After StCptMara posted this in the Non Cannon Forum.
http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,1068.0.html

I felt inspired to take them out for a spin.

Ningpo:
The Urbanmech Cavalry have been tasked with running interference for the main forces making the Republics trust against House Ijori. The UC target are the guts of a company which are located in an industrial area well behind the main body of troops.
They are to prevent them from leaving the area so they are unable to reinforce any of the other units we are hitting today.
Using Leopards not assigned to the main battle. The UC are transported to the  dropsite.
Chosing to drop the Artilly unit outside the combat zone along with Zippy himself for protection.

We also used Minimal arms and Low Profile for all the urbies involved.
As We lack 12 Urbies. We managed to scrap together 3  Staring as the AC20 ones.
Plus the IIC version.
The Arrow VI Urbies Shall be Played this evening by the Piranhas.
The RAC Urbies  HunchBacks & Enforcer.
The LB-X Urbies By the Centurons
And the MRM Urbies by Stingers

The Liao forces Consited of
Hammer
Hammer
Clint
Battlehawk

Vindicator
Vindicator
BlackJack
Cataphract

Hercules
Thunder

Turn 1
The LB-X Lance Drops around the Buildings in an attempt to deny any good shots. Only the Hammer gets shots off. All going wide.
The Arrow VI lance arrives and sets up in a nice safe position.
2 of the Liao mechs leave the city moving towards the Arty lance.

Turn 2
The Rac Lance arrives. And the First lance open up on an unfortunate Vindicator. Stripping him of a chunk of armour.
The first round of arty is launched. The command Urbie takes return fire.

Turn 3
The MRM Lance arrives. And attempts to hinder the advance of the Hercules.
The incoming Arty smashes a building allowing the Blackjack to take some shots this turn.
Captain Zippy puts himself between the incoming mechs and the Arty lance. His shots managing to open the Clints arm.

The UC's bunch together and focus on the other Vindicator and Hercules. And manage to knock the Hercules on its ass. Unfortuantly a Thunder shows the an Urbie what it is like to be on a receiving end of an AC 20. Putting him down Hard.

An Urbie recieves a taste of it's own medicine.

Turn 4
The arty is a little better this turn. Landing around the Vindicator and Cataphract.
The Hercules gets back up and attempts to escape though the Building. He is quickly followed by two urbies. The fire fails to put him down. The resulting Kick sends the first urbie to the repairbay.
A Vindicator loses his PPC and one of the Rac Urbies Suffers a Jam.

The Thunder and blackhawk take out one of the LB X Urbies. But return fire adds a second AC 20 to the Thunders right side. Killing it by taking the torso off.
The Battlehawk takes the brunt of Zippies firepower.

Turn 5
The Incoming Arty takes out an unlucky Hammer.  And the lance changes tactics to Direct fire and Blast the clint back to the 1st succession wars. Taking off two limbs and hitting the warrior within for five pionts of damage.
The Hercules takes safety in a hardened building. Leaving those around it unable to actually hurt it.
The Vindicator gets smacked around and ends up face first in the pavement.  A Rac Urbie ends up needing a large repair bill.
Zippy Finishes off the Battlehawk

Turn 6
All alone the Hammer attempts to flee And only suffers minor armor Damage.
The Hercules leaves the buildings safety as the UC attempt to bring it down on his head. He manages to take the AC from the urbie on front of him.

The Cataphract has similar luck removing an LB-X this turn.
The Vindicator has loses his other arm.
And the Urbies begin a game of chase around the city.

Turn7
Free of harassing units. The Arty lance use their remain shots to ruin the Cataphracts day. While the rest of the the UC continue to try and chase the Hercules further into the city.

Things didn't look too good for the liao forces. With the remaining Hammer caught between both sides and opting to take the easy route out.

A win for the UC but a heck of a repair bill at the end of it. I hope they have good compensation in their contract.

While the cavalry where a fun unit to play.  They have some major issues.

Had we not dropped on the city they would have been shoot to bits before they got close enough to get their own licks in.
We wouldn't have been able to chase the enemy had they decided to flee the city. But thankfully they decided to fight it out.

And even thou we won the fight. We weren't in a good position at the end of the game. With 3 mechs down. 3 more missing their big guns. And at least half the remaining mechs where suffering armor issues and a lack of ammo.
So we hope the repair teams and Ammo trucks are near by.

To get around this I'd suggest investing in UM-R80.
The Tag will help with arty unit. And the lack of ammo makes it able to last a while longer.

Thanks for letting me take the unit for a Spin StCptMara. It was an entertaining scrap.

Nice to see the Domes get a good result!!!!

I'd totally redub this unit to the Chrome Domes!

You forgot to use the dropships effectively....
Remember: a Leopard, a Broadsword, and a Hamilcar, all Aerodyne droppers. Meaning they could have been used for CAS if
necessary.

Also, yeah, the UC is not meant for fighting an engagement where the enemy will flee...Also, 3 'mechs down...they are Urbies:
Cheap, easy to replace. Why it doesn't have the UM-80? Because the UM 80 is still a wee bit new...the AIV was something I
had to figure out how to justify them having as-is...

sorry, but StCptMara has firmly said that doesn't go with the 'theme' of the unit. see, the whole reason the group is called 'Captain Zippy's Ubanmech Calvery' is due to the old saying 'may your calvery all be urbanmechs'  and it's taken quite literaly.
Overkill is only overkill when you cannot find the pieces.

I am curious, MarkHall..did you tell your opponents what they would be facing before the battle?
Either way, what was their reaction to facing Assault Cavalry Urbanmechs?

You had a good Hour of knowing before we played. :)
And you totally rocked with the Arty lance.

StCptMara: I hadn't taken the Dropship into account for the game. Plus Staffing a city with a dropship is firmly in the category of

If Your not adding anything new just yet.
Then maybe a Mod to help get the best from your arty.
Maybe loose one of the lasers off the LB X urbie and Throw on a Tag.

Because the challenge was to keep it to canon urbies...Anyone can make something
awesome if they do customs (Imagine the UM-60L refitted, for instance, with Heavy Ferro
armour, and removing the 11th heat sink for an extra ton of armour or ammo)

I love using armies of a single design. I personally have twenty unseen Archers and use as many as I can as often as I can. I do back them up with infantry, vehicle, or 'Mech spotters though.

It sounds like it was a fun fight!  From the POV of hindsight I think you may have given the urbies too many Arrow IV launchers.  Might want to think about dropping that to 2 and switching the other launchers out with the R80s to help supplement that loss.  Degrades the total power while focusing it a bit better.

Actually, I didn't. You have 3 front line lances, the command 'mech and an auxillary artillery lance. It is a perfectly valid set-up.
Though, I do keep thinking that, perhaps, Captain Zippy is from Marik...

Oh, I wasn't trying to say you were using any sort of invalid tactic/unit.  And now I remember that it was only 3 (?) AIVs with Zippy as escort...IIRC.  So...yeah, not too bad.

Yeah...it was supposed to be 17 'mechs: 4 full lances plus the command 'Mech...the whole thing can be moved by its Leopard, Hamilcar, and Broadsword dropships..

The unit is fun and the Arty adds a nice bit of punch to the force.
And very few people are going expect to be shelled out of it once the urbies drop so it's a perfect shock and Awe tactic.
