Locust LCT-8VC
« on: 04 January 2025, 14:06:41 »

The latest iteration of Locust rolling out of the many Locust factories that dot ilKhan Ward's Empire, it is a return to form of sort as a modestly affordable and easy enough to produce garrison Scout/Infantry-killer. Harkening back to the ancient LCT-1V, the -8VC uses a Clan-grade ER Medium Laser for a decent punch and an AP Gauss Rifle in each arm stub, fed by a single ton of ammo.

Powered by an LTV 180 SFE (an upscaled version of the LT 160 most common amongst Locusts), the -8VC can reach up to 151/kph on flat ground within moments. The use of a Standard type Engine was to keep costs and maintenance down. Keeping the -8VC stable at speed is a 1-ton XL Gyro as a weight saving measure. The -8VC is clad in 5-tons of Ferro Lamellor Plating, which gives it an above average durability for a 20-tonner 'Mech, it also adds the benefit of making the -8VC immune to infantry small arms fire which are it's main prey. Keeping the 'mech cool are 10 Clan-Grade Freezers, which is regarded as overkill in the majority of cases it will find itself in, but was chosen to not have Mech Techs needing to be trained for 'Mech-mounted Singles in addition to Freezers given how rare those are in the mid-32nd century.

Infantry damage is applied in two-point groups... how does Ferro-Lamellar immunize against that?

I was lied to, but granted I haven't used ATOW style infantry in years so I may've forgotten certain things. Plus, I consider the idea of Small Arms actually harming armored units in BT to be utterly ridiculous beyond miracles when attacking internal structure.

I mainly have moved over to Battledroids Infantry like here since I find them easier to run

It's Tech Manual style infantry, but yeah... and I was in that thread too... ;)

I'm firmly in the camp of TL D small arms being able to damage BAR 10 armor en masse (or even individually if they're big enough or have a high fire rate, yes that includes the bog-standard Auto-Rifle).  AP 4 is about double the armor penetration of current small arms.

Ferro lam makes it so you take half damage from infantry, so its still a fantastic weapon.

A nice variant might be a medium pulse and 2 micro pulse lasers, for the all energy version, and a 1E version with 2 ER meds and 2 ER smalls for when you go mech hunting like the 1v->1e did.
