PulsarOverview With the successful deployment of the Parash 3, it became time for the Society to create their own Interface 'Mech. To prevent a Sun Spider type development hell, it was decided to use a reference design with standard armor and structure. On basis of these criteria it was decided to use the Nova as the reference design for the new Omnimech.
The new Omnimech shares many traits with the Nova, the largest differences are the inclusion of the Interface cockpit, the removal of the gyro and pod mounting of the jump jets. The jump jets were removed from the base chassis to increase the number of propulsion options and to leave room for more heatsinks if necessary.
Capabilities The primary loadout is deadly simple, a Mechwarrior can just place a brick on the firing controls and approach the enemy until the enemy is dead. The name Pulsar was derived from the primary loadout as it can deliver large energy-based alpha strikes at regular intervals. As it closes to the target it will also function as a spotter for a Nova CEWS network. In cases where TAG-compatible munitions are available it can use its TAG to also designate targets.
Alternate-A is a fire-support loadout, with two ERPPCs and enough heat sinks to fire them. But it relies on Nova CEWS based spotters to be effective.
The Alt-B loadout is meant for Mechwarriors that are more experienced with the usage of jump jets. It mounts eight improved jump jets and is designed to be an accurate long-range harasser. In the right arm it mounts a Large Pulse Laser, the left arm features a LRM-15 launcher that has been augmented with Artemis V. A single Flamer is mounted for discouraging infantry.
Alternate-C is more of a traditional loadout and is heavily based upon the Nova H. However the loadout uses a Nova CEWS and improved versions of the Heavy Medium Lasers. Normally such large number of Improved Heavy Lasers would be avoided to prevent death from a cascade explosion feedback, but the Interface Cockpit prevents feedback damage.
The legacy of the Nova S can be seen in the Alt-D loadout, the largest differences here is that it replaced the ammunition-based systems with energy-based equivalents.
Alternate-E is an extreme loadout that is completely focused on utilizing Improved ATM technology. It mounts eight iATM-3 launchers, these are spread over the arms and the center torso. Six tons of ammunition provide enough missiles to effectively use these launchers.
Deployment The Pulsar is deployed in both Core fleets and with Mid facilities. On rare occasions it has been used in interventions, but in such cases it's true nature had been concealed using heavy-duty camouflage netting. No examples have been captured so far, but any deployment is accompanied with sufficient artillery to prevent salvage.
