Avengers vs Alpha Flight: Sabertooth's Run
Ran this little fun scenario, at Dundracon 44 in San Ramon, California over the Valentine's weekend. Game was designed to be relatively fast, and meant to be a fun tongue in cheek game.
4 players were involved, aside from myself as the overall GM. 3 newbies and 1 returnee were playing and myself controlling Sabertooth.
Game started at 10:30am and ran to 3:45pm, with a numbers win by the Avengers, but target kill on the side of Alpha Flight.
Overall the dice did not favor Alpha Flight, and the Avenger's weight advantage plus the veteran player on the side of the Avengers did skew the scenario, but much fun was had overall, and even had 2 spectators ask me if the Beginner Box set or the the AGoAC set was a better starter buy.
Hulk was MVP overall, with alots of physicals while Puck and Spider-Man were the bravest overall, even though Puck ended up a mission kill.
Anyway, onto the pictures!
Turn 1. Initial setup, with the Avengers advancing cautiously, while Alpha Flight, lead by Puck dashes ahead. First blood goes to Wolverine with a snap laser shot to Sabertooth's head.
Turn 2: Vindicator loses a left arm to a Ultra20 doubletap from Sabertooth, while Puck bravely charges ahead to harass Sabertooth's rear. Hulk and Thor slowly advance while Cap takes the high ground.
Turn 3: Sabertooth goes down, from a headshot by Shaman. While Black Panther (Guest appearance for Alpha Flight) closes in on Hulk, Spider-Man does a Death from Above on Vindicator, while Puck makes a mad dash for Captain, as a distraction.
Close up of Spidey smashing into the damaged Vindicator. Moderate damage was sustained by Vindicator, while Spidey survived and ran off next turn.
Capt coldly snaps off one of Puck's legs, depriving Alpha Flight of their main mobile harrasser.
Turn 4: Spidey retreats to the rear, posing a threat and forcing Shaman to move up to cover Sasquatch. A very angry and triple strength myomer activated Hulk closes in on Vindicator and ends up hulk smashing poor Vindicator's head while Logan tries his best to distract. Puck gets up and taunts the Captain, while T'challa gets up close and personal with Thor. Sadly, the legendary Panther did not survive the Thunder god's wrath or Ironman's kill shot. Puck also ended up as a mission kill with both arms and both legs shot off by the Captain.
Turn 5: Sasquatch goes for cover, while Wolverine goes on to avenge the fallen Wakandan ruler. Hulk continues his rampage and closes in on the supporting Shaman, tearing off the right torso.
Turn 6: Sasquatch advances out to confront Thor and Hulk, while Spidey glares at him. Shaman does what he can with the remaining Alpha Flight members focusing all on Spidey to limited effect while a overheating Hulk tries to menace Wolverine. Thor delivers the thunder on Sasquatch with a full 6 spread hit from the RAC/5 greatly weakening the beast.
Turn 7: Final round. A badly wounded Sasquatch goes after Ironman, in a frenzied leap, but ends up melting in midair to Ironman's fantastic disco light display. Spider-man and Hulk focus on on Shaman, ending the mystic with a double torso destruction. Thor and Logan square off, while the good Captain supports from range. Wolverine survived the round, but with the right arm claimed by Thor and the left torso smashed in by Cap, the player conceeded.
Overall, while Alpha Flight got the kill on Sabertooth, bold risky maneuvers by Alpha Flight didn't play off, and the Avengers took full advantage of the weight advantage and kept at range to pick apart the team.
