I will also chime in and say that this Spoltlight On entry is great!

It covers multiple eras, multiple rule systems (Total Warfare, Alpha Strike, BattleForce, etc), provides a lot of story hooks with heros and villains...heck even gives us Uniform and Rank insignia.

Any gamemaster could build several campaigns from this item.

I am definitely looking forward to more of them!  Thanks!

Crescent Hawks Thoughts:
The Good: Value; For what I paid, I will be enjoyed far longer than the gross cup of coffee I bought for the same price yesterday. Lots of Alpha Strike material. Good fiction. A character named Romulus.
The (less good) Bad: No art. I get it, epublications are low budget products. A portrait of one of the Youngbloods would have been nice. I would have traded more unit fiction for one of the missions. For products like these, it is the fluff I am looking for to help figure out how to use these people. Missions are less usefull in that regard.

I will buy another.

I'd love to fill these with art. But every 2 B&W portraits or 1 B&W mech illo adds $1 to the price, which drives it outside the scope of the line. Secondly, art heavily a drags down production time and part of the goal here is to reproduce cool, light books to add to the universe while not bogging down production on this line or competing for resources on larger projects. Lastly, consistency—we want to make sure the content (and price) on these is fairly consistent, though in the future we may see Brent, myself or some of the writers contribute "bonus" content in the way of art, fluff or record sheets/cards/data (without impacting price or production time). Time will tell.

I realize that you know this "more or less," but just wanted to be transparent.

Now, to immediately do a 180 on everything I just said, in two weeks we'll be releasing a special bonus sized Touring the Stars for a slight markup, with double to triple the content. More on that later—it should be a ton of fun. :)

Sounds interesting! Any hints about this project, like the guessing game you guys did with Spotlights On?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's going to be a pretty popular Touring the Stars.

Nice job on the spotlight! Adrian I know you don't have all the answers but have you heard any forward movement on the next novel? A simple yes or no will suffice. Thanx!

Here's hoping :)

Is his email working? I haven't heard a peep out of him in a month or so.

Back on topic, I haven't picked up the first Spotlight yet, but I will be doing so this week. It sounds like it's right up my alley! Shame about the art, as iconic visuals are such a memorable piece of this property, but I understand not everything needs to cost a bunch of money.

Oh, and I'm ready for CM: Davion now. I think gazing dreamily at the cover of that one will keep me busy for a while.

Adrian,
Your transparency is appreciated and I'll drop that feedback about art in future similarly priced publications from future comments. It doesn't really serve a purpose if it is asking for something the product just isn't.
That said, I'll buy another and look forward to the upcoming release as well as future hard copy releases.

Just want to say that the Spotlight was amazing. It bought back some fantastic memories. Thank you all so very much! I can't think what was my favourite part of it (There were a lot to chose from) but the "Citadel Challenge" was a good one.

Adrian,
I love this approach with the spot light series, Great Job! So my next question is could we get some House Marik love for the next one? Also when will the master unit list be updated with the new classic mech images?
I may have a low amount of posts but I have a PHD in Battletech and mechs older then most people on this board!

So art jacks up price and time.. so what about a painted mini? I can see this being something to avoid for most units, but those like the Crescent Hawks which has little to no history... Might be worth a poll to see if there is enough interest in a single illo once Spotlight On has a decent following. Either way, can't wait for the next one and now the next TtS.

And when will we see some art for the next new classic design?

They'd still have to get the artwork: Stage the mini, photograph it, make corrections based on comments, re-photograph it, etc.

I'd rather have no art and a product that doesn't distract from the other projects.

Don't forget that someone has to paint the mini (CSO volunteers probably). They appear to be painting a lot already.

Haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, but does the Crescent Hawks book address the LAM?
