Quarrel, Clan Wolf Space
February 21, 3141

Clan Wolf is undertaking an operation of staggering magnitude, moving an entire Clan's holdings across the Inner Sphere. Kalena Gilmour of the 5th Bear Guards, part of the much aligned Omega Galaxy of the Rasalhague Dominion, has set her eye on Quarrel as a chance to reclaim honour for her Galaxy and much needed resources for her unit.

Meanwhile, in Quarrel, remnants of the 11th Battle Cluster are maintaining a Wolf military presence in the district. With no intention of holding the line, the Wolf units have to escape through a Bear blockade to leave the planet and rendezvous with the rest of Beta Galaxy.

This was really a chance to try out my brand new 3D hex terrain, and put my Dark Age Wolves on the table for only the second time. The mission was a Breakthrough mission from Total Warfare, balanced using BV.

Clan Wolf Beta Galaxy, 11th Battle Cluster
Kit Fox Prime (3/4)
Mad Dog Prime  (3/4)
Tundra Wolf 4 (3/4)
Warwolf Prime (2/3)
Warwolf Prime (3/4)

Wulfen Prime (3/4)
Lobo   (3/4)
Sun Cobra (3/4)
Blood Reaper (2/3)
Night Wolf (3/4)

Rasalhague Dominion Omega Galaxy - 5th Bear Guards
Warhammer IIC 4 (4/5)
Warhawk Custom (3/4)
Executioner Prime (3/4)
Dire Wolf E (3/4)
Kodiak (3/4)

Nova A (3/4)
Stormcrow B (3/4)
Mad Dog Custom (3/4)
Ebon Jaguar Prime (3/4)
Gargoyle Prime (4/5)

Turn 1 - Bear Initiative
Both forces moved onto the table, the Wolves focusing on the Southern half and the Bears attempting to gain the large hill and the best firing vantages. On the Northern flank, the lone Wulfen traded shots with the Warhawk but neither unit was damaged.

Turn 2 - Wolf Initiative
The Wulfen, attempting to use it's maneuverability to help it survive, heads up the large hill, and manages to survive a torrent of fire from the Stormcrow, Kodiak, and Warhawk with minimal damage.
On the southern flank, the Wolves advance quickly under fire, but manage to do quite a bit of damage on their own. The Nova A takes 2 gauss rifle hits to the centre torso from the Sun Cobra, and a Warwolf wastes no time finishing the job with a third gauss to the midline. Meanwhile, a lucky hit from the Wolf Mad Dog leads to some damage on the Ebon Jaguar prowling the hill, which causes it to loose it's footing, falling to the level below. Despite significant damage to it's head, the Ebon Jaguar and her pilot survive the fall.

Turn 3 - Bear Initiative
With the Wolves still advancing towards their objective, the Ghost Bear forces are able to deal considerable damage during the melee to the south of the large hill. The lead Warwolf takes a huge hit to it's torso thanks to the Ebon Jaguar but managed to continue fighting.

The Bear Gargoyle took a beating from both the Lobo and the Kit Fox, but stood fast. The Ghost Bear Mad Dog faced off against the Tundra Wolf and came out for the worse, with a blow to the gyro the 'mech couldn't remaining standing under fire.

Meanwhile, the Wulfen was caught in crossfire on the large hill and succumbed to a series of laser strikes from the Kodiak.

Turn 4 - Wolf Initiative
With the Wolves still attempting to advance, the fire from the Bears began to take it's toll. The Night Wolf, breaking off in an attempt to take pressure off of his advancing comrades, was pounded by a trio of Bear assault 'mechs and nearly lost a leg and a torso. The return fire at the Dire Wolf was potent, but fell short of penetrating the machines massive amounts of armour. The Blood Reaper was lambasted by the Executioner but barely survived with a large hole in it's left torso.

Ahead, the lead Warwolf caught the Mad Dog in crossfire but missed all of it's rear shots. The Warhammer IIC traded blows with the Kit Fox as it attempted to leave the field of battle. The second Warwolf and the Wolf Mad Dog pounded the Ebon Jaguar, destroying its foot actuator and causing it to fall again.

Turn 5 - Wolf Initiative
The Kit Fox narrowly escaped and moved onto it's objective. The Lobo's pilot circled back to help provide support for his fellow Wolf 'mechwarriors, while still maintaining a striking distance to his objective. He instantly regretting this decision as a laser shot from the Kodiak nearly removed his head.

The Mad Dog and both Warwolf's moved forward again and where one short burst of speed from reaching their objective, destroying the Bear Mad Dog's engine while on the move. Supporting fire from the Sun Cobra finally downed the Ebon Jaguar, which had already been reduced to little more than Endo-steel.

The Night Wolf again narrowly avoided death at the hands of three Bear Assault 'mechs, and managed to severely damage the Executioner which was destroyed by the resulting fall.

With four out of 8 remaining 'mechs poised to leave the table at the start of turn 6, we decided to call the game in favour of Clan Wolf. The Bears had dealt huge blows, but we felt it was too late for them to recover from allowing an entire star to read their objective. Some quick math after the fact verified our decision, even if they had destroyed all 4 remaining mechs without losing any of their own, the Bears would be lower in Victory Points than the Wolves.

Marginal Victory for the Wolf Clan

The mat was purchased at a local fabric store. It's made from a reinforced material (think of it like an inside-out raincoat) and was painstakingly hand-hexxed by yours truly.
