ANZAC day, 2019

They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

I am continuously impressed by the scale of contributions from such a small population base.
Think about it.  It's what we do.

Respect!  I wouldn't know who the ANZACs were if it wasn't for the mini-series with Paul Hogan on the TV when I was a kid.  But I remember it and I hope others do as well, or take the time to learn anout them.

Lest we forget.

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." - Atatürk
Incoming fire has the right of way.

The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.

Always remember that your weapon was built by the lowest bidder.

My wife and I are staying with my family while we get work done on our house, and their house is beside a military cemetery for veterans of the British army (so very few people have been buried there post-WWII for obvious reasons).  There's an ANZAC day memorial ceremony happening in there as I type.
