Composition of Revenants' sprint companies
« on: 23 July 2012, 10:15:19 »
I'm working on some custom MegaMek scenarios based on the Revenants' missions during the Clan War.  After they were rebuilt, prior to the Teniente mission, the battalion was described in the following way (Stackpole, Lost Destiny, p. 150-151):

Quote
The unit was further divided into a fire support company, an assault company, and two fast-response "sprint" companies.  Victor's command lance was made up of swift 'Mechs, making it a complement of the sprint companies.

It's hard to see how to make sense of this.  We know two of the 'Mechs in Victor's command lance: his Daishi and Galen Cox's Crusader.  The Daishi is the opposite of "swift"; Victor's configuration doesn't even include jump jets.  Cox's Crusader is a 5M, though, which at least moves 4/6/4.

Now, there are two things one might conclude from this.  One, Stackpole is wrong and Victor's lance isn't fast enough to keep up with the sprint companies.  Two, the sprint companies are really heavy cavalry companies that move around 4/6/4 or 5/8/5, and so Cox's Crusader is representative of the kind of 'Mechs that these companies contain.

Option 2 makes the most sense to me, since the notion that a battalion composed of 50% Inner Sphere lights and fast mediums from 3050 could stand up against Clan firepower is pretty silly.  Heavy cavalry 'Mechs would have a better chance.  Anyone know of any sources with more info?  Informed conjectures?
