Last Chance, I like a lot of your designs, but this is probably your first design that I have looked at and said to myself "What was he thinking?". I see absolutely no real reason why any Faction in the Inner Sphere, or the Periphery, would want this design in 3067.

Giving the WoB Zhukov a Fusion engine significantly drives up cost, especially since the original Zhukov had a ICE engine. The Capellans could afford to lose the original Zhukov by the hundreds all over Capellan Space, and then easily replace those Zhukov losses. This WoB Zhukov is too expensive, and its Heavy PPC is too rare in the 3067 era to be able to risk losing signifcant numbers of WoB Zhukovs in the raging battles of the Jihad. I mean considering Heavy PPCs are so new to the Inner Sphere in 3067, it would probably take the WoB until the 3070 era before the WoB would be able to quickly replace/repair this WoB Zhukov, and even then, even in 3070, with the Fusion engines extra cost, it is not worth the money and effort to make/replace this WoB Zhukov Design. Investing in this WoB Zhukov, in any era, would be a total waste of CBills. The WoB can create cheaper ICE Engine versions of the Zkukov that are just as powerful and still get the job done on the battlefields of the Jihad. Also, I don't understand why a WoB Zhukov would not have a Improved C3 Computer? I dunno about you guys but when I put 2 and 2 together I get four, likewise when I put Zhukov Tank and Word Of Blake together I expect to see a Improved C3 Computer somewhere on the Zhukov Tank. I mean seriously any turret mounted dual gun wielding tank designed for direct fire support used by any WoB unit is going to have a Improved C3 Computer mounted on it, it is just how it is going to be, it is like the Masakari/Warhawk battlemech and a Advanced Targeting Computer, you just know theres gonna be a advanced targeting computer on any Warhawk/Masakari used by the Clans.

If I was going to create a 3067 WoB Zhukov Upgrade, I would keep the Ice Engine, upgrade the Standard Armor to Ferro-Fibrous Armor, and I would equip two Light Gauss Rifles and a Streak SRM 6 in the Turret, and equip a Light Machine Gun in the Front, Rear, Left Side, and Right Side, with a half ton of Light Machine Gun Ammo and a ton of Streak SRM 6 Ammo protected by CASE in the body, and a Improved C3 computer in the turret. This would make the WoB Zhukov still cheap enough to easily replace in large quantities, with components that can be easily repaired in the field/are readily available in the 3067 era.

This is probably the first design that I have seen you post Last Chance Cavalry that didn't make sense to me, but honestly you are one of my favorite posters in these forums, just thought I would let you know that I really like reading your designs. I like Kojaks designs too. I haven't seen Kojak post any designs lately, I look forward to seeing some new designs by him.

It would also carry Scorpion-like armor... 3.5 tons, to be exact. If you ditch the SSRM you'd get it up to 9.5 tons, a lot more reasonable.

I like the OP, it sticks with the original purpose - short/medium-range beatstick. C3i would have been nice, but it's hardly vital. You should be at medium range most of the time, not long.

The only complaints I have are standard rather than HFF armor, and MML5 instead of twin MML3s.

Yeah I wasn't sure just how much armor would be left over, but personally its just not a WoB Dual Gun wielding fire support tank if it doesn't have C3I, if you gotta drop the Streak SRM 6 for armor then so be it. Also, Heavy Ferro-Fibrous wasn't invented until 3069 by the Lyrans, this is a 3067 design. If you need long range armament slap on two Light Gauss Rifles, if you need medium range firepower then slap on two LB-10x autocannons, but either way, I have to have a C3I for my WoB Zhukov.

@ Turtle Wax, I agree the the Fusion engine makes it the "un-Zhukov", but I wanted to reflect the "who knows what spare-no-expense horrors the WoB might be dreaming up" feeling of the fluff text from the TRO. An the HPPC/LB10-X combo is certainly one to be feared by opposing mechs and armor. If I was doing a more straight forward upgrade with C3i, it would probably be 2 LB10-X (3 tons ammo), SRM4 (one ton ammo), C3i, CASE, and 10 tons of FF armor (179 point).

@ Sablekaten, I wish I'd thought to put HFF on as well, I would be fine pushing the intro date back for that.

Cheers,
LCC

And thinking a bit more about C3i ...

I'm not really sure if I should call this a Zhukov, but the guns can better take advantage of targeting data from C3 spotters.

ERPPC and LGR (with lots of ammo) plus a pair of MML3s (with lots of ammo as well) for support out to extreme range, and an AMS for extra defense. The side-mounted RL/10s is mostly to just give the crew something to shoot at flankers (and soak crits... ::) ). In the support role there shouldn't be any need for MGs - worst case, put an infantery platoon of your own next to them!

Ironically, there does seem to be an ICE, dual LB 10-X, C3i version of the Zhukov that's almost identical to LastChanceCav's idea. If I can go by the MegaMek folder in which I found the relevant file, I think it ought to be in Old Is The New New...

Doesn't pack any ferro-fibrous armor, though, only eleven tons of standard, which is why the autocannons have to split only twenty shots between them.

There does seem to be a canon WoB model as well, but if you think the OP's idea is too far removed from the "spirit" of the Zhukov you'll likely be even less happy with that one -- it's not necessarily a bad tank, just an expensive high-tech weapons platform (XL engine) with a case of New Toy Syndrome (paired LVSPLs for main guns at a time when, if everything lines up, those weren't even wholly out of the prototype stage yet, backed by a not-all-that-much-older MML rack and sheathed in similarly new and shiny heavy FF). You could buy a Level II of intro-tech Zhukovs for the C-bill cost of one of these and still have money left over for quite a bit of ammo and spare armor plating.

It does, however, have C3i. Should keep some people happy. ;)

Lb-10x and HPPC on a tank rocks.  Shame it is wobbie.

On the C3i version you might want to move said equipment out of the turret, should net a half ton of armor.

Glad you like it. Thanks for the catch on the C3i, I hadn't intended for it to be in the turret.
