BA General Questions
« on: 11 March 2018, 09:54:32 »
I have the old Heavy Metal programs and it is what I use to print out my sheets.  As a combined arms player, it often means BA along with other types.  On the HM print out for BA it has a 'BA Direct Fire Table' which has different results for the number of troops that hit out of a squad of 4 than the SRM results.  This question recently came up b/c no comparable table can be found with the 'new' books since HM pre-dates TW.  Did TW discard such a table for BA, instead using the hit chart for 4/5/6 number appropriate squad/points?

I think that it might be there because in earlier rules the Cluster Hits Table didn't have a column for 5

What specifically brought it up was the 4 column which had different results than the cluster hits table.

For example the differences on the 4 come in at a roll of 10, which the cluster hit table says 3 but the BA Direct Fire table says all 4 hit.

Now that I look, it also has a difference on the 5 at a roll of 8 which the cluster table says 3 but the BA table says 4.

You are correct in that there used to be a BA table, but they just use the regular Cluster table ever since TW came out.

Which was in 2006, so over 11 years ago.  (Yes, HMP is that old since it last got updated)

I know, I just never compared them so when someone looking at the box set chart came up with a different answer than what was on my sheet its what prompted the question.  We also discussed the old BMR rule where you could hit troopers made dead that turn.

New BA questions came up . . .

IIRC each individual missile loaded on a BA is, well, individual.  This was a change from BMR which caused the Salamander to no longer be the only BA that could load inferno missiles in its launchers.  Which would mean SRMs could also be loaded with NARC compatible warheads.  Question was if this was accurate, and would all the missiles loaded in the BA squad/point have to use the same type- for instance, if a Elemental point wants inferno then both the loads in the SRM2 have to be inferno.

Second BA question was, and it was a bit unclear in TW though maybe errata had addressed it . . . when a BA are riding on a Omni or mag clamps on any mech, if the mech jumps can the BA dismount that turn at the end of the jump?  TW cites please, we were flipping back and forth trying to find something concrete.

I don't think that both salvos for an Elemental need to be the same type, though I am fairly sure that all the missiles if a given salvo need to be of the same type. There are restrictions in TW as to what missile types BA are allowed to use, you may want to check that as well.

I'm not sure on the second one. I'd ask in the Rules Forum if I were you.
