(Answered) CO - Infantry Ammo Cost and Tonnage
« on: 07 September 2019, 21:26:44 »
Hi, when you're designing a merc unit, and you get to the section where you're determining the operating cost of the unit (page 24 of Combat Ops), there's some question as to how exactly you determine the ammo cost and tonnage.

Under the Ammunition section, it states

"The peacetime consumption of ammunition by ammunition-using units in the Force is one-quarter of the vehicle or infantry force's ammunition capacity. This represents ammunition spent to maintain the skills of the Force. Divide a unit's ammunition tonnage and cost of ammunition by 4 to get the monthly peacetime expenditure."

Later in that section it states

"Conventional infantry should refer to the rules for ammo costs and weights and are assumed to carry five reloads for their weapons as a standard combat load."

It then goes on to state that infantry armed with laser weapons that are stationed with fission or fusion-powered vehicles can divide their cost by 10.

However on page 25 in the example (final paragraph), we have

"Consulting the power pack entries, Arnold figures the Standard Military Pack would apply, and each infantryman should carry 5 of those heavy packs. Doubling that consumption per month to represent training, Arnold notes that consumption is 400 CB and 40kg per trooper."

So on page 25, we have them dividing their regular combat load (5 power packs, clips, etc) by 4, while the example on the next page has you doubling their combat load, both with the stated goal of training.

So what's the actual rule?

The one presented in the example. I'll submit that to errata.

Thanks for the quick response. I did notice however in your errata post you didn't seem to make mention of the doubling of the ammo for training purposes, which is in the example. Should there be further errata to include the doubling from the example in the rule section?

And hopefully final question.

pg 24 and your errata post states that if the infantry with non-plasma energy weapons are stationed with vehicles where they can recharge their power packs "then the ammunition cost is divided by 10..."

Does cost in this case apply to the tonnage as well as the actual cost? The section on page 24 just says "cost" while the example on 25 has it applying to the tonnage as well.

Fixed. I added "and weight", too.
