(Answered) Tactical Experts - Combined Fire
« on: 12 June 2023, 12:48:02 »
“Entire formation” and “three or more”. My assumption is the entire formation must shoot at the same target unit and if that entire formation only consists of 2 or less units, it doesn’t get the benefit of Combined Fire. So, for a Comstar level 2 of 6 mechs to get the Combined Fire bonus of -1 all 6 mechs need to shoot at the same target.

My questions - Level 2, three of the six mechs shoot at and kill the target, do the remaining three mechs lose their combat oportunity for that turn or can they choose a different target? If they can choose a different target, do they get the -1 for Combined Fire as well.

Thanks.

They cannot chose another target.  So they would just "lose" their attack that turn.  Once an attack is resolved under a condition that affects the whole turn, it can't be undone during that turn.  Similar to a spotter and an indirect fire attack.  If you make the indirect fire attack without the spotter also attacked modifier, it's set that the spotter isn't attacking this turn.

In this case, if you make one attack under the condition that the whole formation is attacking that same target, you can't later have a unit in that formation attack a different target.  Alpha Strike doesn't have a separate fire declaration phase, but when declarations are made (entire formation is shooting at same target, spotter isn't attacking), they must be held to.
