Plasma rifles are noted as type AI - burst weapons. However, they don't have an entry on p217, TW, burst fire weapon damage vs conventional infantry. I assume  +2d6 from their description on page 140 applies to an attack on conventional infantry, but does the base 10 point attack do so or not?
One reading of the rules suggests that no, you just do one point, and since the table doesn't have plasma rifle on it, that's it. The footnote for non-infantry weapon damage against infantry for "heat-effect" weapons doesn't clarify particularly, since the PR is not a non-infantry weapon!

Yes, KF drive vessels, assuming they survive the atmospher[ic reentry] (they take 100 points of damage per hex per turn of velocity in the atmosphere), do tend to use an aggressive lithobraking method for landing.

Follow-up: how much damage does a plasma rifle do to TW mech infantry?

Apologies : there was some confusion over this.  I have deleted any other thread on the topic in the interests of making sure there are no contradictory answers floating about.  The following addresses how plasma weapons are meant to work:

Errata required:
p. 139: under Plasma Weapons.  Add the following new section to the bottom of the entry:

Conventional infantry: Against infantry, the damage dealt by plasma weapons (both the base damage, if any, as well as any variable damage rolled) is not reduced due to the weapon's Type. For example, even though it is a Direct Energy weapon, a Plasma Rifle hit deals its full 10+2D6 damage.

p. 303, 304: Remove AI from both the Plasma Rifle and Plasma Cannon entries.

This would mean that a plasma cannon will kill 3d6 troopers, and a rifle will kill 10+2D6 troopers, before any other modifiers are taken into account.
