Loading ammo from ammo trailers, and calculating BV
« on: 30 March 2023, 18:35:26 »
Hi! I'm using a Paladin artillery tank, and planning on hitching a J-27 trailer on it for more ammo stowage. 2 Questions; 1, what are the rules for loading ammo from the trailer to the Paladin mid-game, and is that even possible?
And 2, is there an easy way to run the BV for the 8 tons of long-tom ammo loaded into the trailer?

Thanks!

These were in strategic ops but likely moved to campaign ops.
It can't really be done in game as even with a mech to transfer it into the magazine it would take roughly 5 minutes per ton if you had a dedicated technical team, even with an elite team its still 3 and that's if its at a dedicated depot, in the field its twice as long.

Since that is the case BV wouldn't really apply since you can't use it in the middle of the game, its just cargo until it goes into something that can shoot it.

Rules for loading ammo under fire are in Tactical Operations - Advanced Rules and supplement the cargo carrier rules in Total Warfare, and they are kind of long to summarize here. Essentially: 3 turns for every ton of ammo, with a chance to explode either from carelessness or any incoming fire, all units involved are considered immobile, the ammo carrier must be in the same hex or in the hex directly behind the unit being loaded, and you'll need a vehicle with lift hoists, infantry, or a mech with two hand actuators around to do the loading.
