And that's more acting than Stallone did.
Burn!

Dredd is good, even great considering the budget. But no, studios prefer to put their money into endless Bayformers....

Dredd cost $45mil to shoot, plus another $25mil in advertising. The box office take was $41mil, plus another $10mil in home media. Spending $70mil to clear $51mil? Yeah, I'd look to do something profitable instead.

According to IMDb, Dredd had an estimated budget of $35 million and a gross of $13.4 million.  That's definitely a loser at the box office.

Didn't Dredd air around the same time as The Raid?

It's more interesting than optimal, and therefore better. O0 - Weirdo

And I'd take it any day of the week over yet another couple hundred million dollar production, and if we stop pouring dollars into the cinematic excrementfest that is Bayformers and Bayturtles maybe audiences would appreciate the underdogs enough to make things profitable.

The Stallone was a lot more action. The Urban Dredd was a lot more closer to what it was supposed to be. Urban Dredd never took off his helmet and that was a big part.
But a movie true to form don't make money sometimes. As much as I like Urban and think he was the best part of the Star Trek Remakes, he is no Stallone and action part of the movie.

The Raid came out in 2011, Dredd came out in 2012.

Watched Allegiant for completion purposes.  :-[ I totally understand its 13 rotten rating at the tomato patch.  Even after Jeff Daniels explained everything, I didn't understand any of it.

Meow Liao

Technically it was only Allegiant Part 1.

The Stallone was a lot more action.

Call me a heretic but i LIKE the stallone Dredd.

Scott's 2010 version of Robin Hood.  It wasn't very Robin Hood, (maybe Robin Hood, Year 1),but it was enjoyable. The cast did it for me.  I loved Alan Doyle as Allan A'Dayle. (GBS fan, I.)

Your art, their business. From a business perspective I can't find fault with the studios going with the blockbuster tent pole movies, as that's their biggest bang for the buck. Sure, smaller movies have a better chance to get a better ROI based on percentage. But the bottom line is still the bottom line, and the shareholders want the bottom line sound.

Men in tights was funny as hell, but for a "robin hood" film it was no where in the ball park..  To me at least.

I couldn't stand the Costner version, either as a Robin Hood story or an action film.   The only redeeming feature to me is Alan Rickman's sublime overacting of the Sheriff.

I grew up on Robin Hood / Robin of Sherwood on Showtime as a kid, so that is my standard for a "gritty, realistic" retelling, even if I have to blame it in some ways for Morgan Freeman's character in Prince of Theives.  Robin of Sherwood had the first insertion of a Saracen into the myths, and Costner's film originally had Freeman's character named "Nasir," thinking it was part of the original stories.  They figured it out later and changed the name to "Azeem."

The thing that put me off RH:Prince of Thieves was when they went from the White Cliffs of Dover to Nottingham Forest via Hadrian's Wall, tripling the length of the journey!

Tomorrow I'm off to see Arrival - I've heard good things about it.

When I first watched the Costner version I thought it was a genuine parody, it seemed so over-the-top (Alan Rickman's performance did not help!)

Watched The Last Witch Hunter.  It was an enjoyable movie.  I've always liked Vin, but I have not gotten into the F&F series.

Now starting...Duck Soup. It's been on the dvr since August '15.

You have to respect a star big enough and yet geeky enough to get a movie made about his AD&D character.

Just watched this on Tuesday; absolutely enjoyed it; the casting for the main parts was well done - wouldn't have necessarily thought Caine and Diesel would be good on screen chemistry, but it definitely worked. (I knew it was loosely based on his DnD character, so I felt a certain obligation to watch it. I would love to see a DnD session with him, Dame Judi Dench, and maybe a few other famous DnD players together.)

Watched Magnificent Seven remake. Now I want to watch the original (remake) and then the original (samurai version) just to compare.

I think I give it an A-minus, its a pleasure these days to have a decently straight-shooting action movie and Chris Pratt is always funny  O0

Caught 2 last night.  First up was the newst in the iceage series.  Funny, but no where near as good as the prior 3..  Also, anyone know why those human cavemen like groups have NOT been seen since #1??

THen came a good action flick, the Eliminators with Scott adkins and wade Barret (wwe guy).  Rather decent for a A-/B rate group of actors..  And loved that it touched on witsec...

Probably because each film in the series has become sillier and sillier, and having humans added to the mix would rive it back into more serious territory.
