Second Campaign Battle

I bring to you another great detailed Battletech Battle Report for your reading and viewing pleasure. This report details the second portion battle about a few days after the first battle mentioned http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,33744.0.html. This battle report is seriously over due, so lease enjoy.

The story so far

Lydon's lance successfully pushed back the pirate battlemechs from the mining operations. Lydon took what time he had to question the captured Wasp pilot once he had received medical care from a previous battlemech head hit. While Lydon and Jave questioned the Wasp pilot, Klive was deployed during the night for a reconnaissance mission. While Lydon and Jave's questioning of the Wasp pilot proved fruitless, Klive was successful in locating more battlemech units. Klive used his high level sensors operations skills to locate a lance of battlemechs while masking himself from detection. While masked Klive tapped into the enemy' communications and gained valuable intelligence before returning to base operations for the night.

Lydon and his lance went over all of the intelligence Klive gathered together quickly. Lydon came to the conclusion the new lance of battlemechs could possibly be a command lance. Lydon reported in to his superior officer. Company command considered the intelligence noted thus far including the units Lydon had fought. Company command suspected the pirate force was no more in size than a company and no higher in weight class than light. With this information added to reconnaissance reports from KA.M01 and KA.M02 so far were clear, company command ordered Lydon's lance into offensive actions.

All of Lydon's assigned battlemech assets were repaired. One of the Wolverine's medium lasers was producing extra heat. Lydon also discovered on his rounds on the dropship were two aerospace fighters and two aerospace fighter pilots he had no knowledge of. Upon speaking with the dropship captain about the recently discovered assets, the captain calmly told him to speak with the company commander. Upon speaking with the company commander Lydon learned the aerospace assets where placed in Lydon's command in secret because of their pilots notorious inability to follow orders. With some help from Jave, Lydon hopefully might get the pilot's participation in the upcoming battle.

Battlemech assignment, Pilot experience level, and Skill set

All of the Pirate force Battlemech units were assigned by rolling against a random assignment table. The returning battlemechs were the same battlemech units minus any damged components repaired. Some pirate battlemech components were not repaired.

The majority of pilots in the pirate force were Green level experience, which I rolled on the green column of the Random Skills Table. The returning battlemechs had the same pilots. The Thunderbolt as lance leader/company commander was considered regular so I rolled for his skills on the regular column of the Random Skills Table instead.

I didn't consult Battle Value or tonnage.

Battle Report

Deployment

Turn 01

Initiative: FWL

The FWL heavy battlemechs moved at full speed along the far left towards the enemy base location flanked to the right by the FWL medium mechs moving at full jump distance.

Turn 02

Initiative: FWL

The FWL heavy battlemechs continued their push towards the enemy base at full speed.

Turn 03

Initiative:FWL

The FWL heavy battlmechs continued at full speed along the far left side of the mountain range while the FWL medium battlemechs reached the hidden safety of the mountain cliff edge.

The Pirate heavy battlemech lance moved from their storage spots to respond to the enemy threat. A Trebuchet took to the back route to cut off the adavnce of the FWL heavy battlemechs hopefully bottle necking them in. A rare spotted Crab battlemech sped out towards the cliff edge where the FWL medium battlemechs were safely hiding. A Thunderbolt pressed for the the middle of the mountain range to provide long range support followed by a Stinger ready to redeploy as necessary.

Turn 04

Initiative:FWL

The FWL heavy battlmechs continued at full speed along the far left side of the mountain range just as the Pirate Trebuchet continued its path down and around the mountain joined slightly by the Thunderbolt higher up to the left.

The Pirate Stinger jumped to redeploy by the Crab near a small patch of woods covering. The FWL battlemechs jumped up the mountain towards the relative level positions of the nearby Pirate battlemechs.

Fighting was light with the FWL medium battlemechs both engaging the enemy Crab with light amounts of firepower. The Wolverine's pilot scored an early head hit against the crab with his SRM6.

Turn 05

Initiative: FWL

The Trebuchet loosely supported by the Thunderbolt whose attention was to their left flank move into position to attack the Crusader. The FWL heavy battlemechs with the feeling of no guts no glory in challenge moved into the Trebuchet's firing lane.

The Crab backpedaled to better handle the aggressively approaching FWL medium battlemechs while the Stinger jumped to the safety of a tree line to the right of the Crab.

Combat opened with the Trebuchet and the Crusader both tossing LRMs at eachother with the Trebuchet getting the better salvos. The Rifleman helped up the damage on behalf of the Crusader with some well placed AC/5 firepower.

The Crab singed the Wolverine's center torso with a large laser. The Wolverine pilot showing no willingness to back down combined firepower with the Pheonix Hawk and blazed away at Crab dealing an impressive 46 damage combined between the two battlemechs. The Crab's right torso armor super heated to nothingness melting away a heat sink in the process and spread to the center torso damaging the engine forcing the Crab to run hotter.

The Stinger pilot's wise jump moment to the tree line saved it from swift kick from the Pheonix Hawk.

Turn 06

Initiative: PF

The Trebutchet stayed put while the Thunderbolt moved down the mountain to support. The FWL heavy mechs adjusted their position slightly to offer cover for the Rifleman keeping the Crusader in the open firing lane of the Trebuchet.

The Crab backpedaled again into the tree line behind it to protect its vulnerable right torso from completely collapsing. The Wolverine moved behind the Crab while the Pheonix Hawk ran after the Stinger trying to keep distance.

While the Pheonix Hawk and the Stinger traded MG fire the Wolverine took the chance to singed straight into the Stinger's center torso with his Medium lasers. Despite the nasty heated surprise, the Stinger's center torso armor held.

The Trebuchet again got a better LRM salvo against the Crusader even though the Crusader was more than capable of taking the LRM barrages. The Crusader's LRM salvo was pitiful versus the Trebuchet's, but an accompanied Medium laser helped burn through the Trebuchet right arm enough to damage the Medium laser help within. The Rifleman shined with luck as its twin AC/5 firepower shredded the Trebuchet's center torso armor enough to damage the center torso's internal structure. The Trebuchet pilot stood fast holding his battlemech on its feet throughout the enemy retrun fire. Before he knew it his Battlemech's internal warning systems took control and an accompanied blast ejected him from the cockpit being knocked unconscious as a result of it. The Trebuchet's left torso LRM ammo ignited, then exploding while erupting the entire battlemech into a huge ball of flame leaving nothing but molten blasted slag behind.

Battlemech destroyed!

The sudden sight of the Trebuchet's demise prompted the Thunderbolt to attack the Rifleman in return with Medium and Large laser fire which was floated to the right arm damaging the Rifleman's AC/5.

The FWL aerospace fighters emerged to add their own carnage to the battlefield. The Stingray made a high altitude bomb attack against the immobile Firestarter while the Riever dive bombed the immobile Assassin. The Stingray's bomb damaged the Firestarter's center torso while the Riever dive bomb attack severely damaged the Assassin. In all the Assassin suffered critical damage to the left leg damaging the left leg foot actuator, the right leg damaging the right leg lower leg actuator, and the left torso damaging two jump jets and in the end the Assassin with no pilot toppled to the ground crushing the left torso completely.

Turn 07

Initiative: FWL

The Crab speed away from the FWL medium battlemechs while the Stinger used jump movement  to keep a safe distance. The FWL medium battlemechs used the pursuit time to vent heat. The FWL heavy mechs advanced to scale the mountain against the Thunderbolt which moved wide in an attempt to box them in.

Most of the Thunderbolt's potential firepower was ruined by advancing allowing the FWL heavy battlemechs a small amount of AC/5 and Medium laser fire to rip and burn the Thunderbolt a bit. The small amount of firepower was enough to cause internal damage floating off and back to the center torso. The Thunderbolt pilot saw the engine warnings flash over and over twice notifyng him his battlemech will be running much hotter very early and throughout the rest of the battle.

Turn 08

Initiative: FWL

The Crab continued at full speed away from the FWL medium battlemechs while they ascended the mountain in the direction of the combating heavy battlemechs while the Stinger followed close behind. The FWL heavy battlemechs adjusted position for cover while facing the advancing Thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt's might produced a lousy Medium laser blast to the Rifleman's center torso when in turn it took a hail of ten SRMs from the Crusader and Large laser blast from the Rifleman. One SRM struck the head of the Thunderbolt knocking him slightly however all his concentration was for not and the Thunderbolt fell to the ground. The Thunderbolt falling did not harm the pilot nor did the head hit cause the pilot to lose consciousness.

The FWL medium battlemechs with no active targets in line of sight fired at the immobile Firestarter with a Large laser from each singing large amounts of armor off the battlemech.

Turn 09

Initiative: PF

The Thunderbolt pilot got his battlemech back on its feet and move slightly closer to the FWL heavy battlemechs as they did the same. The Crab continued at full speed around the mountain evading the FWL medium battlemechs which jumped to its front and rear arcs boxing it in. The pilots of the battlemechs damaged in the previous fight had finally started moving. All previously damaged Pirate battlemechs moved out with the exception of the Assassin which could not stand at the moment. The Locust speed towards the Thunderbolt at full speed trailed by the Stinger while the Firestarter and Hunchback took towards the direction of the Crab.

All the fast paced movement kept combat to a minimal amount. Combat was mostly held between the heavy battlemechs where the hot running Thunderbolt was quickly loosing the fight. The Thunderbolt was able to put a considerable amount of short range punishment on the Crusader, but the Crusader was able to deal the same amount back and mostly to the right side. The Rifleman's added firepower proved too much causing the Thunderbolt right arm to become completely useless. Despite the serious damage being dealt between sides, not a single heavy battlemech fell. The Crab and the Pheonix Hawk pilots both missed perfect shots at each others battlemech with their large lasers.

The FWL aerospace fighters showed again to add to the battlefield carnage. The Riever pilot intent on completely destroying the Assassin did just that and dropped another trio of bombs on the prone mech destroying it completely. The Stingray added to the benefit of the mechwarriors somewhat by attacking the Hunchback with twin Medium lasers and twin Large lasers. The Hunchback's armor was singed good, but in a show of force it was able to damage the Stingray slightly on its approach.

Turn 10

Initiative: PF

All movement was towards the same general area of the heavy battlemechs which were not moving at this point. The Crab was still in check by the FWL medium battlemechs. The Firestarter seemed to be taking the long way around the mountain while the Hunchback started to scale the mountain all in the direction of the heavy battlemechs.

All the fast paced moment around the mountain again kept combat to a minimal, but deadly amount. The Rifleman opened fire first on the Thunderbolt hoping to bring it to the ground and came close by shredding and singing almost all of the center torso armor off. The Locust had crept above the Rifleman enough to hit it with a Medium laser blast proving the ability to be a great pest and take some attention of the Thunderbolt. The Crusader followed up with the same previous close range punishment. The hail of SRMs were to much for the outer armor and much less for the internal armor to handle causing all sort of damage. The Thunderbolt was barely able to land a Medium laser blast in the barrage of firepower placed against it. The Thunderbolt pilot's internal systems flared showing the gyro took damage, he could not keep his battlemech upright and began to fall to the ground. Upon hitting the ground the pilot was fine, but his battlemech's systems were completely down. The Thunderbolt's engine's were struck twice more taking it out of the fight.

Battlemech destroyed!

Turn 11

Initiative: PF

All of the battlemechs were still gravitating to the lower mountain side. The Crab broke loose from the FWL medium battlemechs in order to challenge the FWL heavy battlemechs which adjust position to defy his challenge. The Locust and Stinger began to swarm the Rifleman as the Firestarter jumped to the Wolverine in hatred from the previous engagement.

Combat was minimal again with the Rifleman connecting a Large laser blast to the Locust singing off the entire left arm. The Crab's challenge failed suffered a small hail of SRMs from the Crusader blowing holes all across the left torso where critical damage was obtained then floating to the head. The Crab's head was struck with an SRM blowing sparks around the cockpit throwing alerts up for the pilot notating the first layer of life support and sensors were damaged.

The Wolverine and the Firestarter went at each other each attempting to rip and burn the other apart. The Wolverine anticipating the Firestarter's challenge kept cool and fire every weapon he had. The combination of laser and SRM firepower score considerable damage against the Firestarter's right torso, a head hit, and the destruction of the right arm. The Firestarter's jump movement to close in upset accuracy causing only light damage in return. However the Firestarter pilot kept his battlemech up while giving the Wolverine a swift return kick.

Turn 12

Initiative: PF

All battlemechs were closing in on their target in close range damage fest to gain superiority on the mountain side. The Rifleman continued to be swarmed by Pirate light battlemechs. The Crab focused attention to what it could while the Crusader moved into position to destroy it supported by the Phoenix Hawk. The Firestarter and Wolverine both kept their ground intent of destroying one another. The Hunchback's idea of ascending the mountain to offer range support was rapidly faltering removing him from the fight at a crucial time.

The Rifleman fought the swam of light battlemechs trading a medium laser blast with the Locust. The Phoenix Hawk helped the Rifleman by sending a medium laser to the Stinger's right arm singing the armor down melting to the machine gun within all the way to the hand actuator. The Firestarter succeeded in only doing the same damage to the Wolverine along with a flamer to help over heat the battlemech. The Wolverine casting heat aside used the same combination of laser and SRM firepower. The second dose of mixed firepower caused crippling across the Firestarter's chassis. The Firestarter's center torso took the most of the punishment at the cost of the engine being struck twice along with a flamer out of commission. The left leg gave way causing the battlemech to fall to the ground upon the left torso crushing a jump jet.

The Crab decided against attacking the FWL heavy battlemechs ad shot the Phoenix Hawk instead with its large laser. The Crab in turn took a swarm of nine SRMs from the Crusader. Even at close range the Crab gain some luck in his bad decisions as his armor was peppered all around the chassis doing no serious harm.

The battle turned physical with the Stinger kicking the Rifleman in the left leg while receiving a light punch to the left torso in return. The Crusader forgoing firing its medium laser lunged for the Crab's rear firing arc with both fists. The Crusader punched with its left arm at the Crab's rear left torso punching straight through the rear armor and into the internal armor where the Crusader hand actuators grabbed a hold of the battlemech's internal skeleton. With the Crusader's left arm holding the Crab's by the skeleton, the Crusader pilot was going to tear the stuffing of the Crab. The Crusader's pilot braced his battlemech's feet and threw his right arm into the Crab's rear right torso punching straight through the rear armor again. The Crusader pilot grasped what he could with his battlemech's hand actuator and pulled back sharply tearing out what he could keep hold of. Which a series of moaning and shrieking metal the entire right side of the Crab was torn from its chassis. Despite all the torment from he Crusader, the Crab help high on its feet.

Turn 13

Initiative: FWL

The Pirate forces outright refused to give up and continued what fights they could give. Pirate light battlemechs kept the pressure on the Rifleman which went prone and gained some support from the Phoenix Hawk while the nearby Crusader kept to the Crab. The Hunchback finally crested the top of the mountain and was met by the Wolverine leaving the Firestarter on the ground.

The Firestarter attempted to stand, but fell unto the left torso crushing the location.

With the Rifleman laying prone and protected from the light battlemech swarm tactic the Phoenix Hawk joined the Crusader to finish off and put the Crab down for good. Using a small hail storm of SRMs from the Crusader and laser and MG fire from the Phoenix Hawk they ravaged the Crab's internal armor and systems. The Crab pilot braced his battlemech for what was to come with nothing in return he felt as his battlemech's single medium laser became inoperable along with the destruction of both the engine and gyro. The Crab's systems shut down and what was left of the once active ancient relic fell to the ground.

Battlemech Destroyed!

Turn 14

Initiative: PF

The Rifleman stayed in the prone position while the Crusader moved up which caused the Pirate light battlemechs to moved away and up the mountainside out of their range. In response the Phoenix hawk gave chase and jumped after the the Pirate light battlemechs. The Hunchback and Wolverine each held their ground refusing to move.

The Stinger got some damage on the Phoenix Hawk while it got some damage on the Locust. The Wolverine shined using its dangerous laser and SRM combo to shred the Hunchback's right armor. The Hunchback pilot watch is warnings light up first with the right arm lower arm actuator damaged, then the shoulder damaged, and finally the entire right arm being inoperable. In response the Hunchback fired a trio of medium lasers with one singing the Wolverine's head armor knocking the pilot a bit.

The Phoenix Hawk kicked the Locust to limit mobility and managed to rupture a heat sink and damage the right leg foot actuator. The Wolverine also made a successful kick to the Hunchback which took the damage. The fast movement from the battlemech kick action proved too much for the Wolverine's pilot who blacked out unconscious.

Turn 15

Initiative: PF

In response to the Wolverine's pilot going unconscious various battlemechs switched positions. The Rifleman made a careful stand as the Crusader began to scale the mountain which prompted the Stinger to jump away from the Phoenix Hawk safely behind the Crusader and close enough to the Rifleman to attack. The Phoenix Hawk jumped away from the Pirate light battlemechs to challenge the Hunchback and protect the now vulnerable Wolverine. The Locust was able to gain some distance in order to reassess attack position and value.

The Stinger's chance to attack the Rifleman succeeded with a medium laser suffering no damage in return. The Phoenix Hawk doused the Hunchback in quick laser and MG fire smashing apart the LRM5 launcher in its right torso while suffering some laser fire in return. The Phoenix Hawk pilot's bold action to check the Hunchback kept the Wolverine from further harm.

The Wolverine pilot was unable to regain consciousness.

Turn 16

Initiative: PF

The Crusader continued to scale the mountain in order to draw a bead on the Locust and rain death on it with its LRMs. The Locust turned around to the Crusader acting as bait for the Stinger to attack the rear armor in unison. The Rifleman stayed put for the meantime waiting on the next direction to go. The Phoenix Hawk stayed toe to toe with Hunchback in order to protect his unconscious lance mate.

The Locust singed the Crusader with a medium laser as the Stinger missed with its medium laser only managing to graze the armor with a MG. The Crusader in return tossed SRMs at the Locust with a medium laser and only managed to damaged the right leg lower leg actuator.

The Hunchback  hammered the Phoenix Hawk with autocannon and laser firepower ripping and singing armor breaking the left arm MG and melting the through to the center torso floating back to the center torso damaging the gyro. The Phoenix Hawk pilot determined to stay ahead of the fight blasted the Hunchback with everything it could connecting all shots. Medium lasers singed through the right torso armor melting both the remaining LRM5 and AC/5, the MGs ripped all the way to the engine, and a large laser singed and melted more armor all the way to the engine. The Phoenix Hawk pilot kept his ground as he watched the Hunchback pilot in a red warning filled cockpit fall with his battlemech to the ground.

The Wolverine pilot gained consciousness to find the Hunchback at the feet of the Phoenix Hawk protecting him and his battlemech.

Turn 17

Initiative: FWL

The Hunchback pilot showed no sign of stopping and got his battlemech up while ordering the the light battlemechs to keep the pressure on the heavy battlemechs. The Rifleman began to scale the mountain as the light battlemechs moved back to its position prompting the Crusader to reverse course. The Wolverine was ordered to jump way to safety as the Phoenix Hawk stood keeping the Hunchback in check.

Tossing safety aside both the Locust and the Stinger damaged the Rifleman some more. Both Locust and Stinger took a large laser blast due to the extreme closeness of the engagement with the Stinger losing its right arm. The Hunchback and the Phoenix hawk traded medium laser blasts.

Both the Locust and the Stinger kicked the Rifleman in the right leg causing damage, but not enough to make the battlemech fall. The Rifleman having felt done with the swarm tactics which were slowly ripping away its armor kicked the Locust. The Rifleman watched as his battlemech's leg kiccked the leg of the Locust and continued up into the inards of the internal structure. The Locust pilot felt a wave of tremors as the Rifleman's leg smashed through the right leg past the right torso and into the engine and destroying the gyro buckling the center internal armor. When the Rifleman pilot pulled his battlemech's leg back the Locust fell to the ground and he smiled knowing the Locust had been thoroughly squashed.

Battlemech destroyed!

Turn 18

Initiative: FWL

The Hunchback losing his grip and not wanting to fall to the Phoenix Hawk ran to the edge of the mountain with the Wolverine speeding across the bottom of the mountain to cut off his escape. The Stinger pilot unsure what confused by the Hunchback pilot's orders jumped away slightly, but was caught by the heavy battlemechs.

With the Pirate forces mostly destroyed and the remnants attempting to flee, the Crusader pilot  ordered his lance to pursue and capture the remaining Pirate forces battlemechs and offer surrender only firing warning shots where applicable.

The Hunchback outright refused to surrender and traded medium laser blasts with the policing Phoenix Hawk.. The Stinger was ordered to fight and fired at the Rifleman lasnding more damage, but nothing significant. The Rifleman responded with autocannon fire straight in and through the Stinger's torso destroying the battlemech.

Battlemech destroyed!

Turn 19

Initiative:  FWL

The Rifleman captures the Stinger while the Phoenix haw fire a warning shot to the Hunchback which continues to refuse surrender.

Turn 20

Initiative: N/A

The FWL units offer surrender to the remaining Pirate forces. The Pirate forces consider what little options they have left from escape to a fight to the death and surrender to the FWl forces.

Thoughts

This battle report took forever to post seeing how the last report which was the first part was post back in 09/13.
Lydon's lance performed well and the aerospace units were hilarious.
Speaking of the aerospace pilots, they are unpredictable if they will show, be sober, or come back with a full payload of bombs.
The early engine damage to the Crab kind of ruined my plans and quickly collapsed my right flank.
The Thunderbolt, the Hunchback, and the Crab somewhat are both classic zombie mechs taking tremendous amount of punishment befor dieing.
The Trebuchet's ammo exploasion was much needed as it was keeping the fire at the same rate of the Crusader with each tearing eachother's armor off.
The Rifleman's pilot has issues keeping small pests mechs away a weakness the character will need to learn to deal with.
Their is more to come with Lydon's lance and  I have some more battle reports to post. Till next time enjoy and ask questions about the lance, characters, or the campaign.
This battle like the first battle had handicaps in place to protect the PC and NCP players somewhat to avoid dead and destruction to a point.
