AS:Commander's Edition, No love? (Sad)
« on: 15 August 2019, 20:51:26 »
While I can play Alpha Strike as Clan or Spheroid, I can't use Capellan Augmented forces or clan Society ones because there aren't any formations that I can legally play with.

Unless I missed something somewhere, I'm out of fun!

Also how does a player run Marian Hegemony forces? Mechwise I can run it as a Star, but vehicles too? Is there a different setup?

Would I be able to run a Comstar / WoB formation as a Capellan Aug one?

Since an Un of Vehicles equals 7 units in one, what would you suggest?

Check the Combat Manuals: Lite in the Fan Articles forum. They will address your needs in most cases, and are semi-official.

I also remember discussing this with Herb, re WoB/C* Level IIs. 'Mechs and vehicles can mix easily. I'd exempt the "must have pairs of vehicles" for Level IIs. BA/infantry get grandfathered in with an idea I called "carriers". The carrier is what carries the infantry/BA into battle. You sub the carrier's movement stats, when needed, when building formations.

EG a if you want to have Purifiers in a Recon level II, put them in a Heavy Hover APC. Suddenly, the  Purifiers move 10"+.

If the carrier has 1/0*/0 or less damage, then it doesn't count as a "unit" towards unit counts. So Purifiers in an APC are "1" unit. Purifiers in a Bolla are "2" units.

I considered allowing other properties to be carried over - eg. SR or MR damage, or armour. But that makes things a little too easy. You may also want to consider allowing the BA's "Type" to overrule the requirements applying to its stats - so a "Juggernaut" BA can be part of an Assault Level II, even if it doesn't have minimum 5 armour.

For the Marians, vehicles are the only issue - I'd change "must be pairs" to "must be at least pairs". So 2 and 3 is legit, 5 the same is legit, 2 and 2 and 1 isn't.

And round to nearest. 75% of 6 is 5, 75% of 5 is 4.

All seemed reasonable enough. But house rule whatever you're comfortable with.

Just like to add I concur with worktroll.
The number of units and unit type restrictions are mostly to fit fluff for various organizations.  House rule away for organizations we haven’t been able to cover yet.
As long as it has three+ units, and you are trying to fit the organization of the faction/group you are playing as.

So 2+2+3 would be allowed for the Society?

For a tank Un? I'd just go with 7, and play it like an overcrowded Level II, or understrength 10-tank Star. For protos, a nine-Proto Trey is almost exactly like a Clan tank Star, so there you go. For a Sept, just use the lead Un as its own thing.

Understood... do I have to use a full Point of tank in a formation or will this break formation?

Also a Un of Infantry equals full 3 Points or a Short Star! ( 60 - 75 ) Depending on which mode I use.

I would say that any formation type that requires matched pairs for vees to use is simply unavailable to Society forces. It's an organization scheme developed by people with little to no tactical experience. It should surprise no one that the combat formation they developed would have a glaring weakness or two.

the battle lance / star / level ii / conga line is the only one that requires pairs iirc
