Wisp UltraLight Tank
« on: 05 August 2024, 11:51:19 »
The wisp is basically the smallest  and cheapest I think I can make a combat unit while still having acceptable speed and firepower for it's cost.

Wisp- Tracked so it can handle most terrain. 7/11 MP. only 15 tons easy to move in numbers. Able to take a single 10 point blow in any arc but rear. rear can still take some arty. Has single small laser. Cheap at 123k

I suggest dropping the movement by one to drop the price by a lot, and then doubling the firepower and tripling the range by removing 1/3 of the armor:

while still having acceptable ... and firepower

Thoughts or suggestions are welcome

Got to be honest, I think you failed on this part, LOL.
IIRC a single small laser is the firepower that you can have and STILL be forced into Force Withdrawal, so, I'm thinking that isn't enough.
Savannah Master has a Medium at 5 Tons, so at 15 you have to match that.

Using the same chassis you could have 3 MGs & 100 shots which would still be an improvement IMO.

so hellraiser I actually have the 3 machine gun design already made it's even a little cheaper. I also have a vehicle flamer design made up it's also cheaper.

Also just playing around if I drop it 1 mp to 6/9 I can fit 5 machine guns for 2k more cost.

Not sure if you've seen it, but, there are versions of the 10-Ton APC line that drop the 1 ton Infantry bay for added MG(s).

Nothing against a mech, but, nice little units to support Militia forces.

A 7/11 vehicle that can take a regular PPC to any facing but only armed with a Small Laser would make for a decent scout unit.  Enemy artillery would need something heavier in order to properly remove them.

The problem is that during a battle you have to move them last in the initiative order so they can be in range to use their Laser.  Otherwise, the opponent will just ignore them as they are too well-armored to be worth tossing heavy weapons at.  A Mech with Medium Lasers would be used to hunt these down towards the end of the battle.

Perhaps using them to ram an enemy unit would be a good idea?

Yeah, a single small laser on an ICE chassis is a pretty shabby weapon choice.  For the same weight you can get an SRM2 +1T of ammo or 3MG and 1/2T of ammo.

Personally I prefer SFE engines in ultralights, pushes the cost up to about 300k but you can get 3 medium lasers on a 12T chassis moving 6/9 which will overmatch wisps 3v1 without breaking a sweat
