Battletech on Heroscape terrain!
« on: 27 May 2024, 07:41:33 »
Hello all!   I've been a battletech fan since the 80s.  I've been playing on Heroscape terrain for a long time and thought I'd share some shots of it here.

Heroscape looks good if you can get a decent mat with 1.75 inch hexes.

Hotz used to make nice ones but IIUC there out of business now.

I don't know if anyone makes one now.
Hopefully someone does or will with Heroscape coming back into production.

If you take a look at the image, I actually am testing out some new designs for the maps.  They are a fleece material and look rather incredible.  Shown is a grass map under the heroscape.  It limits the use of them as a board and allows you to just use them for terrain heights.  Attached here is a closeup shot of the grass map.

I have others planned but testing them fully before releasing them to the public.  Eventually, they will be at my LingSter Games storefront.

Combining BattleTech with Heroscape terrain sounds like a fantastic idea for fans of both games. The modular and highly customizable nature of Heroscape terrain could bring a fresh and dynamic battlefield experience to BattleTech matches. Imagine engaging in intense mech combat across varied landscapes, from urban ruins to mountainous regions. This crossover could also attract new players by blending the tactical depth of BattleTech with the accessible, visually appealing terrain of Heroscape. It would be a unique way to enjoy both games, enhancing the strategic and aesthetic aspects of the tabletop experience.

Buy a small paint roller, mix an appropriate colored, inexpensive craft paint in a roller tray with a small amount of PVA (school/Elmer's) glue, gently roll the mixture over the raised portions of the Heroscape hexes, and then either press the hexes into flock or dust them as you desire. Link as many hexes together as you see fit and lightly spray them with matte/dull coat; this will provide additional sealer for the flocking and linking them together beforehand prevents the relatively tight keys from glomming up and becoming unusable. It also dulls the natural plastic shine of the hexes.

Easier than it sounds and only mildly labor- and time-intensive.

The typical consensus used to be two Heroscape tiles per level, but that can add up quickly if you do not have a mass of them on hand. It does look better up against BattleTech miniatures, though.

Um, well, matte or dull sealer is not shiny, nor slick. Either way, it is not a requirement for the process to work, but it will make it longer lasting/more durable.

By the way, if you don't want to purchase on the secondary market, Renegade Game Studios have Heroscape back in production. They are selling some terrain-only expansions as well.

Indeed. And the first big tiles of Sand ever released.

Sucker ain't cheap, though. Best get a 1.75" mat to use as the base!
