Mauser 960 AToW-C to TM conversion
« on: 29 January 2018, 09:42:22 »
I tried to use the conversion formula in AToW-C and can’t make it work

According to the newest errata I found these damage values
Mauser 960    0.93
Mauser 1200  1.04
Pulse Laser Rifle (for comparison)  0.25/0.33 (IS/Clan)

I know the damage value is a combination of the pulse laser rifle component, the compact grenade launcher and the vibro blade
Vibro blade is 0.21
Compact grenade launcher is 0.16, but that is the 1 shot version. I calculated using the average damage of anti personnel and high explosive class A ordonance to 0.4725 (single shot was 0.1575, which would round nicely to 0.16)
That leaves the rifle component.
Mauser 1200 is a 4E/4B weapon with burst 5 giving me 0.36 for a total of 1.0425 which rounds nicely to 1.04 as it is in the errata table
Now Mauser 960 has only 3E/3B but with a burst of 10 that is 0.33 for a total of rounded 1.01 instead of 0.93
Now the AToW damage of a 960 happens to be the same as for a IS pulse laser rifle: 3E/3B with a burst of 10 which should have 0.25 but I calculated it as 0.33

The formula works fine for the Mauser 1200
I have a penetration factor of 0.75 (AP of 3 divided by 4)
And a damage factor of 16.5 (base damage 3 times the sum of 3.5 and burst rating (10) divided by 5)
The reload factor as for all energy weapons is 1

What did I do wrong here?

You did use the errata formula, right?

That might be how you got 0.33 instead of the 0.25 it should be for the pulse laser.  With that fix: 0.21 + 0.48 + 0.25 = 0.93.

That wasn’t it but when I double checked my formulas against the errata, I discovered my spreadsheet did not take the penetration factor into account, that’s why all the AP 4+ weapons I tested were correct ( as the factor is 1 for those) and these with AP 3 were not.

All good, little scare as I did calculate the penetration factor in a different place for the ordonance calculation, so when adding it I suddenly had it factored in twice, but now it works.

I hate numbers...

Could I impose a question?

What would a Auto-rifle and compact grenade be like? And ( Inferno ) variant?

Thanks,

Compact Grenade Launcher (ordonance class A) can’t fire inferno
The 1-shot launcher will add 0.16 to the 0.52 of the auto rifle for 0.68. If getting a 5-6 shot variant like on the Mausers or Fed—Barretts it would add 0.47 for 0.99 damage.
Using a Grenade Laucher instead (class B) you have 0.81 with normal ammunition for 1.33 and also the option to use inferno (0.34) for a total of 0.86

If you use armor piercing ammunition on your rifle you can reach 1.40
Modding your rifle could end you up with 1.71 (0.90 without grenade launcher, just the rifle)
That would be 12 damage on a squad of 7 (or 11 with shortrange of 3)

I could see 1.00 if you take the oneshot compact grenade launcher (0.16) and multiply it by 3, not sure how to get to 1.01

P.s. my mods for the 1.71 über-rifle were: increased RoF and damage with a range reduction of 35%, just enough to keep a short range of 1

I think I rounded after doing all the math (i.e., retained all 4+ decimal points until the last step).

It should have rounded down for the burst value as per your errata link. Would have been easier if the had stated to assume a burst of 0 for single shot weapons, then burst divided by 5 would be 0 anyway, so rounding down from 0.2 (1/5) is not necessary for single shot.
