Anyone ever divide up figures by unit?
« on: 19 October 2016, 10:33:13 »
I have seen the long list of figures on the wonderful warrenborn site.  For Dragon's Fury and a few others faction units (Elite/Vet/Green) I have gone through and sorted the list of figures by which unit they would be in in a attempt to try to form those clusters or battalions.

I was just wondering if anyone had actually done this and had lists before I did any more.

I have done that a couple of times but I don't think I've bothered to save the lists. I know it was pretty easy using BattlePlanner.

Yeah, I was just wondering . . . for instance I did the following using the lance information on the dossiers and just the unnamed pieces from the list.  Some of it I was trying to figure out what version or what BTU piece it might be when they did not line up.

Kirikakaru Lance
Erin Johnston      Jupiter
Antonia Chinn      Summoner (Energy/Bal)
Viki Drexel      Shockwave (Arty)
Ryana Sakade         (Grand Dragon 7K)

That is one of the things about the game I wish they had done different. I wish they had finished out all the different lance's or stars. The Lance packs that came out late are great for game play but they started that way back with the dossiers and never finished many of them.
For those of us who enjoyed the lore of the game its almost a crime.

I also wish there was an excel page with all the different units. Though i should just bite the bullet and get battleplanner.

Working my way through the unit list on Warrenborn and the Dossier cards . . . was it DFA and after that had the lance/star listings?

For the Swordsworn, Dragon's Fury, Highlanders, Bannson's Raiders and later Stormhammers should each 'regiment' be considered something like a LCT- 1 mech battalion, 1 armor battalion, 1 infantry battalion, some air support?  Same deal for the Clan clusters- 2-3 mech trinaries, 1-2 armor trinaries/binaries, 1 infantry/BA trinary, ASF/VTOL binary?  Pretty sure none of the mech forces would have formed as a Nova.

Understanding that what is provided in Era Digest Dark Age is a snapshot as of Dec 3134 and while it gives the strength of each unit it may be that each is either under or over their 'paper' strength.  For instance Aaron Sandoval's Davion Guards is listed at two battalions . . . which could mean the paper regiment is at 66% strength, each of the 3 nominal battalions is missing a company either in whole or spread across the battalion.

Here is the Spirit Cat Purifiers . . . because we follow them to Marik they get complicated.  For instance we see Rikkard Nova Cat in the first series piloting a Firestarter for the challenge and part of Shiva Keshik, probably a Star Captain.  Janis Nova Cat is probably a Star Commander and pilots a Arbalest she took in a Trial against the Nova Cats.  Rikkard becoming the Star Colonel for the Purifiers is not hard, its a promotion though he probably ends up with Devalis Shadow Hawk IIC 9 since it matches what he pilots in the novels.  AoD gives them a Nova Cat Omni but its not assigned specifically . . . and Janis ends up with one while fighting on Marik where she has also advanced in rank.

Sariah Nova Cat's Centurion is problematic because the information in the Uniques PDF does not work (300 Vlar XL and it goes 4/6?) and the weapons are off . . . it could be a CN9-Ar except the engine & structure do not work & it says laser rather than PPCs.  I will need to look it up on the actual scanned dossiers.

Further the attack on Marik could give us some more named warriors of the Purifiers as well as some additional equipment we see them deploying.  Along with the Stormhammers, they are the two groups needing the most cross-checking with other sourcebooks.

Most of the early dossiers had wrong information. They are the reason we have the second generations clan omnis.

True, but a lot of that is in the fluff . . . usually you can get the engines & weapons, etc to work.  Her Centurion is a screwball.

We had a fair amount of that. The shadow cat 2 was probably the biggest offender. Fact checking against our existing cbt mechs wasn't the best either.

True, I understand they will be off . . . to be honest, I am thinking for my OB offering it would be a CN9-Ar . . . gets the closest to everything described, except the lasers are PPCs and it would not be that size engine or XL.

I cannot find my book with the break up of the Steel Wolves . . . and I am trying to place if Tal Sender & his Orion IIC along with other characters & equipment mentioned in the book originated with the Crusaders Cluster.  Anyone know?

Belated, but none of the former Steel Wolves from Wolf Hunters are listed as being attached to a specific Steel Wolf unit. Added to that, the Steel Wolves are very problematic; they have between six and nine clusters at various points. Wolf Hunters mentions "entire clusters" leaving the unit. Between them, Varnoff Fetladral and Xera were able to pull together two clusters of troops, while Anna K was left with a single cluster of loyalists. Of course, given that a Cluster can vary wildly in strength, that's not much helf.

Though by the fact that he was a named Trueborn, Tal Sender was not a member of the Wolf Lancers.

Wolf Lancers?  I was asking after the Crusaders Cluster of the Steel Wolves which had a several bloodnamed by the dossiers.

I would suggest they had the 3 main clusters and then anything additional would be considered provisional clusters (or PGCs if you like)- something akin to current task force/groups.

Hey, go take Ronel from the Dragon's Fury.  Your a brevet Star Colonel and here are three trinaries for your provisional cluster . . . at least according to the books, really you have two binaries- one of mechs that includes some wannabes in IndiMechs for a ToP and one of combat vehicles just ignore that some look like tractors with missile tubes.  And your infantry star is more a infantry mob, but you have a half-blood Elemental that failed his BA training to retread as infantry to train them for the three weeks you are in transit.  Good luck!

As far as ANY of the named individuals in Wolf Hunters or their equipment I was sort of hoping for associations for the few named individuals we do get.  I wanted to use what was present.

Tal Sender represents a challenge, given what I imagine would be the only Orion IIC in the Steel Wolves he should either be in the Keshik or the most elite line unit.  Which would be the Crusaders.
