Miniature of the Fortnight #32: Dire Wolf/Daishi
« on: 20 December 2017, 20:47:43 »
Well, here we are at fortnight #32 and the last of the Operation REVIVAL OmniMechs.  And we saved one of the best for last, the Dire Wolf (Daishi), the "Great Death," terror of battlefields throughout known space and a particular favorite of Clan Smoke Jaguar.  Of course, we're here to talk about miniatures, so read the 'Mech of the Week article if you want to learn more about using it.

I know of four sculpts for the Dire Wolf (Daishi):
  • The original sculpt released by Ral Partha in metal and resin (20-607).
  • The plastic mini in the CityTech boxed set, whcich I believe was based on the original sculpt.
  • Like all REVIVAL OmniMechs, Iron Wind Metals released a resculpt (20-607RE).
  • Finally, there is a BattleForce-scale mini, most likely based on the resculpt (20-9131).
Please share any painted Daishis or Dire Wolves you have!  As always, thank you for reading and a special thank you to those of you who will post.

Our next three fortnights will be:
  • New Year's Special (12/31): First generation battle armor
  • Inner Sphere (1/14): The Atlas family (Atlas, Atlas II, and Atlas III).
  • Clan (1/28): Stone Rhino (Behemoth)

I'll bite... To add insult to injury, mine is painted up as a 39th WoBM unit. It twists too.

Okay, first my CityTech Dire Wolves:

An A config in Smoke Jaguar Alpha Galaxy colours, then a W config from Wolf's Dragoons Epsilon regiment. The plastic Daishis are a little crude, but great vehicles for customising.

Then two first sculpt metals - a B config from Smoke Jaguar's Psi galaxy, and an S config from the 2nd Sword of Light (which is also my only ever Iron Painter entry, which came last in Open category. Figures  ::) :P ). Both have had spacers added at the waist and shoulders, which bulks them out so they can stand proud next to more modern minis.

My only Dire Wolf to share.  Painted in the same random scheme as my other few REVIVAL mechs.  Keep them coming everyone!  :)

A resculpt model modified to B-configuration. I went with the flufftext and mounted all four light ACs in one mount. Colors are from 10. Lyran Guard as this was VISD ride.

Amazing customs here! O0
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

This Dire Wolf A is based on the old sculpt mini. I've painted it for the honor of clan Smoke Jaguar.

Inspired by one of the wizkids minis.

My joke mod that really highlights how the Direwolf really is a mashup of 2 Marauders and a Valkerie on one frame.  ;D
