Primer and temperature
« on: 24 January 2015, 02:31:05 »
I'm wondering what is the lowest temperature tolerable to spray primer outdoor?
Actually here where I lived in the hottest hours the temperature may rise 7/9C°.
Do you think it can work or would be better if I do it at home?

It depends upon the primer. The can will say what the temperature range is. The primers I use have a lower end of about 12C. 15C to 25C seems to be the prefered range. But again, each spray primer is different.

I have primed miniatures in sub-freezing temperatures, but when I do, I bring the miniatures inside to dry right after spraying on a coat of primer. I also make sure that the spray can is at room temperature before I head outside to spray.

I find that high humidity is usually a bigger problem for me than low temperatures.

(I'm not saying that this is good practice, but it has worked for me.)

Same here.  Walk out, spray, bring it all back inside to dry.

On cold days (rarely drops below 0C/32F here) I just keep the spraycan under my armpit for 20 minutes or so, turning occasionally. (Work area is the unheated mancave)
