Fury Command Tank (2765)

FURY COMMAND TANK
The Fury of the fluff and that of the record sheet differ dramatically, IMO. The Nirasaki-400X computer's effect in combat is... non-existent. We don't have rules for this "primitive C3 system", as described in TRO:3050U, p. 178, nor do we have a Quirk describing its abilities. So I've gone ahead and altered the Fury to have some kind of command-like ability and be one of the few units to utilize the potential of Communications Equipment on a ground unit.

The first unit is the SLDF version, as per TRO:2750. Ditching the one ton of infantry bay space (wth is that, anyhow?) and mounting a Fuel Cell engine to save space, the load out and armor are precisely the same as the canon version. The exception is its ability to either generate an ghost targets, ECCM, or grant the entire force a +2 initiative bonus. This is, in my opinion, a much better representation of just how useful this ammunition-dependent hunk of metal really is.

Beneath this is the Fury Command Tank (2765) and (HAF) versions; the former being a "consumer-grade version" meant for the Member States and the latter for the Hegemony Armed Forces. The consumer-grade tank still grants a +1 to initiative, courtesy of its 3 tons of communications equipment, but is nowhere near as robust in its load-out and contains only one ton of ammunition, even dumping the backup Medium Laser. This version installs a Fusion Engine, making it exactly 33% more expensive than what the Star League is making for its own forces (which seems incredibly realistic, given the Hegemony's typical behavior regarding the sale of tech to the Member States).

The first and last variants only need 6 tons of Communications Equipment to get to the magic 7 (one ton equivalent comes free with the controls).  The middle variant is still best off with 3 extra tons installed, as 4 tons gets you satellite downlinks on top of the +1 initiative for 3 tons.

It is a quite big tank just for one Gauss Rifle.

Given the command role, it's adequate. This thing isn't supposed to be in the front line trading shots but behind the front line coordinating the front line forces.

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your BT experience. Now what? (Thanks Sartis!)

The Fury's just overweight, full-stop.  You can nearly halve the cost by putting it on a diet to 60 tons, and all it costs is half a ton of armor.  Or taken to 65-70 tons and you actually have a bit more weight to play around with.

IMO, much of the first two TROs need restructuring in this manner. People have a nostalgic attachment to them, but these deeply flawed vehicles and 'mechs were made during a time when matching the art was more important than functionality in a game. It was also before we had things like "quirks" to explain the inconsistencies between description and record sheet (EXT-4D not having stealth for 25 years, or reflective armor; Fury has no battle computer; no difference between supposedly superior brands of PPC/laser, etc.) I think a revised edition with the tech available in TO/SO/IO is in order. Again... IMO.

My attempt here isn't a complete retcon of its tonnage or weaponry, but to try and make it fit the description and jibe with common sense, with as little change as possible. Why would any Member State purchase a stripped-down Fury II? Realistically? The Gauss Rifle was universally available in the form of the Demon wheeled tank, Highlander, etc. So there's no value to purchasing this vehicle unless it has some other function beyond a piddly single ton of ammo and a medium laser. A heavily-armored command tank that gives your force an edge is something that no Member State possessed, beyond Dropships and the (rare) Mobile HQ, which was laughably fragile.
