♥ Aphrodite ♥ A love letter to the PPC Capacitor
« on: 14 February 2018, 13:46:28 »
Aphrodite is a love letter to the PPC Capacitor.

4 light PPC's have their potential damage increased by 100%, and the normal
problem of dealing with heat flash is solved by a match made in heaven, the
radical heat sink.  The beauty of this marrage is that the Radical heat sink is
required only when firing a fully charged volley, so the radical is only needed
to be used every other turn at best, keeping it safe from the normal breakdown
chance.

The possible excess heat that can be generated calls to TSM to boost ground
speed, and provide the nasty suprise of a TSM backed double punch to those who
think to get within the minimum rang of the PPC's.

To complement, a TC to allow all 4 hits to a single location, allowing a
fatal shot to the heart of many other battlemechs.

All this, with the peace of mind a slimer light engine can bring, and 12 tons
of form fitting, standard armor.

Despite the tech, I like to think of her as Canopian.

(Warning: Care and delicacy is required, abusing capacitors or Radical heat
sink may lead to spiteful death)

Okay, you can let out that 40 point burst at the start of the fight, but your average output is still only 20 damage a turn though. Unless there's been rules errata I don't know, PPC Capacitors don't charge independently of the weapon.

I think that's the idea - 40 points, then run into cover and recharge.

More like 40 damage every other turn and using the RHS on the firing turn to keep the heat down.
And if I'm reading the Cap entry in the BMM right, the weapon(s) that are attached to cap(s) can't be fired the turn you're charging them. So its a 0/40/0/40 damage cycle and a 20+move/40+move/20+move/40+move heat cycle. As long as you can keep the RHS working, at the most three overheat, if I understand the RHS system, isn't bad.

An interesting concept...

This is some quality max-minning.

Also if you need to run and fun you can charge half, fire the other half next turn. Not really optimal but hey if theirs no cover you might want to shoot something back.

And a mod for lesser tech units would swap for Large Lasers, a Medium Laser battery, or a handful of Small Lasers instead of capicators and the RHS. Course coupled with a boatload of extra heat sinks.

Either way nicely done.

Definitely a neat idea, but it really requires a perfect situation to really be worth it.

Consider that you can ditch the RHS and current armament for one HPPC and 2 LPPCs and get 25 points every round, no risk of explosion, and no risk of RHS failure - and save 3 tons at the same time...

It can get even crazier, and has been crazier in the past.  Long enough ago that I'm pretty sure this isn't even imitation, but still I'm flattered. 8)
I gotta say, the TC is what really makes it shine the way my old design never did.  It gets a maximum bang-for-the-buck out of it, which is pretty nice.
All that is born dies,
All that is planned fails,
All that is built crumbles,
But memories continue on,
And that is beautiful.

Also, using DHS means that the RHS works even more synergistically with standard PPCs + capacitors (RHS will add 50% to the heat capacity, and the capacitors add 50% to that burden as well, in addition to turning the PPCs into headcappers).
