Odd, 'cause there's got to be like 10-12 60's Skylarks in town, and probably twice that in Riveras.

Of course, all the Riveras are metallic painted, have hyraulics, and scrape the chassis on an anthill, but still...

My '07 RAM 1500 is riding on 20"s.
Tires are gonna cost a metric buttload of $$$.
so far I've seen an average of $168 EACH.
then +tax +mount,balance, etc...
I'm thinking it'll come to about $900 - $950.
(That's ALOT of fraking minis worth!)

any idea what is involved in swapping out for a wheel that can take a cheaper tire?

Don't ask me - my tires are 285/75/16 BF Goodrich All Terrain and the total cost is $1052

first, you're not gonna get a set of tires for less than 500 bucks unless they are used.  I just put a set of 13" on the boss' Metropolitan and they were over 500.  So if you can find a set of rims for less than 300, you're gonna pay about the same.

Also, the speedo gears are set for a certain tire size, so monkeying around with sizes can affect the accuracy.

My speedo has been off by 10% since day one and I can't fix it  :-[

My truck no longer uses a speedometer gear - the just count the pulses for the ABS to figure out speed

based on a certain size of tire.  if you change the diameter of the tire, you change the circumference of the tire.  which changes the distance the vehicle moves in 1 revolution, or speed.

Right so you are stuck with tire size.  Gear ratio no longer matters since it's counting the wheel vs. before it was using the speed of the driveshaft

I'm boggling at that, over $1000 for tires.  I can get the same size for $120 a tire from a local place that retreads used tires and despite abusing them through woods and wetlands I get over 30,000 miles out of them no trouble.

For me at least it's not worth the extra expense, I'm not going to get anywhere near 70,000 miles without leaving my tires in desperate need of replacement.  Combination of bad roads, frequent use off-roads in forests and construction sites where they tend to get chewed up or cut, etc.  I've actually considered getting an extra set of used skid-steer tires and foam-filling them just for off-road and construction site use to cut down on the tire replacements.

I got my hands on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi.  The Fusion was nice, but was so BORING.

True.  But it is nice find.  Supercharged, completely loaded, 11 years old, 65,500 miles?  ANd with trade I get a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty AND $1000?  I think I won that one.

Nice!

I've started a new job so the car work has slowed to the weekend.  I'm about to get the engine into the 63 Sport Fury

Very light tinny(not tiny) intermittent squeal emanating from the front of my Focus' engine.  The serpentine looks good, there is no obvious fluid leaks, so i'm down to either a bearing in a pump/alternator or a pulley is making the noise.  Any good ways to diagnose this?  I do have access to a lift next weekend.

Does it have an idler or tensioner?  Buddy of mine just lost one of those on his 5.3 GMC

Thanks.  It's nice to be back at a steady paycheck, but I do have restoration work to fall back on if I need to.

Today I got in 3+ hours on the 63 Plymouth I am working on  :)
