Crashing Silence - Jade Falcons vs. Lyrans
« on: 17 December 2012, 23:06:42 »
Vicar’s Altar
Great X
Lyran Alliance
1 August 3071

By the time the calendar rolled to August, Hauptmann Guillaume
knew he couldn't put the final battle with the Jade Falcon Binary
off any longer. He'd managed to wring almost three months
out of them, giving him time to school his company in working
together. He'd kept them from damaging the still-populated
areas of Bastion by letting them trash all the abandoned depots
and storage areas they'd liked. And he'd bled them, spending the
Great X militia like semi-precious stones to keep them away from
his ’Mechs until he was ready. Gathering the company together
for the first time since they'd landed on Bastion, he prepared his
forces at Vicar’s Altar.

For the Falcons the engagement was the culmination of three
months of disappointment and distractions. Finally the Lyrans
were coming out to fight like warriors. Of all the Jade Falcons, only
Star Captain Ingried was disquieted by the apparent change in
strategy. He feared a trap or some other tactical surprise, but knew
he couldn't restrain his hotheaded Falcons any longer. The Binary
assembled and marched on Vicar’s Altar. One way or another,
it would end.

SPA's were used for both forces with the Lyrans getting the better to help balance out the forces.

Company C, Third 'Mech Battalion, Twenty-fifth Arcturan Guards RCT
Command Lance
Hauptmann Michael Guillaume 3/4, BLR-4S Battlemaster
Sergeant Erich von Seedow 4/5, Dervish
Sergeant Hans Ostgaard 4/5, GAL-1GLS Gallowglas
Anvil Lance
First Lieutenant Nadine von Riddenour 2/4, Mad Cat Mk. II
Sergeant Barrett Cole 4/5, AS7-K Atlas
Sergeant Christine Watkins 4/5, EMP-6A Emperor
Sergeant Arthur Quibble 4/5, RFL-8D Rifleman
Striker Lance
Lieutenant Reginald Hoffman 4/5, BGS-1T Barghest
Sergeant Victoria Ernestine 4/5, NXS2-A Nexus II
Sergeant Jasper Lorenz 4/5, WLF-2 Wolfhound
Sergeant Kristoff Semmes 4/5, STY-3C Starslayer

Both units move out. The Lyrans send Striker Lance and the 2/3rds of Command Lance up the middle with Striker lance and a lone Rifleman to cover the flanks. The Falcons spread out with the lightest units closing the distance quickly.

Star Captain Ingried challenges First Lieutenant Riddenour to a duel. Seeking a warriors death MechWarrior Callen Malthus moves in close for a back shot on the Sergeant Watkins Emperor only to find Hauptmann Guillaume's Battlemaster move in. Heavy fire is exchanged between Nova Cat and Mad Cat Mk II. With Lieutenant Riddenour suffering the worst and failing her PSR.

MechWarrior Callen Malthus gets his wish and dies under the guns of Hauptmann Guillaume's Battlemaster. MechWarrior Edward proves to be an elusive target in his Jenner IIC with both Sergeant Cole's Atlas and Sergeant Lorenz's Wolfhound unable to connect. Sergeant Cole receives a face full of SRM's for his troubles, while Sergeant Lorenz's gets his back shot up by the Grendel and Cougar causing a fall. The duel continues between Nova Cat and Mad Cat Mk II.

MechWarrior Edward continues to bounce around. MechWarrior Hayes Incubus and MechWarrior Allen's Ice Ferret slash through to the rear of the Lyran's lines.

MechWarrior Hayes closes with Sergeant Quibble who quickly spins up both RAC5's to full rate and obliterates the Incubus. While Sergeant Lorenz dies in a withering crossfire. MechWarrior Edward's luck finally runs out and he's brought down with leg damage.

The duel between Star Captain Ingried and First Lieutenant Riddenour continues but with her frontal armor in ruins she presents her rear armor and flips her arms to continue the fight. Sergeant Hans Ostgaard's Gallowglas takes an A/C 20 round to the head from Star Commander Nicola's Kodiak.

Realizing that Star Captain Ingried's Nova Cat still represents a serious threat Hauptmann Guillaume and Sergeant Cole combine fire with First Lieutenant Riddenour to bring it down.

The grizzled veteran Sergeant Cole finally succumbs to to the Kodiak with an ER medium Laser blasting through the remnants of his cockpit armor.

Combined fire from the MechWarrior Michaela's Cougar and Nicola's Kodiak finally bring down Riddenour's Mad Cat Mk II. The Lyrans have lost their two heaviest units in back to back turns in exchange for a Jenner IIC.

Things get ugly! Sergeant Quibble tries desperately to bring down the Kodiak. Unfortunately he jams on of his RAC 5's and suffers a tremendous counter attack which sends him crashing to the ground. The Nexus and Grendel take each other out and the Sergeant Semmes lines his Starslayer up to deliver a boot to the head of MechWarrior Allen's Ice Ferret.

Meanwhile Sergeant Watkins and MechWarrior Linders have been steadily beating on each other for the last 3 turns with Sergeant Watkins Emperor taking the worst of it (damn Heavy Lasers)! But the Mad Cat is crippled and MechWarriors Linders unconscious.

Still need to post the last few pictures...

In the end the 25th Arcturan Guards managed to squeak out a marginal victory but at a cost of 3/4 of their force.

Thanks again for organizing a great game, my daughter and I both had a great day.
It doesn't take long for men to make a decision. It's making a decision look smart that takes the time.
