Cross Country, Nightwalker, et al
« on: 22 May 2024, 22:02:16 »
There are various Special Abilities available under GM Mode --> Edit
that do not show up when trying to Spend XP --> Special Abilities
on an Elite (Vehicle Driver in this case).

Anyone know if these abilities are actually in the game,
and/or why they don't show up under Spend XP --> SPA's ?

Not all SPAs are available by default.  To change that you'll need to go into campaign options to add them.

What else do I need to do to get Cross-County to actually work?

Assign the SPA, use the unit.

I should have been more specific.
I have multiple elite tracked-tank drivers with Cross Country, and they still treat Heavy Woods as no-go terrain.

Working fine for me.

Make sure you are assigning the SPA to the vehicle commander, which is the only thing MegaMek cares about. The rest of the vehicle crew is for MekHQ purposes only.

Well, crap.
This is going to create a enormous amount of work for me, cuz I'm not okay with that.  I'm going to have to assign any driver SPA's -temporarily- to my gunner-commanders and any gunner SPA's -temporarily- to my driver-commanders ... And remember to remove the SPA's whenever I reassign crewmembers. Ugh!

Thanks to both of you for clearing this up for me.

Multi-person crews in MHQ are set up to start with the SPAs the commander (highest rank) has.  They need to have the SPA in order for the MM unit crew to have that SPA; if they do not have a specific SPA then the MM unit crew will never have the SPA.  Then, the rest of the crew is taken into consideration, typically 50% rounded up.

This can be a bit of problem with vehicle crews and mobility SPAs given that it is not common for the 'driver' position to be the ranking member, and mobility SPAs have a piloting skill requirement which is not something you'll commonly put XPs towards on vehicle gunners.  I usually modify SPA prerequisites so that the mobility SPAs have the option for gunnery skills so that they have the possibility of happening in my campaigns.

NOPE!

Driver Commander with Cross-Country.  Once I get into a battle, I can't use it.  So I hover over the unit and Cross-Country is not listed as one of the commander's SPA's, when I can clearly see that it IS in MHQ.

To be more specific, I have 2 tank commanders in one lance with Cross-Country, and when I start a battle with them, Cross-Country is not listed on them in the battle Lobby, while other SPA's are.
I have (weeks ago) added them as valid SPA's under Campaign Options.
