Most of my dislike stems from its placement in Total War, as opposed to StratOps. Had it been placed in a more advanced rulebook instead of presented as an option for standard tournament play I'd probably be more favorably inclined toward it, because I'd never see players on the forum talking as if it's the default. It's very bulky to play(yes, even more so than the systems that require you to set aside table space for a Low Altitude Map or Radar Map), and makes it needlessly difficult to line up ground attacks while keeping your fighter on the map. The wording is often confusing as to when you can make a facing change, among other things. There's more, but it doesn't come to mind quickly because it's been a very long time since I stopped using it, and never looked back.
I cannot recommend adapting it wholesale to Alpha Strike, but if you really want to, more power to you.
