Background
The eight Monsoon battleship built by the Terran Hegemony SLS Ukraine served admirably throughout the Age of War and won the Martial Olympiad in 2652. It mostly saw service in the Outworlds Alliance and was one of the participants of Amos Forlough's atrocities against the Alliance. The McKenna class took its place in the battle line and were deployed against the more militant Taurians and their vast fleet.
When the Monsoon class was retired it was one of the seven Monsoon Battleships sold to the Rim Worlds Republic Navy, renamed RWS Painkiller, and upgraded on orders by Tadeo Amaris. It engaged the Lyran Commonwealth on a several occasions but was rarely deployed out of the Republic. During the Amaris Crisis it launched bombardment attacks on no less than four SLDF Castles Brian in the Terran Hegemony during the Amaris Crisis. As the Crisis continued however a junior officer Conrad Knox launched a mutiny against the Captain and other executives spacing them for war crimes.
Captain Knox launched attacks on the rest of the Republican Battlegroup taking advantage of the surprise attack to cripple three Lola II destroyers opening a salient for the SLDF to attack. Captain Knox's ship led assaults on Caspar SDS systems above Sirius, Procyon, and Rigil Kentares but the battleship was heavily damaged in the process. Damaged as it was it missed out on the actual invasion of Terra its holds instead supporting SLDF elements by guarding jumpships. Painkiller and another captured RWRN Monsoon Linsenmayer joined the Exodus Fleet accommodating belters and other space-bound colonists.
Both were mothballed; the Painkiller around Circe, Linsenmeyer around Babylon prior to the Second Exodus and mostly stripped of useful materials. The Linsenmayer was lost during the Pentagon Civil War as it was not as damaged as the Painkiller. When Admiral Stephen McKenna launched his campaign against the Spacers they were attempting to reactivate Painkiller but had to flee when the Snow Ravens moved to intercept. Ultimately the spacers were hunted down by Cloud Cobra SaKhan Rafe Kardaan who believed they were truly defeated. All were forcibly reincorporated into the Clans with a large number joining Mongoose. Star Captain Sava Knox (genemother to Alanah Knox, last SaKhan of Mongoose) led the task force that took control of the Circe Naval Cache and was a participant in SABLE SUN.
The Mongooses defended it vigorously while using it to make her clan a potent naval power. Ultimately when the Mongooses were Absorbed by the Smoke Jaguars the Painkiller was joined by other heavily damaged warships still in Mongoose colors. In 3060 on the eve of the Great Refusal former Mongoose spacers from the Newgrange SLS Shanghai along with a group of rogue Fire Mandrills salvaged it and began to bring the infamous ship back to life. During the Wars of Sundering it repelled Snake Alliance warships and ensured the Lang Zhenzu system's independence and safety. Post Wars of Sundering it is the largest Clan Warship still in operation serving the new Pentagon Alliance but like most other warships has been laid up in the yard for repairs most of the time.
