Old sculpt DropShips?
« on: 24 February 2022, 20:26:23 »
Way back in the Before Times, the first batch of fleet-scale DropShips (Leopard, Union, Overlord, Clan equivalents) were a bit larger than the currently available sculpts. Are the older ships still available for purchase, or are they gone forever?

They are not up on the web site, but I am pretty sure the production molds are still at IWM. I would have to look up the old SKU and ask Mike.

There's no rush. I'm interested in buying some, yes, but it likely won't be in the next couple months even if they're up on the store tomorrow.

In any case, thanks!

I seen to recall there was also a first-sculpt Carrier that was larger than the current? Or am I posting too early in the morning?

The reason I'm looking for these is that in slowly putting together some large units of Battleforce-scale minis and wanted to include their DropShips(even if just as objective markers), and while ships that are actually in scale with the mechs are completely impractical during games(though I think the resin ones are pretty close), I would prefer that a grounded Overlord stand at least slightly taller than a Hunchback.

My records only show one sculpt of the Carrier, 20-180. I think that first wave of DropShips was only the common 'Mech carriers for IS and Clan. The second wave that got retail release also got resized to the smaller scale. Having painted a lot of them, I prefer the larger scale!

The first fleet-scale sculpt of the overlord isn't that big. You'll need to use a plastic egg for that.

I have BT-358 and 20-180 for SKU's, but they appear to be the same sculpt. 20-180 is an (OOP) retail 3-pack where BT-358 is online-only and a single ship.

A Battleforce Hunchback.

A Battleforce Hunchback.
D'oh.

Don't have one of those. What's the height?

About 1mm taller than the Union in the above picture.

You'll need to use a plastic egg for that.

I recommend taking it a step further and using a real egg. Then, if it gets destroyed, you can smash it for proper effect.
