Mid-4th SW and Zero Contracts available

Mid-4th SW and Zero Contracts available.  Boo.

I feel like most mercenary units should be **drowning** in contract offers during the 4th SW.

(Yes, I know I can GM-Generate, but that always feels a bit cheesy to me)

Contract offers depend on a lot of different dice rolls, including contract search radius, faction (I’m assuming Merc from your post), and reputation (unit rating). If you have a low unit rating you’ll find your services aren’t in much demand.

Edit: I should also add that it is a dice roll, so it’s entirely possible to go a couple months without a contract. Consider going to Galatea (which I believe is still a hiring hub during the 4SW). Or Outreach, if that has been established already. As these are hiring hubs you’ll have a better chance of being offered a contract.

Merc, B (115) rating.
Our Contract Search Radius is 150 LY, but we are close to Terra, so all 5 Great Houses have territory within that radius.

IIRC, Outreach isn't a thing until sometime shortly after the 4th SW.

Being in a system with a Hiring Hall makes a huge difference in generating contracts.  Just being in the Terran Corridor/Sarna March region in easy jumping distance of multiple realms isn't going to give lots of contracts as that's not how the lore works/system is built - people looking to do the hiring aren't looking at whatever random unit is passing through a given system, they're in offices on Galatea, Outreach (starting around 3032 or so), Solaris VII, and some of the other systems (these are all highlighted on the map).  MekHQ doesn't really have the concept of a separate 'home base' where a unit would have administrative offices regardless of where the combat portion is located, so it assumes everything packs up and goes with you.  So getting contracts on the regular usually requires returning to one of those Hiring Hall systems.

As it looks like you're working with the older Field Manual: Mercenaries (Revised) rating system, I would recommend reading the contract generation system from that book to get an idea of how the base contracts are generated. The MekHQ contract generation system while using that rating system is basically lifted straight from that.
Think about it.  It's what we do.
