Details on the Invader class jumpship
« on: 31 March 2013, 18:13:20 »
Greetings all,

Going back over "Jumpships & Dropships" I'm having a problem with the invader. The Tech readout style with all the tonnages for systems, etc. It only lists 2 small crafts. However, in the flavor text about Jumpship design it talks about the Invader having Lifeboats for all the crew, which means 4 lifeboats. And this is where my confusion starts.
sarna.net list the Invader with 24 crew, but the original J&D lists only 22.
So are the Escapepods built into the Invader and don't count as part of the Smallcrafts, as the flavor text states, or does it just have 2 small craft?
I also has a question concerning Lifeboats & Escapepods, but sarna.net has answered the size issue with a comment about swapping the text. But does the Invader have Lifeboats or Escapepods?

Cheers,
Gomi

Hi,

Frankly, I would start by discaruing the DS & JS references. They built spacecraft back then with no rules whatsoever.

Thanks,

So is there a preferred source book for deep space stuff?
And is there a rule set now?

Hi,

Large spacecraft construction is currently handled by the rules in Strategic Operations.

Thank you,

The first fairly complete set of rules (construction and combat) for large spacecraft was BattleSpace, printed in 1990, which largely invalidated the stats (created ad hoc) in DropShips & JumpShips and TR:2750. They've received continuous support since then either in BattleSpace, AT2 (1999?), AT2R, and most recently Total Warfare (basic air/space combat), Tech Manual (fighter, small craft and DropShip construction), and Strategic Operations (advanced air/space combat, advanced space unit construction.)

Hello,

....Which, again, translates to "Strategic Operations". BattleSpace, DropShips & JumpShips, AeroTech, and AeroTech 2 were all replaced by the rules for aerospace construction and combat found in Strategic Operations, especially where JumpShips are concerned. There is thus no need to discuss the obsolete rulebooks now, especially as it will only cause confusion.

For the latest corrected stats on the Invader class JumpShip, see TRO 3057 Revised.

Thanks,

Yep. I was just providing a historical perspective in response to the question, "And is there a rule set now?"

Yes, now and for many years prior.
