(Answered) SHOULDER CRITICAL and Other Arm Criticals
« on: 19 March 2024, 10:10:53 »
Pg 49 BMM/Pg 128 Total Warfare

The rules for a SHOULDER CRITICAL states:

Quote
+4 to all weapons firing from that arm (overrides all other
weapons fire modifiers from critical hits to that arm).

I'm just looking for a little clarification. Is this similar to a HIP critical, i.e. If an Upper Arm Actuator is hit in round 3, and then in Round 4 the Shoulder is hit the Shoulder crit overrides the Upper Arm. But in Round 5 if the Lower Arm actuator is hit, is the Lower Arm ignored outright (for penalties), or will it add to the Shoulder Penalty?

If the Shoulder Critical overrides all other actuator penalties regardless of when they occur, perhaps the wording could be changed in the rules to something along the lines of:

Quote
+4 to all weapons firing from that arm (overrides all other
weapons fire modifiers from critical hits to that arm regardless when they occur).

They are not the same. Later criticals on an arm with a shoulder hit will suffer additional penalties

Technically that is the same as how Hips work ;)

HIP (Page 48, HIP):

Quote
After a hip critical hit, ignore any other critical hit modifiers
from previous turns due to damage on that leg (even if this actually
reduces the PSR penalty provided by the leg). However, other critical
hits applied to that leg on this turn or later still apply.

Round 2; Foot Actuator
Round 3: Hip - Cancels Foot
Round 4: Upper Leg adds to Hip

So are you saying then a Shoulder is dentical in how penalites are applied.

I.E.:

OPTION A:

Round 2; Lower Arm Actuator (+1 Penalty to Hit)
Round 3: Shoulder - Cancels Lower Arm (+4 penalty to hit)
Round 4: Upper Arm adds to Shoulder (+5 total, +4 from Shoulder, +1 From Upper, Lower Arm Ignored)

or

OPTION B:

Round 2; Lower Arm Actuator (+1 Penalty to Hit)
Round 3: Shoulder - Cancels Lower Arm (+4 penalty to hit)
Round 4: Upper Arm does not to Shoulder (+4 from Shoulder, Upper and Lower arm ignored)

Blegh. Apologies I got lost

A shoulder crit sets the to-hit penalty for weapons in that arm at +4. Both previous and potential future crits to that arm’s upper and lower actuators are ignored.

No worries, thanx Sartis. Hopefully they can add a bit of text to the rules to clarify.
