leads me into the right direction as the flash messages aren't appearing when they should be. Could actually be account not confirmed.

Just logged into the server and checked... yup. Wasn't confirmed. I manually confirmed the account so you should be good now. I'll work this weekend to finish updating all the auth related pages to show the correct error messages.

I'm in, thanks!

One thing I don't see: a total of XP spent.  It also strikes me you shouldn't have to hand jam the XP cost of anything.  That's what the logic built into my spreadsheet does.

On initial creation of the various skills/traits it allows for both for importing chars. After that, you just enter the new amount.

XP tracking is on the list. Reminder: Pre Alpha state. Many things still don't work but I wanted to get SOMETHING out to show that yes, I am serious about these apps. This project has sat idle for what... 6-12 months now? So reviving it back, getting it out, and going to peck at it while I work on other related projects.

Normally I'd say wait until it's further along but.... do it. Make a nice long list of bugs. Report them using the link on the main page so it'll go straight to my issue tracker. Break it. I know there are things already broken but the more that are found now, the better.

I've been working on my spreadsheet for a LONG time, so I can wait for the promised features to be implemented, especially being those are what I really want out of this project. :)

I took AP Computer Science in high school, so I know how long actual coding can take.  That's completely aside from the insanely complicated formulas I developed to make my spreadsheet work.  That also took a while.  I can wait.  Just let me know how I can help you get after those features.  The algorithms exist, and were not easy to work out.  Turning RPG system rules into code is a lot harder theses days compared to the 1980s, when I first punched a Dragon Magazine program into BASIC and tweaked from there.

Once I get to modules I will probably need help along with the end optimization. As of right now, I think they will be the last thing I work on. Next code push I plan to have the core data editable along with a history section so you can keep track of the modules you have to manually enter for now.

I have yet to get all the modules entered into the spreadsheet I use myself.  Back in the day, Herb had asked me to "minimize verbatim content" from AToW, and I'm just not interested in typing in clan modules.  The other tricky bits are the rules around what modules you can take.  It's actually possible to take more than one Stage 3 module, but you have to be careful how you do it.  And there are almost as many pre-requisites for Stage 4 modules as there are modules...  8)

Yea, I've been working on a design for modules that would allow them to be handled and offer a "these are available to you based on where you've been" system.
