Looks like I gotta bow out for this weekend. But defintiely play each other at least! And keep floating balloons in the future.

Other dates:
Aug 10, training session with Cubby, but others welcome.
Aug 20: Battle for Anywhere begins!
Sep 24: Battle for Anywhere part 2! Pay for your mistakes, or reap your rewards!
The solution is just ignore Paul.

Good afternoon folks-

I'm getting back into Battletech after a long hiatus.  I'm in Ellicott City and rebuilding my model collection.  What are the local events?

Welcome back! I did the same thing about 4 years ago, and started playing regularly with the group that posts here.

With a few exceptions, there a monthly game at Games and Stuff in Glen Burnie, Md. If you've been gaming in the area awhile, I'm sure you know it. If not, it's an awesome store, and as well stocked with BT as any place I've seen in the modern era. They stock all sourcebooks and minis that come out, on their CGL-listed street date.

Paul, who you'll see posting upthread, runs these monthly games. We just finished a six- or seven-month stay on Solaris VII doing an ongoing melee challenge, and are now embarking on a small linked campaign on Anywhere.

Upcoming dates are:

Aug 20: Battle for Anywhere begins!
Sep 24: Battle for Anywhere part 2! Pay for your mistakes, or reap your rewards!

There are also occasional one-off games, such as an upcoming "tutorial" match where Paul is going to run me through the use of vehicles and battle armor.

You'll find it's a great group to play with, very patient and eager to make the game fun. Hope to see you soon!

Thanks Cubby!  I am familiar with Games and Stuff, and I'll try and meet up with the crew at some point.  What do I need to bring?

Bribes are a good start. ;)

Nah, we tend to supply whatever you'll need for the most part. Dice, a pencil, if you have miniatures they're not NEEDED (I try to keep things supplied on that front) but are always welcome for ooing and ahhing over, if you have books like Total Warfare it's always good to have a few copies around the table for reviewing if needed.

Welcome back to the game, looking forward to seeing you there!

Look forward to meeting you, TMF!

Update on tomorrow's game: looks like we're going to have to cancel due to scheduling issues...! Sorry for any that were planning to attend, will post when we pick a fresh date!

Aug 20 is of course still happening.

Training session has been moved to Monday. 6pm start.

Unfortunately, due to some last-minute work issues that have cropped up for me, I've asked to move it again, from tonight to Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. Awaiting confirmation from Paul. Apologies for being so flaky on this one, it's been an...interesting time.

Ugh, I'm really sorry. Although, if Paul's willing to give up a Friday night, maybe we can do it on 9/2?

Okay, reset for 9/2 at 6 p.m. then. We'll be contending with Friday Night Magic, but it's late in the current format and it's Labor Day weekend, so attendance might be light enough. Plus we won't get kicked out early!

If anyone in Virginia is heading up that way for the 9/2 game, let me know. I'm likely available to join in, but would need to hitch a ride up there and back. (I'm very near the Beltway near the Wilson Bridge, and promise to be paper-trained so there's no mess. Also, I'll bring miniatures to use if that's of any help.)

It's a company of Mechs blundering in to a prepared position for the purposes of training Cubby. He's the tanks and infantry side, I'll be manning some Mechs that are about to have a bad day.
Rules +tactics training.

I'd offer to bus you over, but I'll likely head to the game right after work...

Thanks to all!  It was fun, although next time I won't try to a UFC fight with an Assault Mech.

Since I had to depart before the end, what was the final outcome?

We'll try to make sure you have a better outcome next time...!

Since I had to depart before the end, what was the final outcome?

Your team cleared enough artillery to let a fighter poke through, which bombed the other artillery position out of existence. Then they fled by blowing a hole in the wall with extensive weapons fire and an ostsol charged through to complete the breach.
A few losses were taken on the way out. The Sentinel lost both legs. The Ostsol took a few large lasers and a lot of LRMs to the back and didnt make it. And the Crockett proved too slow to escape.
Still, 5 'Mechs made it out, which fell right in the 50-75% losses estimate.

The next target is the factory itself! Should be a lot easier now that the artillery won't be available to support the defenders. Numerous intact guns are still at the base, but no one left alive knows how to use them...

I was there for the successful bombing run; but not the exit stage right.

Glorious.  I hope to join again for the 2nd and 3rd phases.  We shall see.

One thing I was impressed by was the players coming up with a solution to a serious problem late in the game. With the artillery down, they needed to leave- but most of their force had been involved in the scrum on the far side of the base, and the survivors had some issues. They couldn't get out the gate- with the Banshee down (and never more than a 'while it's over here...' issue anyway), the survivors would need to walk right through some of the toughest Mechs in the RWR force- the Hammerhands, the Rampage, the Battleaxe, and still be getting pummeled by the LRMs from the Stalker and Longbow... AND still be hounded by the chasing elements from the main scrum. That was a surefire recipe for failure- no way it would have worked out. By shooting a big hole in the wall and running through it, several units escaped that otherwise wouldn't have had a prayer. (As it was, the Shogun was just too slow to escape, and I think something else didn't get out? Not sure on that)

But it was a solid, unexpectedly bold move, and I was pleased to see it.

Just the legless sentinel, and the Ostsol that got backshot in to oblivion.

THAT'S the one, my brain kept saying it was the Phoenix Hawk and I knew that wasn't right.
