Favorite Concert you've been too.

What's been the favorite concert you've ever attended?

What was the concert you WANTED to go to, but never got the chance?

favorite, Rush, all 5 times I have seen them

the one I wanted to but it wont happen in this lifetime is
the Blues Brothers, original lineup
Resident Smartass since 1998
“Toe jam in training”

I think the best one was Iron Maiden on their Early Days tour.

I really wanted to go to Hammerfall, but it was in the middle of the week at the bussiest time at work.

Rush at Fiddler's Green in Denver in the late 90s. They performed the entire 2112 album after the intermission.

The best concert I've seen was Metallica with Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies way back in 1993.

Primus ranks a close second, saw them three times.

The one I wanted to see but didn't?   Page Plant.  When they were in Detroit I didn't see them, figuring I would see them later.  Never worked out because they only toured once.

Favorite: Parliament-Funkadelic at the Greek Theatre last August on George Clinton's final tour.* Although Fishbone almost blew the main act away when they opened so it was doubly good.

* Although he has now extended the tour with additional dates because he just can't give up touring after some 60 years or so of doing it.

Wanted to go but didn't get the chance: Rush on their farewell tour.

Jon Spencer Blues EXPLOSION! in Montreal, probably mid-to-late 90s ('96 or so?). Small club, great crowd, so, so, SO much energy. Second time I saw them in Osaka, maybe 2002 or so, was pretty good too, but it was a bigger venue and Japanese crowds are a lot more restrained.

Honorable mentions:
Lollapalooza the year Metallica headlined (also '96 I think). Metallica, Soundgarden, Ramones, Violent Femmes. Just funny because of all the Metallica fans screaming "Grow your hair back!"

Japanese boy-band SMAP, circa 2006. Only went because my wife's friend cancelled and she had an extra ticket. The only big stadium show I've ever been to, and it was fascinating to see a really big production with video screens and wire work and levitating platforms and the works. The music was whatever, but it was a memorable experience.

Rick Wakeman, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", live in Melbourne, 1972. Best ever, for me. Even better than Queen's "Night at the Opera" tour, 1976, when we got moved into the radio station winners' seats.

The one I missed, and shall forever regret: "The Final Oz", Dire Straits, 1986.

The thought-provoker: taking my son-in-law to see MSO performing the score to "Fellowship of the Rings". with the movie playing. He'd never really made the connection between the music & an orchestra making it.

Greatest concert I ever attended was Kyary Pamyu Pamyu at the House of Blues. Talk about the most surreal & hype experience - wall to wall weebs & lolitas jumping to the music & doing call & response with Kyary & her trippy stage performance!

Concert I most wished I could have attended was IdolM@ster Producer Meeting 2018 What Is Top? at Makuhari Messe. Sadly it would have required a miracle just to make it through the lottery to attend.

Dave Brubeck in 2008. Dude was 88 but he hadn’t lost much. It was Memorial Day weekend so they played a song called Weep No More he had written after the battle of the bulge in 1945 and had not performed live in decades.

A couple of mine

Nirvana, back in 92 or so.  The first gig I ever went to and it blew me away.

Sunstroke in 1994.  This was a short-lived and ill-fated one-day rock festival in Dublin in the 90s.  The first year Faith No More and the Chilli Peppers were meant to headline, but the Chillis pulled out.  The following year it was gong to be the Chillis and Soundgarden, but Soundgarden pulled out.  And Soundgarden finally played the third and final year.  But the 95 one, with Therapy? and the Chillis headline was amazing.  Therapy? played with such intensity that the crowd was exhausted after, and then Flea walked out on stage in an Irish jersey and sang a decent rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann.  the crowd went wild, but was still so tired after Therapy?  (Sadly Soundgarden weren't that good the last year, but it was the only time White Zombie played here, I'd never heard them before and became a fan on the spot)

Queen + Adam Lambert in 2018.  I was humming and hawing about going to this.  Queen are my favourite band and I was worried that this would basically be like a tribute act when they have a member of the original band with them.  But I was asked to work the bar (a lot of the bar staff at the big open-air gigs in the UK and Ireland are volunteers donating their pay to causes they support), so I was able to see the gig for free, and it was amazing.  Adam Lambert explicitly said he wasn't there to replace Freddie (I'm sure it's a well-rehearsed speech, but still a nice touch), the setlist was great, Brian and Roger both sang.  My only complaints were that there was a lot of faffing - plenty of extended drum and guitar solos, and a whole bit where Brian took selfies with the crowd and put them up on the big screen; and they played a bit of You Take My Breath Away as an intro to another song with felt like teasing me with a favourite song.  The only deep cut was I'm In Love With My Car.

Atari Teenage Riot in 2010.  I was at the front of the crowd, Nic Endo screamed in my face at one point, CK KiDTRONiK gave me his mic to yell into during MIDIJunkies, and I got kicked in the head by Alec Empire while he crowdsurfed.  Great time.

VNV Nation in 2005.  This was the first time they'd played Dublin despite Ronan Harris being born here, and it felt like a homecoming.  A bunch of people he knew from the Dublin Goth/Industrial scene were up front, giving support.  And towards the end, I can't remember what song it was, but everyone was singing along and dancing and there was this look on his face like everything was worth it because he got to come home, play his songs and get all this love reflected back.

Ministry.  Basically every time I've seen them, most recently 2018.  I was actually at their "last-ever show", and have seen them twice more since then.

Ninja Sex Party, sometime last year. Ended up maybe thirty feet from the stage. I've been to a Shuttle launch, but that concert remains the loudest thing I've ever experienced. And I'm not talking about the band, I'm talking about the audience. :o

I saw Slipknot with Lamb of God and Shadows Fall in 2005. Both Lamb of God and Shadows Fall were relatively unknown at the time but were really good. Just loved it how the whole floor of Cobo Arena turned into a Mosh Pit for Slipknot. SO a couple of thousand person mosh pit.
What hurt is got out of the concert around 11p and had to work the next day at 4am a 12 hour shift. AH the young and dumb days.
It was also one of the few Saturday concerts....most of the time when Bands come to Detroit. its on a tues or wed night.

I can't think of any concerts that I went to besides Journey.  That one was pretty cool, though.  It was the new singer.

Being a Queen fan, there's only one option for the dream concert.  Wembley Stadium, July 13, 1985, 6:41pm.  I wish I'd been able to see it on TV and not just Youtube.

Sadly, the only concert I can think of attending was the Beach Boys around the same time, when they did a gig at the Murph in San Diego.  Hey, it was the 80s, they were still cool.

Pink Floyd's ''The Division Bell Tour'' in may 1994. The only time I saw Montreal's Olympic Stadium full.  :)

I wish I would have been able (meaning have the money  :-X) to see Peter Gabriel and Paul McCartney last time they did concerts here.

I see a bunch of fellow Canadians posting so this will make sense to most of them. There are 4. All were at Maple Leaf Gardens.
 1) ABBA. The final tour in January of 1979. Concert was great (they required 6 back-up vocalists to even approximate their level of sound engineering). Important lesson learned - Do NOT get floor seats during hockey season. The floor was just a single layer of wood over the ice. People weren't just dancing because of the music, It was to keep your feet from freezing.
2) Prince. Purple Rain Tour (1983/84 I would say). Seats could have been better. Largest mixing control console I've ever seen.
3) Chris de Burgh. 1988 or so. Just high quality entertainment.
4 Fleetwood Mac. 1989 or 90. One of the first dates with my (now) wife. No opening act. During the intermission Mick Fleetwood stayed on stage while everyone else went to change. He walked to front of the stage & took off his shirt. He had taped drum pick-ups to his upper torso. For the next 15 minutes he proceeded to play himself as a drum set. Absolutely amazing.

Favorite concert?  Hmm.

Weird Al Yankovic during the Straight Outta Linwood tour- I got a seat right in front of the stage next to a center aisle,  and he came dancing down it for one song.

Either that or Joan Jett, when I also got a seat right in front of the stage.  Pretty sure I have permanent hearing loss from that concert, but so worth it.

The best concert I've seen was Metallica with Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies way back in 1993.

I saw that one too, in Wisconsin.  Traffic was such a mess that we got there just in time to see Danzig closing.  I later heard that ST was pretty lame since the singer just sat on a couch and sang for about 30 minutes because he hurt is leg or something.  I was a ST fan when I was a little wannabe punk.

I haven't gotten to many concerts in my time, but I think my fav was around 2000 when I saw Kid Rock and Metallica in the same bill.

One I wish I would have gotten to was when Megadeth played on my birthday a few years ago.   I had a business contact owing me a $500 finders fee and I was going to use it to get backstage passes for the wife and I so we could get a guitar signed by the band.  Well the finders fee didn't come through in time and my baby sitter fell through at the same time so I didn't get to go.  Still regret not just putting it all on a credit card and pulling in some baby sitter favors.

Sadly, the only concert I can think of attending was the Beach Boys around the same time, when they did a gig at the Murph in San Diego.  Hey, it was the 80s, they were still cool.

I used to work with a guy who has hearing loss from too many beach boys concerts.  I do believe that Pet Sounds is still regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Hmmm....Favorite concert. It's a tie between these three:

1. Cannibal Corpse w/Exhumed, Arkaik & Abysmal Dawn at the Blue Note in 2012.

2. Katatonia & Opeth at The Beaumont Club in 2011

3. Primus at the Blue Note in 2012.

Concert that I'm really kicking myself for missing? Rush at the Sprint Center in 2015. To this day I still regret missing out on that one.

Paul Kelly, supported by Steve Earle on the outside steps of the Sydney Opera House. Kelly is an Australian icon and was magnificent. Meanwhile, the support act was Steve Earle - my favourite artist in the world. When Earle got up to join Kelly half way through his set and my two favourite musicians were in stage... wow.
And amazing venue - open air in front of a landmark. Just mind blowing.

Gig I always wanted to see - Warren Zevon. He died before I could make it to the US and see him and I always regret never getting to see him live on stage

Favorite concert?  That's easy!  :)

In 2014, I was stationed in Naples, Italy.  For our 20th wedding anniversary, we went to Venice (leaving the children in the charge of their oldest sibling).  After we got there, we found tickets (cheap, for such things) for a performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons on San Marco's Square.  The chamber musicians were FANTASTIC, and even better was seeing the interplay between them.  The others all thought First Violin was more than a little full of himself, and it was SO obvious, it was hilarious.  We weren't the only ones giggling about it.  While I'm sure it was merely a part of the performance, it was STILL hysterical...  ;D
