Warlord-like Sagittaire variant
« on: 19 September 2019, 12:05:45 »
Over in the Warlord thread on the Fan Articles forum, there's a certain longtime poster who wonders why the AFFS needs the Warlord when they have the Sagittaire, a variant of which could fill the same battlefield role as the Warlord.  So, here is my take on a Warlord-like variant of the Sag.  Still slow as a Lyran plodder, with the same armour and engine, but the tarcomp was sacrificed for the extra mass of HPPCs and extra heat sinks.

Wow, that design can run hot, but it can throw a lot of damage down range!  Bracket firing is a must to avoid a shutdown.  It would be tempting to ad a cooling pod for a nasty surprise.  Nicely done.

Down the road a few decades, I’m imagining dropping the leg pulses for a RHS for some real punishment.

I really like the re-arm.  However....  I really hope, for the pilot's sake, the "big red button" is also tied into the ejection system!!!

I don't see the point of the ER PPC.  It's would only seem to ever be used in the 5 hexes a Heavy PPC can't reach.  If we're going for Sagittaire with Warlord flavor, I'd swap it out for a targeting computer.  You could drop a couple heat sinks to accomodate the space.

Well it is kinda critpacked. ERLL+4th MPL combo, ERPPC or Large Pulse for more upclose firepower might be the only options you really have room and weight for.

I would almost consider (even though they suck) a large pulse.  That way you have something more viable at close range....the ERPPC is good, but the paired HPPCs are the main long range throw....much too tempting to include the ERPPC.  My 0.02$

That is exactly what it's for.  A slow 'Mech like that needs at least one long-range stinger.  (I consider the HPPC a medium-range weapon on a modern battlefield.)  It also gives the option of a solid (if hot) 10-point hit at point-blank ranges where the HPPC's minimum range becomes an issue.

If I were going to drop the ER PPC for anything, I would do it to free up weight for a standard engine; I would sooner take that over a tarcomp.  But that's just me.

I had also considered IJJs in place of the MPLs and standard JJs.

OK, here is a standard engine variant.  More durable now, but loses the extra reach and has nothing to discourage backbiters anymore.

Here is a version that is the purest translation of the Warlord's loadout onto the Sag's frame, with the tarcomp and jump jets, and no ER PPC.  And has a standard engine to boot.  It's definitely a bracket firer, though, since a few heat sinks had to be sacrificed to make it work.

And here is an IJJ variant.  Again, a pretty pure translation of the Warlord loadout onto the Sag's chassis, this time including the XL engine.
Still a bit uneasy with the lack of a long-range stinger, but that 150 metre jump capacity gives it tactical options 95 tonners don't usually have.

So, now I'm imagining people boxing up Overlords for loading as cargo.  "Nope, totally not a DropShip.  Everyone knows you can't fit a DropShip in a WarShip!  It's...a ten thousand ton box of marshmallows!  Yeah.  For the Heavy Guards big annual smores party."
--Arkansas Warrior, on the possibility of carrying Dropships as cargo in Warship cargo bays.

TERRAN SUPREMACY DEFENSE FORCE.  For when you want to send the SLDF, but couldn't afford the whole kit and kaboodle.

Just had a mean and nasty idea...not sure if it will work...not at home with HMP in front of me.  BUT.  2x HPPC w/Cap, Radical heat sink, some ermeds.  Paired 20 point smacks at decent range with a bevy of ermediums to support close range.
If at first you don't succeed, make it worth the repairman's time!
