What the heck is this?!?!?
« on: 30 August 2011, 21:24:32 »
Ok, I have looked at this cover a hundred times, and its a great cover.... HOWEVER, I have NO idea what is going on here, and every time I look at it I think its one soldier tickling the other, perhaps its the wacky in me, but can someone shed light on what was *supposed* to be going on here?

At first I thought it was soldier throwing another against the tank in a scuffle but looking at you close up Syntax, you can see the first solder leaning down is holding something like a pen in his right hand while looking at the others stomach.

I'll have to agree with the Greatsarcasmo and say it's a Medic scoping a injured comrade.

That's what I thought it was when I first saw it.

Ok I do see somethin there, but its a very passive area.  People are welding, nothing anywhere near combat, so wounded?  No blood, but that could be to avoid offending.

Maybe he's helping him with a stuck vest, or just tightened it too tight?  Maybe he was pulling out a cathator (sp?) from combat?

Still looks a bit like a giggle to me tho :)  Who made the art, perhaps they have know for sure.

You are correct that the context is a little odd for a full-on medical emergency.  But that's what you get when you hire frails.  They just break down sometimes.

It's cover art, you have bloodless injury and a medic for the same reason you have three soldiers in the center of the hanger with their weapon drawn trying to look cool; the artist was simple trying to fit in every possible character roles as best as he could. Yeah, it would have made more sense if the injured dude was laying on the ground IMO but that's the artists choice.

The artist could see into the future? That's impressive.  :D

Beat me to it.

How else do you explain all those character portraits with the tats?  :D

Well, the guy being tickled to death is a Steiner, he's wearing the armored vehicle crew uniform from page 109 in the original Steiner Handbook. Plus he's leaning on a tank heh. Haven't ID'ed the tickler yet. Maybe its Hogarth?

Bidding process is a bitch. And they thought "extreme tickle monster" was below the cutdown!
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

"House Davion, soon after its inception, established itself as a force for freedom in the Inner Sphere. Again, though, this is a relative term. House Davion does not support the Communist, hippie, let’s-all-take-care-of-each-other kind of freedom. No. They have always worked more along the lines of the we-will-occasionally-need-to-invade-your-nation-because-you-don’t-strike-us-as-freedom-loving-enough kind of freedom. To their credit, House Davion leaders occasionally mention the concept of “freedom” as a positive thing, which puts them a ways ahead of peer, say, House Liao and House Kurita" -Battlerun- Best Ever

First time I saw this cover, I asked Peter Smith the same question "Why is that dude tickling that other dude?  Are AFFS military personnel all that creepy close to one another?"
