bad idea vehicles! (a design challenge)

Design three things:

a Tank

a VTOL

another combat vehicle.

what you have to work with:

The Tank can be between 30 and 55 tons, may be tracked or wheeled, but not hover.  must include at least 2 machine guns and one additional weapon, may not include CASE, and may be powered by ICE or Fuel Cell, but not fusion.

the VTOL

May be between 15 and 25 tons.  Must include one long-range weapon, but must also include a secondary weapon with short range (for designs over 20 tons).  Must be able to survive a 1 level fall or 'crash' on the hull.  May not be fusion powered or have XL or XXL fusion power, and must include at least one weapon designed after 3067.

"bang for the buck":  both vehicles must have some aspect that stands out-whether speed, or armor, or weapons load.  Armor is restricted to stock Ferro fibrous or Standard armor (for cost reasons). 

Aim for satisfying two thirds of the golden triad: armor, speed, or firepower.  It must stand out compared to book vees, but it must have one obvious design flaw, aka if it's fast and well armored, anemic weapons, if it's got great firepower and speed, crap armor, if it's got weapons and armor that are exceptional, it is 'a bit slow' (literally).

Imagine these as "also rans" for a procurement contract, which lost, but 'coulda been a contendah' if the designers/engineers had spent just a LITTLE more time (or had a little better budget).

Not the strongest weapons load, or the fastest thing out there, but generally decently well-rounded, and enough ammo to allow for specialty munitions...

Straight from the lab 3 actually good vehicles with obvious design flaws

First up the Guardian Tank.  This light tank (30T) is built with defence in mind - the LB-5X weapon system allows this a militia to seed a web of highly effective air defence far and wide on a budget.  With space for slug rounds as well as cluster and a coaxial and forward mounted machine guns this little protector will not make itself easy for any opposition to clear away and the extremely heavy (for it's size) armour (able to withstand the heaviest autocannon rounds) leaves the guardian able to punch far above it's weight. 

The poor speed on the Guardian leaves it as a "semi mobile" defence unit so it has been given a trailer hitch allowing it to tow a trailer support unit, such as the Carrion MK11 Arrow IV Trailer into position in advance.  Prepared defences overlaying TAG equipped, concealed Infantry, Guardians, Minefields and MK11 trailers can be very tough to crack for even elite assault regiments

Next up, the ultra light "Gonzales" utility combat helicopter.  This very light weight VTOL is a boon to any combat engineering unit and occasionally used by other combat units. The incredibly high speed of the Gonzales is it's armour, which is just as well as it barely has any other armour.  The front armour can stop a medium laser hit but it's the only facing that can.  However this has been considered acceptable as the Gonzales should not be in a position to receive fire.  A small (1T) infantry bay allows the Gonzales to be used to ferry small teams of specialists around at great speed.  The twin LRM launchers are often loaded with mine laying, mine clearing or smoke ammunition allowing this unit to shape the battlefield from relative safety

A little confused as you wanted 3 vehicles but only gave design information out on 2 I have simply built a 3rd vehicle sharing some of the common restrictions

Finally, the WRECKER an unpleasant sub-urban combat specialist.  It is important that those people purchasing WRECKERs do not deploy them in places where they are concerned about collateral damage as these machines are built to level buildings.  The namesake wrecking ball obviously does the job from up close but for units in a hurry the Long Tom Artillery Cannon mounted on the front of this beast delivers just about the biggest direct fire hit money can buy on such a small machine.  Battle Armour especially is rightly terrified of Wreckers as that Long Tom Artillery Cannon can annhilate BA units en-masse and worries little about how fast, nimble or stealthy they are.

While the Long Tom Cannon can provide defensive fire much closer and more accurately than a full Long Tom Artillery piece the Wrecker is still designed with the assumption that enemy troops will try to get under the gun into the eye of the storm.  While that has the added bonus of bringing them in reach of the Wrecking Ball first they have to run the gauntlet of Machine Guns (hull mounted on all 4 sides) and Vehicular Grenade Launchers (also hull mounted on all 4 sides).  Should they make it through that there's still a decently thick armoured shell to cut through.

Designed as an infantry support vehicle the Wrecker is not built for speed but it doesn't want to get too far from it's support anyway, it just wants to roll slowly forward wrecking whatever is in front of it.

Background:

The engineers had been working on the design of a new battle tank for several long months, spending endless hours at their computer design programs, ensuring that each component was perfect to the finished product they had planned. It was coming down to the last weeks of the project before the first prototype version was to be manufactured when the company's management were indicted on embezzlement charges. Now, with little time left, the engineers that were the last hope of their company found that they no longer had the funds to make their dream tank. In fact, they barely had enough to scrape together a modest prototype in time for the competition, and most of its features had to be downgraded, from engine to weapons to armor, in order for it to be built at all. However, they banded together and decided that if they were going to go down, they were going to go down together, battling to the end, as the 300 Spartans did at Thermopylae so many centuries ago.

Despite their best efforts, the engineers failed to win the bid, and their company folded, but their battle tank, the SPN-480 Spartan, has become legendary in its own right.

Ruger, for your Spartan tank design doesn't the Fuel Cell engine come with a free heat sink included so you only need 2 tons of additional heat sinks?

Erm, yes? That's how it was written (3 heat sinks, 2 tons for them)...
