The Land Raider Challenge!
« on: 10 October 2019, 03:09:25 »
Okay, so I have four Epic scale W40K Land Raiders. Here's one with some BT minis for scale.

Now technically this is a Land Raider II, or Land Raider Exelsior (there's some canon Unseen-ishness in the W40K world too ;) ). It would normally have a twin-linked lascannon in a sponson on each side, but BT doesn't reward sponsons well.,

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to identify a canon design for which I could kitbash the weaponry. If you think it looks like a Zukhov, then make it the WoB Zukhov variant. There's room for Reseeing armour as well as 'Mechs! Tell me why you think this would be good as the basis of an alternative chassis X, and why.

Open to the floor!

Note: this is the Minis forum. Please don't post custom designs here. The request is for identified canon versions of existing armour.

Thanks,

Kind of has the look of the Clan's Heimdall tank.

Maybe the Hachiman as well.

If the sponsons were there, I'd say it would make a perfect Ignis, if a tad big.

Hmmm...a beefy brick with no turret and few visible guns...dude! That's a Magi!

Not combat armour, but for some reason the boxy shape and loading doors make me think of a Paramour Mobile Repair vehicle.

Weaponry would be easy as you just need to make a couple machine guns and add something that looks like a hoist.

Put a turret on and some track guards and you have a Schildkröte.

The WoB Magi with added Infantry bay is a perfect idea.

I'd also nominate any of the tracked APCs, as well as the Badger or Chaparral.

Bit big ... the WoB Magi USCV has possibilities. The Schildkrote is a medium, and this scales with heavy/assaults.

Think he's talking about the mini being a bit big to represent a 20-tonner.

I think a Heavy Tracked APC is pretty apt. Rather than worry about the size, it IS designed like a 100 year old tank. (Cripes WWI ended more than 100 years ago...)

It is a low-tech APC. Big, Bulky, not all that capable. Perfect.

Other option would be to put a turret on it. If you have the sponsons, you could put them on top. Then you have a whole lot of options. Just one would make it a functional Goblin replacement.

Don't the Clans have something designed to transport Toads? I guess since they just clamp on to Omni-mechs, perhaps not.

You could always make it a Jacob's Juggernaut . . . put a Blackjack torso on the chassis.

Yep I hear it all of the time... I am sorry, but I don't want to play a Battletech game with tanks that are out of scale...

Really? Scale as the reason to not use it as a heavy tracked APC? Seriously?

Ship them to me if that really the case for not using them...

I happily use Epic Rhinos as heavy APCs. These look bigger - heavy/assault size - with comparison both to the Rhinos, and to other BT minis.

I'll use them - but not as heavy APCs.

Prowler? Carries infantry (in some variants) Should be easy enough to make a few weapons to attach to the top for a turret. The turret of the Prowler is pretty bad. It would be blocked from traversing even 180% let alone 360.

Heavy tracked APC

Add some styrene pieces to the sides as armor plates
Small turret at top for an infantry support capability
Track guards
Maybe base it with a few Davion infantry
Battletech collector/player since 1987

I'm on the Heavy Tracked APC variant as well.  While it doesn't match the art, you could pretty easily call it an old Age of War era model.  It certainly looks big enough to hold a full platoon of foot infantry.

Could also paint it blue and white or similar police colors, add some siren-looking things on top, and call it a Support Vehicle like a Cellco Ranger/Chi-Ha/Raptor RRV/Urban Enforcer intended for police work, with a localized track arrangement intended for climbing things with steeper approach angles.
