Welcome to COTMAT (Cowdragon Over The Moon Aerospace Technologies). I'm a pretty prolific poster on the Aerospace boards here, so figured rather than clutter everything up so much, I'd try and stick it all into one thread. Hope this works out better. Feel free to peruse and make suggestions. Compliments are accepted here, the complaint department is manned by ex-convicted felons who were guilty of not using their blinkers and being complete jerks. Their office is in the basement behind the stack of old asbestos ceiling tiles.  :D

To start off, I'll repost all of the latest designs I've been working on for a while now for my personal fleet. You may notice some continuity between designs. This is intentional. Designs are imagined to look very similar and even perform in conjunction with each other. You may also notice that most of these designs are different than the last time I posted them. Like George Lucas, I have trouble leaving my creations alone. Unlike George Lucas, I don't think Jar Jar Binks is a good idea. Hope you enjoy. Without further adieu, I present to you my flagship model... the Longship!

*it was pointed out that my design was even more illegal than I had thought, as warships must be in 10,000 ton incriments. So it was modified from 95,000 tons down to 90,000 tons.

==Overview:==
The Longship class Cutter is for the Space Viking in al of us. Built for
lighting fast raids and sacking of obnoxious monks, it performs well in its
duties. Usually paired with standard jumpships and others of its kind, a group
of these can easily overwhelm even other warships with its speed and firepower
(its compliment of fighters and small craft help as well.)

The Longship is based on a tried and true variant I have played for years. I
know that it is an illegal weight class by modern standards, but I like it to
be small and agile. So 90,000 tons it stays. haha

It has at least 1 extreme range energy weapon facing out each of its major
arcs (front, sides, aft). It can also carry a pair of dropships, which very
much help in its mission profile. This ship is a major exploit of BV games as
it weighs in at only slightly over 17k in BV. I can bring in entire squadrons
of these in BV styled games and seriously overwhelm my opponents (been there,
done that!) and still have enough BV for other standarnd Jumpships and loads
of Dropships. Plus their integral small craft compliments of course.

Hope you enjoy what I've done over these years, trying to perfect this

There are 6 Longships in the Valhallen Homeworld Fleet:
Skandia
Svedlandia
Norway
Denmark
Finnlandia
Icelandia

Each is capable of carrying 2 Dropships, 6 Small craft, and 2 Fighters.

So far they have all stayed uniform in what small craft and fighters they
carry, although this is up to each captain. As for dropships, this changes due
to mission profiles. Inplanetary invasion type missions they would carry mech
and fighter carriers, in patrol missions it would be cargo and fighters, or
sometimes just some assault/patrol droppers, etc.

As for the small craft and fighters, each one has upgraded to a pair of the
new Hala Light Fighters, and 2 Gravling Escort Craft, 2 Lopare Light Tankers,
1 Battle Taxi, and 1 Glacier Cargo Hauler.

Noted flaws of the design: all Longships have been designed without HP's or
Lithium Fusion Batterys. This has only recently been considered a flaw.
Originally it helped to get them into service quite rapidly. They are very
small and fairly simple to build, many times using weapons salvaged from the
larger, original Valhallen Exodus Fleet. However, now that Valhallen citizens
have voted to reveal themselves to the Inner Sphere (and the Clans) it has
been suggested that upgrades may be needed. HPG's are fairly simple and can
help communicate rapidly with the Homeworlds, but LFB's are a much more
extensive upgrade. Moves have been made to start the process however. Also,
crew quarters are tight. Each crew member has a private room (something not
granted by most navys), but the space is very small (even the Captain only has
a 5 ton living quarters). But most crew do not complain too much about it,
considering themselves lucky to have a private room.

==Capabilities:==
Armed with a small battery of Naval Lasers, Longships are a real threat to
other capital ships, while its batterys of standard weapons (ER PPC's, Large
Pulse Lasers, AMS, and LB-10X AC's) it is capable of driving off and
threatening fighters and other small vessels.

The NLAS-55's are of special note. One is nose mounted, and the other 4 are
mounted in the F R/L and A R/L arcs. these can be aimed directly in front or
in back (2 each) of the Longship to give it extreme reach from every arc,
maximizing each weapon. The same coverage is offered by its pulse lasers,
while the PPC's are fore, aft, and broadsides. The AC's are all broadside
mounts.

as for cargo carried, it has 1,000 tons allocated for fuel as these are
regularly sent on long patrols around the Valhallenmark borders, and another
800 tons of cargo. It also carries 80 tons of consumables. These are not a
lot, but more than adequate for what it is meant to perform.

The craft was designed with the idea that PAL suited marines would protect
them in case of being boarded, and these are also the soldier who board other
ships with the battle taxi's. As such, the quarters that the Marines take up
is larger than standard, and so are all corridors, to help accomodate the
bulky armor.

==Battle History:==
Not much of the Valhallen military has seen combat as Valhallens. There are
the Viking partys that frequently enter the Inner Sphere disguised as
mercenary forces to gain combat experience and to experience battle without
causing damage to the Homeworlds, but within the borders it has been very
peaceful.

A few times however, there has been confrontation with ships bumbling into the
Vahallenmark. Some of these have ended in bloodshed. So far, they have all
ended very badly for anyone who refused to lay down their arms.

2788: A band of deep periphery pirates jumped in system and tried to take a
Valhallen Jumpship. The VSN Meadry. The crew resisted long enough for help to
arrive, and the pirates were overwhelmed. Onbaord their own jumpship, 50
slaves were discovered and freed. The pirates were in fast vessels, prompting
the decree to start building a Navy of pursuit craft that would be capable of
patroling the borders and catching pirates and dealing with them.

2795: Captain Birch, of the RWS Krait jumped within the Valhallenmark. They
had refused to follow Amaris and decided to go into the deep periphery. They
had been traveling the galaxy for years at this point and were down to about
half their original numbers. They were all malnurised and ill on some level or
another. When ordered to stand down they complied without resistance. Once it
was realized who they were and what they had done, they were treated as
heroes. Offered citizenship, and commissions. Captain Birch served on the
Krait, spying on the Inner Sphere until his demise 30 years later, of natural
causes. His reports were considered invaluable. The "Skandia" was still a
prototype, but was the vessel that gave the order for Birch and his crew to
stand down.

2831: A strange force, that was very well armed, jumped in system and refused
any communications with the Valhallens. A battle ensued, which ended with the
strangers jumping away after severe losses. The Valhallens had not expected
this either, and their own losses were devestating to them. Although they lost
no capital ships, they lost over 40 fighters. When the remains of the strange
force were examined, they were wearing insignias with the numer 331 on them,
had pictures of Terran Minnesota, and what appeared to be a wolverine head on
them. They had advanced SLDF technology, and fought with strange tactics. They
were suicidal. This event prompted the Viking Partys that have become a
tradition of many of the younf adults in Valhalla. It is the thinking that
Viking Partys will give the young warriors battle experience. The 6 Homeworld
Longships all fought in this battle. The Spjut Aerospace fighters made their
debut in this battle as well.

2853: Another band of pirates jumped in system and siezed a moon outpost, and
killed or enslaved all hands. They were aprehended soon after, and this
prompted "Operation Pirate Flush" which moved to find the nearest pirate
holds, and destroy them. It also gave the Valhallenmark its closest holds to
the Inner Sphere. These were turned into listening outposts, and the local
populations have since been granted citizenship. The 3 "Patrol" class
Longships that are still stationed at these worlds were integral in destroying
the pirates here.





==Variants:==
There have been a few upgraded with HPG's to make room cargo space was reduced
slightly. Engineers are still trying to figure out if adding LFB's would be
viable, as space is so tight.


There is an even cheaper variant of the Longship. It is meant for patrol duty
(Longship Patrol), and was part of the reason so many of these have been built
over the years. It removes all docking collars compltely. Adds 2 Fighter Bays,
2 Small Craft Bays, 10 tons of consumables, and the rest goes to extra cargo.
These are only  1/3 of the cost of the original Homeworld Longship. They also
make up 2/3's of the Class in current service. All of the Longships that have
been upgraded with HPG's have been of the Patrol Variant.

==Deployment==
The original 6 Longships have been stationed around the Valhallen Homeworlds,
while a dozen more patrol the Valhallenmark borders. There are also 3 on the
very edge of what used to be the RWR, protecting star systems siezed from
pirate bands.

In case the Valhallenmark were to ever face invasion by a foreign power, these
would be the first line of defense. Although they are scattered, it is not
likely they would be very effective against a force of warships. They would be
devestating against jumpships however, and even fighters would struggle in
many cases. If however, these were to concentrate their numbers they could
offer stiff resistance to any invader daring to enter the Valhallenmark, while
the larger warship fleet assembled.

My next submission is a stolen  idea and a stolen name. (Thanks Fireangel)

A "Compact Core Jumpship". Made with the warship rules, but not a warship. Although it is a mothership, able to spew forth an entire fleet from its innards, from the secrecy and protection of its disguise. It looks like a regular Invader Jumpship, even carrying the hydroponics bays. It has very few weapons, only some point defense and anti-meteor weapons itself. It CAN propel itself through the void, but is ponderous.

Inside is the real treasure. 6 internal pressurized bays capable of transporting dropships up to 500 tons, even in transit! (I had to make up a few things with a lot of help from others). It carries 18 fighters and 12 small craft. It can also carry 3 dropships externally, the better to keep up its ruse. It even carries an advanced Bloodhound Probe to not only mimick, but excel at the original's intended role. Ladies and gentlemen, Please also note that this ship can carry almost 36,000 tons of cargo. I present to you... the Invader II Compact Core Jumpship!

Now for the Trireme. A monstrous sized ship compared to everything else in my fleet. This big bessy weighs in at 400,000 tons... but is not fat. She's BBW my friends. She carries her weight very nicely in the form of 7 Dropships and a dozen Small Craft. Again, the armament is light; just enough to blast a meteor or slow down a pirate while she deploys her small craft and dropships. Although she has lots of consumables and fuel, she has a very tiny amount of cargo space. All cargo of any real amount can be handled by her dropships and small craft. The Trireme is truly the workhorse of my fleet, where "transport" is concerned.

Speaking of workhorses, now I will get to my premier battlemech carrier. Fast, well armored, and even moderately armed, the Bullet Mech Transport brings back that "retro" feel with its steampunk look circa 1950's Terran sci-fi movies. Compared to other spheroid dropships, it is quite elongates, like a rocket ship that lands on its tail. All of its weapons and defensive systems are energy based except for the Arrow IV Missile Artillery System in its nose. This is capable of supporting its payload of mechs and battle armored marines, or firing Davy Crocket warheads at toaster worshipers warships. The Bullet will get you there fast and safe. Then it'll help out in the fight!

Now for my secondary battlemech transport. Where the Bullet carries an entire company of battlemechs, the Nordanthruma carries a Level II Lance. Still fast, and armed with only lightning tossing ER PPC's (hence the name). Nothing otherwise overly fancy here. A transport meant to reduce its supply needs by sticking to my "energy weapons only" doctrine, it's fast, moderately armored, and the 12 ER PPC's give it complete coverage. Allied craft will give it any other support it needs.

I use the 2 in my fleet to carry my "Igniter Teams" behind enemy lines, then move and pick them up later at a predetermined time and place.

Here's my Fighter Carrier; the Ornnastet or "Eagle's Nest". It is fast and carries 18 fighters into battle. It can back them up pretty well, but would prefer not to linger, but to let the fighters do their thing. Not a lot in the way of cargo or consumables, this craft cannot exist without support from the rest of the fleet. But it does what it does very well.

The Knorr Tanker. The fuel tanker in my fleet. Carries over 6,000 tons of fuel, with 6 refueling Drogues as well. Nothing fancy here. Small crew. Large amount of consumables, is a design flaw left over from the original Knorr Freighter design. Small cargo hold of only 100 tons, which actually should be more than enough for the crews requirements.

Next up is the Alpaca. This one was very recently posted separately. There weren't any comments on it so I'm hoping that means it's nice and boring just the way it's meant to be. This is a non-combatant. Just some AMS and anti-meteor weapons (seeing a theme here? haha)

A contender for to the Mule, this one does something the Mule must be modified for. It carries several small vehicles (12 in all), along with a small craft compliment of 4. It also carries 5,041 tons of cargo, divided into 11 compartments, with a nice fuel payload and consumable payload to take care of things for over 70 days each. Nothing fancy about the Alpaca (named so because it too is a pack animal, though slightly smaller than the Mule). It also has several passenger quarters of varying degrees from first class to steerage.

Next up is the smallest dropship in my fleet. The entire compliment of Gorgon Gunships is actually transported completely internally via Invader II's (mine, not those other knock-offs ;) )

Weighing in at only 500 tons, they again repeat a theme within my fleet of small and fast, but hitting very hard. They also rely upon copious amounts of nose mounted cannon of differing caliber and type. The Gorgon is a Battle Taxi on steroids, but can also be dropped somewhere and survive for up to 10 days waiting for a later pickup or rendezvous at a safer or more convenient time and place. These little guys are serious threats to other craft, whether capital scale of smaller. With a safe thrust of 8 they are faster than many fighters, and they carry much more armor than most. they have an integral squad of battle armored marines, can carry even more standard marines if needed, and have a full short term brig for any prisoners taken. The Flamers are used for extra thrust and to melt through stubborn hulls. Only 4 escape pods are onboard as the extra tonnage that would most likely be used for prisoners was deemed unnecessary and secondary compared to other needs of crew and craft.

Overall the Gorgon is probably the worst thing you could hope to face in a lifetime. Once one (or more) gets your ship in its sights, you very well have most likely lost your ship and your freedom... possibly your life.

Now on to the small craft of the fleet. We will start with the most numerous and move on to the more exciting ones.

The Glacier Light Cargo Hauler is just what the name says it is. It moves pretty slowly and steadily, hence the name "Glacier". Weighing in at just 175 tons, it devotes a full 50 tons to standard cargo, and another 9 tons to spare parts and other tidbits. It has a lucky 13 days of consumables in case it need to run farther out in system. Only the smallest amount of "weaponry" graces its hull. Enough to keep some tailgaters off hopefully. It also has room for up to 4 passengers (steerage) which have very cramped quarters, but may gain passage on the craft if the need arises.

There are a full 36 of these little reliable cargo haulers in my fleet!

Alright, I had lost this thing because I couldn't remember what I named it. But I found it, I'll be adding it to my sig very soon so that I don't lose it. But for now, it's time to revive it. I'll start by reposting things I've scattered all over, and we can tweak them from here I hope.

I just have to do this, because it's so much easier for me to find my stuff all in one place like this. Hopefully I'll also post my 1 Million BV fleet in here. The reason for this is nostalgia. Used to play planetary conquest from the tactical handbook back in the late 90's with some buddies. We would always have 1 million points to take a planet with. It was a lot of fun. Usually took several weekends worth of playing.

To start, I'm reposting my Slukarna. This fighter is a beast! I've since tweaked the thing to match some artwork I found (I'll post that as well). This is a capital ship denial weapon. If you have big ships, this is sent in to blast them to pieces. It's got heavy armor (in the nose especially), the speed to bring its weapons to bare, the hitting power to punch through, and a sort of steampunk look (a mix of aerotech and WWII). If my calculations are correct, it can dish out 8 capital damage from its front arc (and vent the heat), and a squadron can then deal 48 capital? Unless the wing guns are rounded to .3 instead of 1 as a squadron. Not sure. Can't remember. But in that case it would still deal... 40 capital damage? Oh well, it's a lot.

here's the Amarnis, which I just posted in its own thread, but am just starting with my reorganizing stuff. So here goes.

This will be the standard Assault Fighter of my AU. Easy for pilots to hit what they aim at, fairly well armored. Fast enough that they don't feel like they are flying a whale. No ammunition to keep track of. Groups of these along with Slukarna for support can very rapidly force surrender of larger craft... or prepare them for salvage. Again, this fighter deals tremendous amounts of capital scale damage. A squadron deals a full 27 points! Plus, they look cool.

A note on the art I'm stealing: this is to show generally what it looks like. I was super happy with this find (quite by accident). I have several drawings I've made, with a cockpit set far back, engines on either side, and a nose with a 5 barreled pulse laser array. I wanted that classic WWII feel to it. But I have no scanner. Then I stumbled on this warhammer 40k Thunderbolt, and realized that although I didn't copy it... my artwork was far from original. but at least it looks like what I wanted!

Here's the Monsmeg. The standard fighter/bomber of my AU. It's pretty speedy, although the armor could be heavier it's not meant for dogfights as much as blasting targets with the Arrow IV missiles it can carry. Usually loaded up with two. One internally and one externally. Pilots brag how it can hit above its weight class. It does this well.

Named after the medieval supergun the Mons Meg, this little fighter is a
deadly threat. It carries one medium pulse laser in each wing, tied into an
advanced targeting computer to increase accuracy. The Monsmeg Fighter/Bomber
hits what it shoots at.

But the REAL strength of the fighter is its 5 ton capable internal bomb bay.
Loaded with bombs it can wreak havoc against ground targets, carrying as many
bombs both internally and externally as heavy fighters can carry. It can also
load a pair of Arrow IV Missiles. One internal, one external. In this
configuration it can attack capital ships, space stations, ground tarts, you
name it. Although it only has the 2 shots, it can then zip back to base for

This next one is something interesting. The MiG-15. Named for the venerable Korean War veteran aircraft of ancient Terra. When the nation of Valhalla was still new, they had serious concerns that they would be discovered by remnants of the Star League or one of the Great Houses. If this happened they were afraid of being conquered or destroyed. They therefore decided it was in their best interest to get as many aerospace assets built as possible to stop any attempts at invasion they may face. The MiG-15 was the result of this. It was originally built with four nose mounted Small Pulse Lasers to give it an accurate punch. These have since been tied into the more modern targeting computer. The armor is ferro-aluminum and the engine is XL. Although these are advanced features, they were not outside of the ability for the Valhallens to produce. Each one costs just slightly over 1 million V-Bills to construct, and pilots love how fast they are.

The MiG-15 is the premier interceptor fighter of the Valhallenmark. They are not built for range or endurance. But to swarm the sky like hornets and overwhelm an enemy with sheer numbers. They are highly maneuverable both in and out of an atmosphere.

the Valhallen Space Navy is decidedly light, very much like their Army. They do have heavy elements, but being a nation originally made up of Light Horse, Special forces, and Black Ops primarily, they just naturally leaned towards lighter forces. As such, the primary aerospace fighter of the nation is the Spjut, or Spear. When the Valhallens first arrived in the Valhallenmark, they had hundreds of Sabres. These plucky little fighters are what the Spjut was based off of by the designers.

It also carry's the Valhallenmark signature weapons development. The Sniper Laser. "Hit first" was the motto when this weapon was designed, and the Spjut was practically designed around it. One is mounted in each wing tip, which allows both to strike directly in front of the fighter, or one to reach to the sides of the craft. An AMS with one ton of ammo was mounted in the tail (which doesbles in protecting both the fighter squadron and the capital ship it is escorting), and the Spjut carries enough fuel to run escort duty or patrol runs. due to its speed and mass, the Spjut is also regularly fitted with weapons pods in under wing mounts. Generally Rocket Launchers if combat is expected or extra fuel tanks for even longer patrols and escorts.

For reference: The Sniper Laser is 3 tons, 2 crits, deals 4 damage, 6 heat, and has the same range as a Clan ER Large Laser. It really gives the Valhallen pilots the ability to hit first in almost every situation they may face.

This is the newest, and most advanced fighter in the Valhallen Space Navy. A sleek, fast fighter, based off of everything else the Valhallens know so far about space combat. It is the anchor of most squadrons, able to assist with whatever duties they are already engaged in. Be those dogfighting or hunting capital ships. Heavy armor, and decent speed are combined with the exrtreme range of the Valhallen Sniper Laser (5 barrelled, nose mount) tied into an advanced Targeting Computer, plus each wing carries 4 Heavy Machine Guns with 200 rounds between them. Five tons of fuel are carried in its primary fuel tanks, while a 5 ton internal bombay can carry even more modifiable ordinance, be it Arrow IV missiles, added fuel, bombs, whatever is needed. 15 double heat sinks help to keep it running cool, and 14.5 tons of Ferro Aluminum armor cover the Blod Orn's surface. Able to keep pace with the other heavy fighters of the Valhallen Space Navy, the Blod Orn is a favorite for pilots. It also has external wing pylons for even more ordinance or fuel. All in all, it can carry (internally and externally) up to 3 Arrow IV missiles safely (if my math is correct). Allowing it to deal massive amounts of capital scale damage in a one-shot push, all at extreme range. This of course, slows the Blod Orn down greatly until it fires them. Please note also, that since this is the most advanced fighter in the VSN, it is also VSTOL capable, allowing it to take off/land even when there is no runway prepared.

The Blod Orn (Blood Eagle) was named for the ancient Norse practice of tying an unlucky person to a post or tree, and opening their back and ribs up slowly and carefully, leaving them alive in the process, and pulling the internal organs out. It was used as a threat of great harm historically. A bogeyman in many cases. In this case, as a warning. "Leave our territory or we will cause you great harm."

Here's the Warthog Infantry Support Craft. I got a picture from the Section 8 video game? Not sure. Found it on the interwebs when I looked at the google. :P

Meant to bring a light vehicle fully loaded with infantry inside, from orbit to ground, and offer suppression fire to assist in unloading them. It can throw lots of laser and AC fire in front, less to hit the enemy and more to force them to keep their heads down while it unloads its cargo. It is VTOL capable for ease of insertion/extraction. It was crafted to look as intimidating as possible.

Here's the second newest fighter in the Valhallen Navy, and the newest light fighter. The Hala. Fast, long reach, endurance, this little baby has it all. Not too bad of a price tag either. Once again, built for long patrols in the outer reaches of the Nation's borders, it was given large fuel tanks and an energy weapon arsenal. Pilots enjoy the maneuverability, however techs don't enjoy the tight confines of the interior, which make getting to certain components troublesome. When there is a parade or large celebration, these have been making more frequent appearances, not displacing the Spjut just yet... but definitely looks like it may be on the horizon.

As the Valhallens have recently made the decision to make themselves known to the Inner Sphere (due to numerous foreign vessels stumbling into Valhallen Space at an unprecedented rate recently), the military buildup of late is to be expected. Although they are offering trade, and there is no plan to stop the "Viking Partys" from their traditional activity of traveling to the Inner Sphere disguised as mercenaries to bring back spoils of war, combat experience, news, and literally allow the young warriors to "get it out of their systems" so to speak.

Valhallens are confident at this point that they are far enough removed to stop most raids, and powerful enough to stop most campaigns of conquest, they feel it was best to reveal themselves instead of becoming some sort of periphery bogeyman who would inspire further investigation of their territories. It also allows them to reveal their outposts which they have seized from certain troublesome pirate bands where the RWR had once been. The populous of these planets have welcomed the Valhallens as a huge step up, and have been treated well by their new masters. They now enjoy the protection of Valhallen Militaries, public health care and education, regulated water and food, and many other benefits they would have never had being slaves to whatever rabble floated in to their star systems.

This next one was inspired by a conversation with Weirdo. It's meant as a proof of concept. However, when it all came together, I must say I was pretty pleased. 3 nose mounted Plasma Rifles, 1 Nose mounted Centurion Weapon System, and one tail mounted Centurion Weapon System. To stop tailgaiters. In fact, its tail armor is so heavy, it can "trick" an opponent in a dogfight into getting behind it, and then hit it with the Centurion WS just to watch them drop away so it can circle around for the kill. Not sure it's the best tactic, but it offers some options. I'm thinking Flamers can also wreak some havoc in situations like this. Still tinkering. Still tinkering. [brew]

I'm reposting my Monoceros to help me keep organized, and to show what the major population mover was in the Valhallen Exodus was.

The Monoceros was commisioned by the Star League for a sort of sinister use. It was "officially" referred to as the Monoceros Colony Ship. However, in top secret files it was referred to as the Monoceros Repurposing Ship, as part of the secret Colony Repurposing Corps. It did not create colonies... it stole them.

When the Star League had subdued undesirables, it was left, many times with a population that could be troublesome, to say the least. The SLDF came up with the solution to displace a large portion of the population from the Periphery right into the borders of the Inner Sphere, while moving those loyal to the Star League into the conquered territory. Those being removed from their homes in the subdued land were people of means. Generally land owners or politically in control. Those being put in their place were generally down on their luck or heavily in debt from the Inner Sphere. Usually one giant group from each Great House, plus the Terran Hegemony. Usually about 100,000 at a time. Although they were not overtly mistreated, they were not exactly treated well.

The Monoceros could carry 1,000 people from the Inner Sphere to the Periphery in relative comfort, even entire families could go. Upon arrival they would be given the property and positions of those they displaced. For the return trip, the Monoceros could be converted to carry even more "passengers" in less comfort (locked prison cells basically - although care was taken not to break up families with children) and as many as 1,400 passengers could be accommodated in this fashion. The large Marine contingent was used to help keep the passengers from getting any ideas of rowdiness or mutiny. It also helped to keep the peace during the transition process. The large, nose mounted NLAS-35 (which gives the Monoceros its name by the way) also helped this process along.

For my AU, the fleet of Monoceros numbering 100 craft, was fully loaded with people from the Rasalhague Military District in the Draconis Combine, and headed for the remnants of the Rim Worlds Republic. They were activated by sheer bureaucratic momentum when General Kerensky conquered and smashed that nation in his move to retake the Star League.

The fleet was manned by SLDF troops, and they got the call to leave the Inner Sphere with Kerensky, but were too late. They ended up leaving with what would later become the majority of the Vahallen population. Although I'm still working out the numbers, I know that just from the Warships, Jumpships, and Monoceros alone there were over 170,000 people. Not counting dropships, which can carry lots more, my Valhallen Exodus must have numbered slightly over 200,000 people.

==Overview:==
One of the cruelest moves that the old Star League made was displacing "rogue"
elements from the different Periphery Realms that caused trouble. Generally
feeling that killing citizens of these realms was unsavory and unacceptable,
they chose instead to move them by the thousands to new places, while putting
citizens of the Star League Great Houses in their place, as a ruling class.
These were answerable directly to Star League officials, and were offered
great power and freedom within the Periphery Realm they were immigrating to.
The reality however, was rarely like this. When the SLDF moved in to subdue a
Periphery Realm, they decided to keep it under control as much as possible in
the future. One solution they came up with was to take Periphery citizens of
wealth, or who owned property from their homes in the Periphery State, and
replace them with citizens of the Star League. These were usually desperate
people, bogged down by debt, or hard times. They would take over entire
estates within the Periphery State. There was an entire branch of the SLDF
military dedicated to this. It was called the Colony Repurpose Corps.

The Monoceros is the evolution of this train of thought. Named after the
Constellation which means "Unicorn" due to its one gigantic NLAS-35 in the
nose section, the Monoceros was not truly a combat warship, but more of a
colony ships that did double duty as a prison ship, and was simply meant to
facilitate the displacement of populations. It did not build colonies... it
stole them.

It was capable of carrying 1,000 people over vast distances, plus supplies
they would need to establish themselves. It was well defended against pirates
and guerilla fighters of all sorts, while its nose mounted NLAS-35 could
demonstrate warship firepower to those on the ground, or blast holes right
through jumpships and dropships that got in its way. It did have more
practicale purposes like "terraforming" new features into the earth below if
needed as well.

*The following plays into my AU:

when the SLDF Admiralty had begun subduing the Rim Worlds Republic, it had
many planets suddenly under its control, although for a very short amount of
time. Due to pure beauracratic momentum, the Admiralty signed the orders o
move in with their fleet of Monoceros Colony Repurpose Corps. By the time they
had made all of the preperations, the fleet of almost 100 Monoceros' got word
that Kerensky had fled the Inner Sphere and it was common knowledge that the
Star League was about to totally crumble. A quick vote was taken on their way
to the remains of the RWR, and they decided to atempt to hook up with
Kerensky's fleet. They however missed them, and instead joined the Valhallan
Exodus. Most of the citizenry onboard this particular group were from the
Rasalhague Military District.

The Panacea is an SLDF class Hospital Ship. It can carry over 6,000 passengers. It was inspired by the Kuritan Fuku-Rui Class Transport much like they were inspired to make the Carrack Class Transport from the Lyran Sylvestor. It is unarmed and follows all rules for Hospital Ships. It can carry 4 dropships and 24 small craft. Most of these are rescue/ambulance craft. It carries enough spare cargo and fuel to assist in almost any rescue or humanitarian mission it could be given. The rest should be in the fluff :)

==Overview:==
The Panacea Class Hospital Ships were commissioned by the Star League and were
extremely successful during the Age of War. They were completely unarmed and
given all rights of safe passage Hospital Ship rules of warfare granted by
the
1907 Hague Convention.

They were capable of carrying more than 2,000 passengers who could be cared
for from everything from first aid to advanced burn care and therapy.

They were capable of carrying 4 dropships (usually hospital droppers) and 24
small craft (reserved also for non-combat ships for the most part) although
they had enough room to take on damaged and limping craft who need their
assistance. The Panacea also had 4,000 tons of fuel it could use to assist
stranded craft who were low on fuel, which could be refueled by the Panacea's
refueling drogues without ever needing to dock. 16,000 tons of supplies could
be carried on board as well for humanitarian missions.

During the Amaris Civil War, the Panacea were almost completely wiped out, as
Rim Worlds forces were under orders to destroy or capture any Star League
vessels they came across. Although the Star League warships were difficult
targets for the Rim Worlds naval assets, the unarmed and lightly armored
Panacea were defenseless and usually never even saw the attack coming.
Thousands of non-combatants lost their lives on these vessels.

After the Civil War only *one known Panacea was known to still be operational
(a handful were salvageable, but inoperable), but it disappeared shortly
before Kerensky's famous Exodus with the bulk of the SLDF. Vessel designation
SLS "Therapia".

During the transitional time during which the Free Rasalhague Republic had
become a new and independent nation, and ensuing Ronin Wars, the FRR Admiralty
was given, by anonymous donor, an in tact and operational Panacea, with a
fresh new FRR "Red Hammer" emergency services paint job! The FRR still
maintains this Panacea (which is considered to be in perfect working order)
and has renamed it the "Recovery".

Shortly after the Ronin Wars ended, the FRR Admiralty wished strongly to
develop a true navy, but feeling that their resources were best spent doing
what they know, chose to commission a totally new Hospital Ship design based
upon what they had learned from the Recovery. Since nobody in the Inner Sphere
at that time could build compact core Jumpships, and standard jumpships could
carry so few passengers and cargo, it was decided to build hospital dropships
instead. The Panacea then directly led to the successful Eir Hopsital Class
Ships, and the FRR built over 30 of them before the Clan Invasion.

The Recovery and fleet of Eir Hospital Ships were responsible for saving the
lives of thousands of FRR citizens who were either wounded or refugees. Even a
few Clan warriors were rescued this way in accordance with the Hague
Convention, predominantly after the routing of the Dire Wolf over Radstadt in
October of 3050 by Tyra Miraborg and her Flying Drakons. Hundreds of Clan
crewmen were pulled from the vacuum in their escape pods and rescued along
side the FRR wounded and refugees of the day. This was also the first time
that the security personal on any FRR Hospital Ship had to use any kind of
force at all, mostly to keep the Clan wounded and rescued safe from its other
passengers. The Clan crewmen were returned to their Clans in accordance with
the Hague Convention as well as they were not prisoners of war, and the
Recovery was allowed to continue its rescue operation along with all of the
Eir and other assorted Hospital Ships until they felt they had gotten everyone
to safety.

*2 Panacea that had survived the Amaris Civil War had come over the world of
Skandia for refueling and resupply. They were planning on leaving with General
Kerensky on his Exodus. In the confusion of the time, they were actually
attacked by Kuritan forces who attempted to sieze or destroy them outright.
Several Fuku-Rui's were also in system on resupply as well, who came to the
defense of the Panacea's. The captians all being horrified that non-combat
ships were being attacked. This small floatilla made up the core fleet that
missed the Exodus with Kerensky, but fled the Inner Sphere to later become the
deep Periphery nation of Valhalla.

Yeah, it already breaks the rules by being under 100,000 tons. I may go down to 90,000 tons just for fun... but so much more to tweak. On the giant behemoths I never know what to do with all the mass... but on these little things it's so tight. I don't wanna!  :'(  hahaha

==Overview:==
The SAAB Draken FU-35 was originally intended as an aerospace fighter/bomber.
Designed by Star League engineers to assist in everything from carrying small
amounts of cargo, to extra fuel, to large bomb payloads, it developed into a
Small Craft, which more than doubled its original size. The naming convention
stuck, either out of hilarity or oversight. By the time they came to
production it was too late to change the name, and quite frankly, it did
exactly what its name implied to an enemy target. The FU2-35 is the primary
production model as of the fall of the Star League.

It's unfortunate letter/number identifier was simply do to the naming protocol
order that came up during the design process. Based off of the Swedish company
SAAB's famous Draken Aerospace Fighter line, it became the standard bomber of
the Star League, helping to subdue countless worlds, and crush the navies of
many Periphery Rogue States.

Mounted in the Nose and Aft are gattling turrets of 5 Small Pulse Lasers each.
These are not the heaviest hitting weapons, but are very accurate at short
rage, and allow the bomber to defend itself, especially in large formations
and with proper fighter escort.

The real weapon here was its ability to carry over 40 tons of ordinance
internally in bamb bays, and still mounted several external pylons in case
that paylaod wasn't deamed enough for some reason.

The armor is considered adequate, and the Small Pulse Lasers can pull double
duty as point defense for the larger capitol ships of the Star League Navy if
needed.


==Variants:==
No known variants of the SAAB FU2-35 Draken are known to exsist.

==Deployment==
The largest deployment of these was used when the RWR was crushed under the
heel of the Star Leagues might. Entire continents were razed in the fury and
destruction that ensued.

Over 2000 of these were deployed to the RWR alone. At least 800 took part in
the Liberation of Terra.

The Valhallens had several of these in their Exodus Fleet. They were an
integral part of operation Pirate Flush. The massive bamb bays were used to
great effect when the Valhallens loaded them with Arrow IV missiles and curb
stomped the pirates they had targeted. Since then, it was considered a
priority to build a handful of newer craft to augment the original squadrons
that came in the first place.

alright. I finally got the motivation to fix it. Thanks for pointing that out for me. The Longship is now a 90,000 ton warship. I think I like that better. :)

This next one is the Fuku-Rui. A transport that inspired two other craft. One, the successful and rare Panacea Hospital Ship commissioned by the SLDF and the other, the Slyvester Transport privately commissioned by a highly placed Lyran Nobel by the same name. This latter never enjoyed the success of it's ancestor, although it itself inspired the Carrack Transport which was highly successful in its own right.

==Overview:==
Shortly before the Lyrans tried their hand at Merchant Warships with the
ill-fated Sylvester, the Kuritans had already established a small fleet of
them, centered around their moderately successful Fuku-Rui, named for the
Japanese Lung/Dragon of good luck and fortune.

It was this success that the Lyrans had tried to capitalize on when they made
their a full 100,000 tons more and extremely more expensive. All the while the
fleet of Fuku-Rui's continued to successfully deliver cargo and passengers to
even the most dangerous reaches of space.

Part of the success of the design has to do with Kuritan culture. It carries
lots of passengers, who will pay handsomely for a "cruise". It also saved on
production costs by eliminating its dropship cargo to one, and delivering its
goods with a fleet of small craft. It is slightly faster than the Sylvester,
and can therefore make deliveries in less time as well. The owner of a
Fuku-Rui will often choose not to have a dropship assigned permanantly to this
craft, instead choosing to rent out the collar to high bidders.

Although it doesn't carry nearly as much cargo, it does carry extra fuel for
both sale and for its contingent of small craft, and the 40,000 ton payload
beats out most competition. Add to that the very large passenger capability
and the Fuku-Rui was such a successful design that the Star League based its
later Hopsital Ship Panacea Class on the design.

Standard armor protects the hull, and Naval Lasers are placed strategically
around the frame for protection from pirates and privateers looking to harm or
steal their cargo and passengers. A full 35 marines protect the ship both
while it is docked and while in space, and squads of 7 marines are regularly
deployed in the small craft when dealing with worlds of questionable safety,
they also protect the potential 2,000+ passengers that the Fuku-Rui can
ferry.

The last known Fuku-Rui in the Inner Sphere was destroyed in the second
Succession War by Davion warships, when it was escorting a cargo convoy to
supply military units somewhere in the Draconis March. Four left with the
Valhallen Exodus, when they happened to be in-system and came to the
assistance of 2 Panacea Hospital Ships that had been attacked by Kurita Naval
vessels. Once the crews realized that the Coordinator was willing to murder
unarmed non-combatants, they decided to leave with Kerensky... of course their
plans had to be changed once they lost contact with his fleet.

*The following is in regards to my AU creation:
A handful of both Panacea and Fuku-Rui left with the Valhalan Exodus shortly
after they lost contact with Kerensky, directly from Kuritan space. Reverse
engineering of these vessels allowed them to build upon their own original
fleet of Warships and Jumpsips, leading to leaps in their understanding of the
technology.

==Battle History:==
The only notable battle that the Fuku-Rui was in (other than skirmishes with
the occassional pirate band) was when it was discovered by the DCMS High
Command that SLDF Fleet Assets in Combine space were planning on rendezvouing
with General Kerensky with the intent to leave the Inner Sphere immediately
following the Amaris Civil War.

The DCMS commanders had given orders to fire on and "sieze or destroy" and
SLDF ship they encountered. 4 Fuku-Rui were in the same system when DCMS Naval
Vessels fired upon SLDF Panacea Hospital Ships and other SLDF non-combatants.
A Colony Jumper was even threatened as it had been filled with family of the
SLDF medical staff.

The Fuku-Rui in question were ordered by their captains to protect the
non-combatants at all costs. The DCMS had no Warships in system, and although
the Fuku-Rui are lightly armed by warship standards, their heroic actions
stopped the DCMS dropships and fighters from killing too many innocents that
day. The DCMS forces were destroyed or retreated and the original bulk of the
Vahallen Exodus was formed that same day. The "fleet" also included local SLDF
Special Forces, mostly consisting of LAMs, who had been sent there for repairs
and refits, some other assorted badly damaged warships, and lots of locals.
They would later meet with the fleet of Monoceros craft full of Draconic
Combine citizens from the Rasalhague Military District, and leave the Inner
Sphere entirely in their own direction when they failed to meet with
Kerensky's fleet. This was mostly due to being hounded by DCMS Navy and
consisting of the worst damaged, but still functional Capitol ships from the
SLDF.

==Deployment==
A small fleet of these were constructed during the golden age of the Star
League and they were generally deployed in groups of 3 to 5 for mutual
support, plus any accompanying jumpships. These were trading fleets and
passenger transports. they could be used for everything from prisoner
transfers, to people relocating to new worlds, to colony support, to even
moving refugees and wounded in large numbers. One notable case was documented
where a massive forest fire had broken out and thousands of firefighters were
transported to the planet to assist the locals in containing the blaze.

There are lots of Aerospace Fighters I really like. But easily, my all-time favorite, is the Sabre. 1st)it's one of the coolest looking fighters EVAR! Sleek, stylish, babe-magnate. 2nd) Every single Great House, Super Power, Minor Power, Pirate, Privateer Merchant Fleet, Clan (probably), Poor Noble, etc has one. This fighter gets around. I can pick pretty much any faction, and still have my beloved Sabre along for the ride. Naturally, when I finally started buying Aerospace Fighters from Ironwind Metals, it was the first (and so far ONLY) fighter I've bought. I'll get several more before I start collecting others too. Up to 4 (not much, I know. But my "economy" is pretty limited. Our dental plan sucks, and our health plan is heavily subsidized). But I figure I'll get between 4 and 8 more before I'm satisfied.

So here's the deal. I'm working on picking out mechs/fighters/infantry/vehicles for each Great House, The Free Rasalhague Republic, Comstar, and the Star League so that each one has at least a lance of Mechs, plus support. Paint schemes, unit affiliations, etc. Been doing this for a while now. A fun way to waste my limited time.

I think to start, each Lance will most likely have a pair of Sabre's as support (to start). Other more Faction Specific fighters will be added later. But Sabre's are a great start! What I want though is a separate flavor for each. Tech level can be right up to 3085 and may include anything. But if it's a little quirky it's more fun.

I'll start with the DCMS Sabre K: This thing is cheap! It can be built for just slightly more than the hundreds of years old original model, but does have a few modern upgrades; and thus, can be produced rapidly, and by the thousands. Approaching a planet and seeing 30 or more of these swarming around on patrols is not uncommon on many of the more populated Kuritan worlds. Armor plating was upgraded to Ferro-Aluminum and each medium laser was replaced with a small pulse. Simple and effective.

Now for the Lyran Sabre L: The Lyrans have never been sticklers when it comes to military spending. They also love showing off the newest technology, even if it's not the most efficient design to do it on. Therefore, when it came to redesigning the venerable Sabre, they chose the Light Fusion Engine as the power plant. The armor was slightly increased and Ferro-Aluminum was used. The weapons were all upgraded as well. 3 ER ML's in the nose and a small pulse laser in each wing make this a formidable opponent in short engagements.

Now the Capellan Sabre C: The Capellans don't have anything. There is a rumor going around the uneducated circles that this is because the Mighty House Liao takes it all. But loyal Capellans know it is because the damned Davions took it all. Thieves that they are! To reflect the tiny budget they have to work with here, I opted for an affordable design meant to hit as hard as possible and then run away...fast! Rocket Launchers and a Medium Laser make this possible. Standard heat sinks, armor, engine, and soft pliable  aluminum nuts and bolts were used to create this budget design. The paint is water soluble. This design has also been spotted in the Marion Hegemony and the Cercinian Federation replaced the nose Medium Laser with a Flamer.  >:D

Now for the Marik Sabre M: Oh how the citizens of the Free Worlds League love their missiles! They especially love when a ground unit lights up a target with a TAG laser for their Semi-Guided LRM's to home in on. The Marik Sabre uses this strategy and backs it up with top of the line, home grown, Marik ER Medium Lasers in each wing. The effect is quite um... effective.

Now the Davion Sabre D: House Davion loves AC's. Unfortunately, the Sabre is just too light to effectively mount even the lightest AC. Fortunately House Davion troops are also gargantuan fans of RCT's. As such, a fighter that can effectively support ground troops is highly desired as well. TherefVSTOL capability was made a priority. Who needs landing strips? (besides Lyran women, but that is for another thread on another webside). They also chose weapons that could strafe effectively, and made the armor slightly heavier. So in place of each medium laser a pulse laser was added. Overall, a nice plane for a fighter jock to zoom around in.

Now the Free Rasalhague Sabre F: The FRR Kungsarme has had lots of outside help. From Comstar, to the Federated Commonwealth (and each respective House post civil war), to House Kurita, and even lately Clan Ghost Bear. They have very few worlds to garrison, and a high level of technology available to them. As such, their Sabres are fairly advanced (much like the Davion and Marik versions). They have chosen a 2 pronged approach. Range and accuracy. The Nose mounted ER LL takes care of the first, while each wing mounts a Small Pulse Laser to cover the second. Theirs also has the heaviest armor of all of the variants.

Finally the Star League Sabre SL: The Star League had all the money in the galaxy. They liked things fancy. They liked them effective. They liked them to look cool... and then they painted them olive drab just to throw people off. I mean seriously? Olive drab? Why not shiny jet black? Now that's a cool color when you control the universe! But we'll go back to being awesome. The Sabre SL is awesome! The engine was upgraded to an XL. The heat sinks are freezers. The wing weapons were replaced with Small Pulse Lasers for accuracy (seeing a pattern here?) and the nose medium laser was multiplied by 5 into a nasty medium laser gattling monstrosity. The armor was slightly reduced but replaced with Ferro-Aluminum while the fuel tank was enlarged a little. Overall a seriously bad arsed design.

This next one is meant to be just for fun. Although it would be interesting to try and employ somehow. It's got some odd capabilities, which it takes its name from. 3 Plasma Rifles, one in the Nose, one in each wing. A three barreled ER Medium Laser gattling thingy also in the nose, and a Small Pulse Laser in each wing forward and aft for point defense, accurate fire, and less destructive anti-infantry support while it hovers to drop its ENTIRE PLATOON of jump capable infantry. Yes. I said "hovers". I was also picturing someone in a bikini, but that isn't part of the discussion.

As I said, I'm really not sure what to do with this. It's a lot of fun and a very interesting design, the more I mess with it. There are benefits to making it both a small craft and an aerospace fighter, so I'll be posting both.

==Capabilities:==
The Fire Phoenix is an interesting design. Engineers had been working on a
system to move more of the militaries battle armor around a solar system,
specifically from planetside to jump point or the other way for a while. Due
to resources being moved to other areas (specifically newer LAM designs) it
was tabled for a while.

Then one of the Listening Planets was "discovered" by an Inner Sphere
jumpship. They refused to stand down and were borded and the survivng crew was
captured, along with loads of new gear.

Many of the prisoners comitted suicide. They were tough and had extensive
cyber enhancements. The zealots were terrifying, but were outgunned and
outmatched by the Valhallen Forces in system.

One thing became immediately apparent however. As the battle unfolded,
dropships from the jumpship disembarked, and flew to ground rapidly unloading
their cyber-powered armor. Although the native Valhallen Infantry was
eventually able to deal with them, and the LAMs were able to move small numers
of troops around where they were needed, something that could move more at a
time, and offer meaningful support was needed.

So the old project was reopened and code named "Phoenix" as new life was
breathed into it. Some of the new weapons were reverse engineered, and the
Plasma Rifle was added to the craft's arsenal, eventually giving it the
moniker "Fire Phoenix".

It is VTOL Capable, can carry 6 Power Armored Marines anywhere in a system. It
is heavily armed and armored. It can lay down massive amounts of suppresion
fire. It's fast, and even carries a limited payload. The primary drawbacks are
the tiny crew quarters. Only 4 tons each. But they are not meant to be the
kind of thing that crew live in for long periods, so this was considered
acceptible.

Here's sort of a fun one. It's an "advanced" Star Dagger, using only introtech. Overall a much more efficient and potent design. The weapons were kept similar, but optimized a bit, for greater punch. The Armor was upgrade, speed increased, and deep fuel tanks were retained (6 tons) for those long patrols.

This fighter is meant as a patrol craft, on the outer reaches of a system, before returning to its dropship/jumpship base. It does have added punch, with a 5 barreled Small Laser in the nose, and a pair of machine guns in each wing, and a small laser in the aft. It can move fairly fast, even keeping pace with many more modern fighters.

As for stats, it goes 9/14. 6 tons of fuel. 6 tons of armor. Can deal out a total of 4 capital damage if it does find itself engaging larger craft. All of its weapons are short ranged, which can be a serious handicap, but for its primary mission of being an affordable patrol craft, this is great. It's cheap both in C-Bills and in BV. If I were to upgrade it, I would go with small pulse lasers primarily. Similar firepower, but much more accurate.

50 tons maybe, with minimal internal weapons, call it LBX-10 and 2 tons of ammo, two SPLs...fusion so plenty of HS to start really, but if yo go purely conventional...hmmm...19.5 tons of weapons, I would "back it down" to only a RAC2 though, with a single ton of ammo, since it should bomb and bust ass for home really. Oh, and VTOL, second crewman as gunner...this does get complicated. Especially if you want stealth armor and ECM to give it a fighting chance of actually getting to drop bombs...

haha, I've not had a chance to get to this yet today. Been busy campaigning for the President. Getting the kids to their activities. Etc. But what little I was able to work in it, I went with a standard AC/5. 40 tons. And "bomb shaped" RL/10 launchers, lol. That turbine engine sucks to get any decent speed with. So it was 4/6. I like the idea of stealth armor! But it sure can't hold much :(

I really wish I knew. I just did a web search for "spacecraft science fiction" and it was one that showed up. My browser would load the page it was from, but when I clicked "show full image" it gave me that. I know it's from a famous artist of science fiction books, but don't know who. :(

Just trying to update a little here on my thread. The first one I'll post after all this time is my Chippewa II. A design based off of the old standby. Like its predecessor, it has light armor and heavier weapons than a fighter of its size, while also being faster. In the Chippewa II though, the armor was reinforced slightly, the speed pushed up even more, and the weapons concentrated for a much better effect. This beauty can dish out 11 capital damage from its front arc alone without heat issues, and a squadron can deal a whopping 59! The drawbacks are that to achieve this, the weapons are all medium and short ranged, and the armor is still very thin. But with proper fighter cover and deployment, these can effectively wipe out enemy capital ships in a matter of seconds. For added fun, deploy with a full load of Air to Air missiles on the wing mounts.

==Overview:==
The Chippewa II is a creation of the Valhallen Space Navy. One thing they
realized quickly with the interaction with other navies was that theirs was
sorely short of heavy aerospace fighters. This flaw was aleviated with the
upgrade, although it still only carries medium fighter level armor. The
firepower is outstanding however.

A couple squadrons of these can easily blast through even warship grade armor
in a matter of seconds. Although they generally need other fighter cover to
absorb shots from enemy capital ships.

The trick was focusing each arc for maximum combined firepower. Therefore a
quintet of ER Medium Lasers is nose mounted like a gattling gun, a trio of
Streak-6's is in each wing, and another quintet of highly accurate Small Pulse
Lasers is aft mounted to keep tailgaiters off their 6.

The speed was increased from the older model, bringing their speed camparable
to much smaller fighters like the Corsair.

==Capabilities:==
In game terms, this baby can hit for 11 Aerotech/Battlespace damage
individually. A squadron can hit for a whopping 59 damage! The tail carries a
hyperaccurate cluster of small pulse lasers as well.

Flaws: Although the armor is very light typically for such a heavy fighter, it
is based off of the original Chippewa which has even lighter armor.

Pros: Faster and with slightly heavier armor than the original, plus
phenominal firepower, rivaling that of even some dropships.

Pilots tend to enjoy flying these, although without their own fighter cover,
and carrying only medium to short ranged weapons, they tend to struggle in
dogfights an closing with capital ships. Although with other fighters in the
air, a squadron of these can make very short work of much larger craft once in
range.

If the wong mounts are loaded with ARROW IV or heavy air to air missiles, this
becomes even less of an issue.

Thanks. I really liked the history and the look of the Star Dagger, but wanted something not so primitive. Not a bad idea using it as an escort with its AMS capabilities. I like that.

I don't know how to link to his thread, but this was completely inspired by Liam's Ghost thread on his little Whitestreak Fighters. Such fun!!!

Here's my own ultra-light Aerospace Fighter design, but for the Succession Wars Era.

Yuri X-15 Aerospace Defense Interceptor: The Star League had commissioned for ultra-light aerospace fighter designs previous to the Amaris Coupe, for planetary militias. Named by an amateur historian and aerospace engineer who got some details confused about early space-age aircraft, the Yuri X-15 LOOKS very similar to the original X-15 from the 1950's and 1960's of Earth's pre-space flight era.

 The thought process, was to produce thousands of them to grant to planets important enough to need dozens to hundreds of aerospace fighters defending them, while not blowing their wad of cash on a handful of fighters to relatively green pilots who would just get their rides shot down and or stolen. To top it off, the Star League Defense Force had a small but powerful lobby that was pushing for a more "space/air superiority" doctrine.

The plan was actually 3-fold. By producing and outfitting thousands of these across the Sphere in a defensive position, they could affordably put significant, yet expendable defenses into important planetary hands. They could also send these as escorts for the planned expansion of the LAM Program. LAMs did very well in their intended role of hit and fade missions targeting primarily ground based/static targets. They did well against armor and infantry as well, and were moderate (though it was thought it could improve) against battlemech forces. It was in the sky that they tended to get their aluminum asses shot to bits. However, a special Carrier Class Jumpship/Dropship design was in the works, that would ONLY carry these ultra-light fighters. It could therefore carry literally dozens more than a standard Dropship/Jumpship Carrier normally could. The thinking was that they could overwhelm an opponent through sheer numbers. The third and last part of the plan was that undoubtedly Aces and veterans would come from these ranks who could be promoted to better positions within the SLDF.

The initial designs were tested and approved for production, but the Civil War had begun by this point. Planets licensed to manufacture them began full scale production, and therefore The Cappellan Confederation, The Outworld's Alliance, and The Magistry of Canopus had thousands in service by the time of the First Succession War. Some were sold to allies and other buyers. Mercs tended to shy away from them, though they were extremely affordable. Predominantly it was the Periphery States that bought up entire production runs.

Overall, they were a shining example of success. While fairly non-threatening alone or even in squadrons, it was once you had to deal with them on the Wing level that things could rapidly get out of hand for an invading force. The Outworld's Alliance specifially and repeatedly defended their territories with large numbers of the Yuri X-15. While a handful of 1st Succession War LAMs were escorted by these, the majority were kept for defensive roles, and LAMs were slagged by attrition. Losses to the number of Yuris not only never outpaced production or pilot volunteer numbers, but fell far behind. There is a certain level of prestige that goes with piloting one on the planets in which they are common. Sharp uniforms, steady paychecks, a love-life full of potential suiters, action and adventure are all part of the deal. A pilot who survives has real bragging rights.

Capabilities: Built only with materials available to SW Era production technology, as no Royal Variants or upgrades were ever initially planned, they are light, cheap, fast, and basic.

1 Small Laser mounted in the nose. Point the nose and shoot. So easy even a rookie can do it.

1/2 Ton of Standard Armor Plating does its best to cover the frame, though it protects mostly from small dings and minor ground based collisions with heavy equipments than from anything else, though it can stop limited small arms fire.

A Standard Fussion Engine, which can propel the fighter to speeds most every other thing a pilot could encounter, in the dust. These things are a real kick in the pants. A thrill to fly, if nothing else.

1 Ton internal Fuel Tank, though it is hardly ever spotted withought an addition 1 ton external fuel tank for added endurance.

Small Cockpit: A compact and tight cockpit which leaves very little room for comfort, yet surprisingly protects the pilot from being battered around very well. It fits like a glove, or cocoon, and if it doesn't explode and kill the pilot instantly, crashes, collisions, and rough bumps tend to leave the pilot bruised but not broken.

Post Jihad: There has been some tinkering with updating the design, however, having 1) not much mass to work with and 2) it can skew the budget for them, little has been done. There are prototypes that mount ER Small Lasers in the nose, yet they offer no noticeable improvement in any area while increasing the cost. Though some pilots seem to take further pride in mounting "advanced weapons". One field refit managed to get a load of Micro Pulse Lasers from somewhere, and mounted them onto their Wing Aces. This did improve their fighting a bit. Other prototypes replace the standard armor with Reflective or Ferro Aluminum types. And the most expensive prototypes upgrade the engine to XL, but all of these take away from affordability, which means a buyer cannot field as many, which is where its real strength lies.

Right??? It also seems pretty viable when you think about the logistics of them. With aerotech ranges and the way damage is figured... lots of people ready and willing to hop into a cockpit. Like 1950's space program style.

As I posted it, my computer or the internet or something conspired against me to delete the entire thing. So I quickly just posted it, as I knew I would be away from the internet for a while, and had other things to get done.
 I will attempt to redo what I had previously started.


The Bayonet, is a renamed and reworked old favorite of mine. Originally I called it the Shuriken. This obviously needed to be changed. Keeping with the "bladed weapon" theme, I chose Bayonet for a couple reasons. First and foremost, it hadn't been used yet. SUPER IMPORTANT! LOL. Second, a Bayonet is traditionally in front of the primary weapon of an army. The rifle. My fighters are the epitome of this ideology. While a bayonet on a rifle is used AFTER the rifle has fired, usually... the fighter Bayonet is used first.


To begin, the cost had to be cheap. Originally designed in the mid 90's shortly after both the Battlespace rules AND the campaign rules from ... Tactical Operations? Had come out, some friends and I decided it would be fun to have gigantic, multi-weekend campaigns, where we designed our own forces, and smashed each other for fun.

Generally around the 1 million Battle Value limit, we had to consider logistics, forces, reinforcements, base building, battleground and air superiority.

My opponents (great guys who I miss dearly) played Clans while I love my Inner Sphere. There remain very few ways in which an Inner Sphere piece of gear can keep up individually with anything of Clan origin. Multiplied back then. I chose quantity and efficiency over quality. As a fan-boy of Comstar, I decided to base most of my forces on the Tukkayyid ideals of overwhelming my Clan opponents and then wearing them down through attrition. I primarily used energy weapons, numbers, I played the bureaucrat game by manipulating my designs to be the most effective BV-wise that I could. My logistics were always stronger than theirs, and my reinforcement pool was fat and adaptable. In this way, I could generally choose which battles to win and which to retreat from to punish their own low-point and neglected logistics pools.


This brings us back to my newly named Bayonet fighter.


This would be my primary air-superiority aerospace fighter. Knowing their propensity for 100 ton designs, I chose light, fast, and cheap. 25 tons wasn't decided on a whim. In the older rules, a fighter could strafe for 5 hexes, and carpet bomb for 5 hexes. A fighter could carry 1 bomb per every 5 tons it weighed. With this in mind, the cheapest, most efficient fighter I could field en masse was the 25 tonner. It therefore needed to also be fast enough that carrying those 5 bombs wouldn't debilitate it's speed too much. 9 safe 14 flank thrust was decided on.


I needed enough armor to guard it in squadron formations, but individually was fragile. Again, playing the numbers games. This forced significant portions of their fighters to focus on my speedy little Bayonets to be peeled away from protecting their warships and other capital-ship space assets. Which in-turn allowed my much smaller force of much harder hitting anti-capital ship aerospace fighters to move in for the kill.


Originally, my fighters had 1 Medium Pulse Laser in each wing. The updated version drops to 2 Variable Speed Pulse Lasers. 1 in each wing, further tied to an advanced Targeting Computer. This divided its damage output (rounded to 1) into 2 separate firing arcs, effectively doubling its damage. It also allowed it the greatest possible amount of firing arcs, while still allowing it to focus those arc directly into its front...allowing for previously discussed strafing runs. With the upgraded lasers and computers, it can strafe extremely accurately. Giving a total of -4 bonus, I BELIEVE (I'm doing this from 20+ year memory) an adjusted net -1 bonus to strafe everything in a 5 hex row. Dealing 10 points per fighter, and as also stated previously (my predilection for Comstar formations) up to 60 per Level 2/Squadron of these little buggers. to a potential 5 targets... all to their punch locations. These guys were devastating and nearly impossible to dodge.


Though the first run was potentially even more devastating with the carpet-bombing run of 6 fighters, all armed with 5 cluster bombs. Cluster Bombs had overlap. I imagine the rules have been updated since, and nerfed a little. But back then, it was a glory to behold as one friend in-particular loved marching his mechs in giant lines the were nice marching walls, yes...but wonderful targets for my own tactics.

If you'll note, the fuel capacity is fairly deep. Though it lost a ton from the original due to the addition of the Targeting Computer. I wanted my fighters to be the last on the map, and they were every time I chose to win an engagement. Losses were high. But at only a current 407 BV, and I believe a little less back then, I could swarm my opponents and not cut too deeply into my total BV-Pool. Think of the TIE Fighter approach.

I hope you enjoy my design and can appreciate the thought and love that went into not only the original, but the updated version. Yes, it catered to my needs against specific opponents...but isn't that what warfare is about? Thank you!
