The Aithon is one of those silly over the top units. Unfortunately it has several flaws, like slow speed, too much mass spent on pulse lasers, and arguably excessive mass.
This Siege Transport is basically a more economical version for Spheroids (i forgot the original was a Clan vehicle). Lighter, faster, with similar capabilities. Reactive armor protects the thing from artillery or its own scattered shots. Can transport two squads of BA as it is.
Lack of armored motive system might be an issue, then again this is somewhat faster.
