Could the 3 cores really be a core and two batteries?  That would allow the ship to jump further.  Or if the SLDF had superjump capability could allow for even longer super jumps.
you can only mount one LF battery, and the energy storage batteries seen on recharge stations can only be equipped on stations and mass 100K tons each, which make it pretty much impossible to fit onto a jumpship and even a compact core ship would require a battleship sized vessel just to mount one.

Under current rules you can only mount one LF battery on your (single) KF jump core. It would violate different rules, but still be illegal under current construction rules.

I know it would be illegal. Just thought it might be more workable than multiple cores. Besides the Star League managed to do some pretty impossible things.
