Miniature of the Fortnight #83: BattleMaster
« on: 04 December 2019, 21:49:19 »
In the second edition BattleTech boxed set, there was only one assault 'Mech, the BattleMaster.  What it lacked in appearance compared to the Warhammer and Marauder, it made up in sheer staying power.  It really was a master of battle.  Sadly, like every other 'Mech from that boxed set, it was entangled in the mess of the late '90's and became Unseen, and then Reseen with Project Phoenix, and now, Classic, through the Game of Armored Combat boxed set.  If you haven't used one before, or would like to learn more about it in game, please see Kotetsu's 'Mech of the Week article.

As befitting a 'Mech of its vintage, there have been several sculpts of the BattleMaster throughout the years:
  • Unseen:
    • The original Battledroid-era sculpt (20-838).
    • The Unseen resculpt (20-838), available in both metal and resin.
    • The BattleTech, Third Edition boxed set from FASA featured a plastic version of the BattleMaster, based on the metal sculpt.
  • Reseen:
    • The Reseen sculpt for the BLR-4S (20-210).
    • The sculpt for the Calvin variant (part of the Black Widow Company Lance pack, 10-035).
    • A BattleForce sculpt, based on the Reseen sculpt (20-9108).
    • A Museum-scale sculpt (DL-683).
    • A plastic sculpt was included in the previous generation of CGL boxed sets.
  • Classic:
    • The new plastic Classic sculpt featured in CGL's Game of Armored Combat boxed set.
If you have any of these masters of battle painted, please post pictures.  We'd love to see them!

As always, thank you for reading, and a special thank you to those of you who will post!

I'm running behind on life right now so I don't have the Q1 2020 schedule put together yet.  Take this as an opportunity to request 'Mechs you'd like to see in the the scheduling and discussion thread!

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • Clan (12/16): Invading Clans: Steel Viper Edition (Battle Cobra and Crossbow, with special guest Crossbow)
  • Special (12/30): WarShips and JumpShips

One of my favorite assault mechs. 8)  I have three, two reseen and one new classic.  In order:

1) BLR-4S I painted following the tutorial in the back of Total Warfare
2) BLR-4S done for my stepson's mercenary company
3) BLR-1G painted to match my Lyran Royal Guards company

I can present a standard -4S and a Calvin variant.
The box set miniature has never been build and the classic BattleMaster has not been done yet. We will see, when i will get them done...

Of the seven (yikes!) Battlemasters I own, three are painted.  I've also have a Lyran Guard one in-process, but I'm struggling with artist's block on that project.  So!

A BLR-5M for the Marik Militia:

A stock BLR-1G in Generic Team Yellow livery:

And another in Oosik Irregulars colors, in Mountain Line camo:

I have only one, and it is part of Davion's 1st Brigade of Guards

Also, like Vaaish's above, it is a plastic one.

Both plastic 3rd edition minis

-Generic Sword of Light

-Davion Heavy Guards (this one was actually inspired by B1BFlyers (Dyess, or Ellsworth?) Recent video on doing blues with Citadel Contrast. Nowhere near on his level,  but i was happy with the result!

Stripes are one thing, as I did my first striping last month.  I'll keep practicing.

The banding on the black stripe that B1b did is something else.  Man that is a good looking Beemer.

From my homemade Capellan unit; the "Jùfēng qíshì", or Hurricane Riders, aka "Riders on the Storm". A fanatical mech Battalion formed by a retired General, hoping to be granted Warrior House status eventually.

I customized this one based on this model.  Someone I know made this guy, and I painted him up for my Clan Wolf PGC.  The record sheet for it is attached.  I had to add jump jets to the model to match my vision of a Clan-built murder monster for a Star Commander/Captain.
